Has anyone actually read the book and seen the film? Which is better or is this a situation where both are so similiar it's hard to tell as is the case with Dances with Wolves?

Well, the movie lived up to my expectations. ****ing glorious.

Glad to hear it. Any more details you feel like sharing? tia

really good movie, not quite as great as i expected. but i likely went in with too high expectations, ha ha.

Having read Ebert's review, he's right on the money. For me, the movie was at most a 7.5/10

- Hailee Steinfeld's performance was a knockout. Hell of a find by the Coen Brothers, and a hell of a big-screen debut. The critics were not joking. The girl look, talked, and acted like she just stepped out of a time machine.

- Jeff Bridges looked like he had a blast with the role, finding little physical comedy moments. My brother was amused by the fact that he could barely understand some of Bridges' lines (he talks with a rasp and a slight slur), but I didn't have any issue. Cogburn was funny, sympathetic at times, and overall oozed badassery.

- Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Barry Pepper were practically non-recognizable: Damon from a visual perspective, Brolin in his voice, and Barry Pepper all around.

- The score was great. An absolute shame the Academy disqualified it.

- The cinematography will speak for itself. Trust me.

- Don't let the rating fool you. There is quite a bit of graphic imagery in this film. In fact, I'm actually a bit surprised that it got the PG-13, but I'll let you guys be the judge.

Overall, I found myself genuinely surprised that this was a Coen Brothers film. It's nothing like what they've done before. Despite some graphic images, it was an overall sentimental film with a straightforward narrative and a happy ending (for the most part). But I am happy to say that the Coen Brothers pull it off like it was second-nature to them. I certainly would not have expected the makers of No Country for Old Men to deliver something like this. The film had me hooked the entire time, and it left me wanting to see it again.

I'd still rank No Country for Old Men above this, but I honest-to-God can't fathom how anybody would hate this movie.

i just read his review too. he does nail it. i was expecting this to more of a coen brothers western, rather than a straight western. though, a good one none the less. but lesser than what i think it could have been.

People expect Coen 1 and Coen 2 to always have that weird indie vibe with their films, but they're more versatile than you thnk. I'd actually want them to do a comic flick one day, but can't pinpoint what characters they would be best at.

How can people say this isn't a Coen Bros. film? This feels like the love child of Raising Arizona and No Country for Old Men. Loved it.

My only problem is that the end of the quest is almost too realistic. You almost feel like this film could be another 30 minutes.

i i was expecting this to more of a coen brothers western, rather than a straight western.

Heh heh. Yeah I think that sums up my feelings as well. Though there were some "Coen moments" in there.

Good flick.

Wow...I loved this movie...alot less chaotic then I thought itd be...but very amazing none the less
The acting all around was perfect.
8.5/10

Great film, it is in some ways a departure to the Cohen bros. normal style, but I think that is what they wanted. I think my favorite part has to be Bridges, again another great character he has portrayed. Not their best, but still a solid great film.

9.0/10

Just saw it this afternoon. Oh my God, this is the closest thing to a perfect film that I've seen in all of 2010.

i cannot wait to see this, i was unable to see this tonight. But tomorrow...OH BABY!

I loved this film. Jeff Bridges knocked it out of the park.

Maybe it's my Western bias but damn I loved this movie. It puts a smile on my face just remembering it.

Hailee Steinfield did an amazing job and Jeff Bridges was awesome.

The entire scene with her and that horse merchant was hilarious. At some points i was confused trying to figure out who agreed to what and who owned what.lol

And she walks out with the saddle.
