Comedy Community - Part 4

His duck comic strip always made me LOL.

"What the hell?"

I agree too. I only mentioned Glover because I found Chase to be a weak link in the cast. Banks as Hickey was far better.

People give Pierce such a hard time because of Harmon's difficulty with Chase. They forget two things:

1) Harmon was a terrible showrunner. Great writer. Terrible showrunner who bought into his own hype (much like Chase...the two probably clashed because they are so similar).

2) Season one and early season two Pierce had some of the best lines in the show's history ("He can't be gay! He has a mustache!"). Pierce only stopped being funny when Harmon and Chase started clashing and as a result, Harmon seemed to write Pierce as a sociopathic nut job (presumably a reflection of his feelings on Chase).

So yeah, I'll take Pierce over Mike any day.

From the stories I have heard in the past about Chevy Chase, he might well be a sociopathic nut job. At the very least he's a narcisstic, egotistical nut job.

His personality was also important to the group dynamic. They needed someone to "hate" to vent all those feelings towards. Now there's Hickey who isn't a total ******* but he's still the grumpy old fart that can fill the same position.

Yeah, once I started hearing stories about Chase's behavior in... well pretty much everything it put me off on the guy quick.

Chase may very well be a dick, but he is a funny dick and it doesn't change the fact that Pierce was a funny character.

Ehhh, he was my least favorite out of the group.

I didn't even care when they got rid of him.

Pierce was great in S1, but started going downhill fast afterwards. He had some great moments throughout S2, even a few in S3, but I could care less they got rid of him in the end.

Pierce did start out as okay but by the time he ended his run he wasn't even the lovable kind of hated character. He went from being faux mean with a good core to just genuinely mean with no redeemable qualities.

That' show I feel. He was okay in season 1, but gradually got worse. Maybe it was because Harmon didn't like Chase, but it doesn't change that Pierce sucked for the most part.

‘Community’ Revived To Air On Yahoo In Fall

Community has done it, beating the odds and overcoming a cancellation to score a sixth-season order. After a couple of weeks of negotiations, series producer Sony Pictures TV has closed a deal with Yahoo for 13 new episodes to air this fall on Yahoo Screen. Talks went down to the wire as the options on the cast were set to expire today. Ever since NBC canceled Community last month, there had been interest from multiple outlets in continuing the cult comedy. I hear the list of possible suitors also included rebranded cable network Esquire; streaming service Hulu, which already has off-network rights to the series; and the Sony-owned Crackle.

Dan Harmon created Community and is returning as executive producer with Russ Krasnoff, Gary Foster and Chris McKenna. “I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” Harmon said in the announcement of the deal. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

With its devoted following by a core group of passionate fans, Community is the type of show digital platforms crave. Complicating the series’ options was the fact that it has a digital syndication deal in place with Hulu, in addition to a cable off-network pact with Comedy Central.

“The fans spoke and we listened. Thanks to Yahoo, and the amazing team that makes Community great, we’ve avoided the Darkest Timeline yet again and plan to deliver a fantastic season,” said Zack Van Amburg, president of programming and production at SPT. Adds Jamie Erlicht, president of programming and production: “You can’t get to six seasons and a movie without a 6th season. Yahoo is the perfect home for the continuation of this journey.”

Sony TV’s efforts to revive Community had the blessing of Harmon, who confessed on his blog that he had warmed to the possibility of continuing the show elsewhere, changing his stance on finding a new home from “eh” when Sony TV called him with the news of the series’ cancellation by NBC to “sure, let’s talk” two days later. Said Harmon, “I’m not going to be the guy that re-cancels cancelled Community.”

The deal for Community extends Sony TV’s strong track record in bringing back cancelled series. The studio previously brokered a deal to move acclaimed drama Damages to DirecTV after it was cancelled by FX, and found a way to bring back on their original networks cancelled series Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime and Unforgettable on CBS. All three series have gone to air multiple seasons post-cancellation.

Good for them. I personally think the series hasnt been that that good since season 1/some of season 2, but I like seeing shows that are well liked get revived

i guess I should have looked for a thread

Thats cool. I hope they bring troy back. Season 5 was much better than 4, but it lacked Troy.

The show in seasons 1-3 was great. Didnt like how Pierce was a racial joke piece, how abed's gf was there but she wasnt there, and how they had to tie the more fantastical elements of the show to someone being mentally ill or on some heavy medication. Also, the darkest timeline storyline had a lot of promise but it fell flat in the end because the execution wasnt epic as it could have been.

Im glad the show is back and i look forward to it.

I really hope Brie Larson is brought on as a regular...

Meh. On one hand, I'm glad because the "Six Seasons and a movie" joke is actually a movie away from being realized. Mostly, I'm indifferent because this show has been truly great since Season 2. Season 3, the show was too in love with itself, Season 4 was notoriously horrible, and Season 5 was decent, but also a sign that the series had peaked long ago.

I didn't expect this at all. I think it's great but at the same time Yahoo? I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Why are these people still in a community college with 6 seasons?
