So which movies might over shadow GR?

I think that Superman is going to come out around the same time, but GR is in a league of his own.

Superman comes out a few months earlier but still could take a few away from GR.

Here's what it looks like so far. This comes from www.comingsoon.net. I'm sure you're all familiar with it.

June 9
- Cars

June 16
- Eragon

June 23
- Charlotte's Web
- Click

June 30
- Superman Returns

---

July 7
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

July 14
- Talladega Nights

July 21
- Lady in the Water
- Monster House

July 28
- Garfield 2
- Miami Vice

--

August 4
- Ghost Rider

--

September 29
- Open Season

September TBA
- Untitled Douglas McGrath (limited)

--

October 20
- The Grudge 2

October TBA
- The Painted Veil

If Pirates does come out on July 7 and is still out around August it could give GR a run for its money. It has a pretty big fan base. But by then I guess we'll know if it suffers from Disney-sequel-syndrome ;).

POTC could be a problem but sequals made by Disney tend to fail like you said.

Even if it's crap, lots of people will (obviously) see it when it comes out; fans of the previous movie, and the Johnny, Orlando and Keira fans. If it does majorly suck though (which I hope it doesn't) it shouldn't be a problem for GR.

Their almost a month apart, so it shouldn't be a huge problem. Most or all of the fans would have gone to see it by the time GR comes out. Unless it's an absolutly brilliant movie or something.

Ghost Rider is in good standing as of now.

hmm pirates of the carribean 2!!!!! i didn't know they were making that , but could this also be bad for ghost rider with the talking skulls?

Well, the first film came out in July, and was still in the top 5 in September.

Hopefully, Ghost Rider will blow those wanna be skull heads out of the water. It will mostly depend upon what kind of movie the rest of the population out side these threads wants, or if they are burnt out of the comic book movies.

GR has been in quite a few comics. He has teamed up with other better known supers as well. Most people will be able to tell of the comic book origins of this movie though.

yeah but not everyone reads comics so they dont know about all that stuff its jsut another movie to them

They will have a big surprise when they go to see the movie, won't they?:ghost: ;)

The image of the character is going to sell it though. That's the beauty of the whole thing. Even those who do not know who the character is will be attracted by how he (and the movie as a whole) looks.

Who wouldn't think a guy with a flaming skull on a bike that sweet could not bring in major crowds just to find out more about him?

I don't think we are. We're just discussin'.

Update to the above list:

--

August 4
- Ghost Rider

August 11
- Little Man

--

Plus these movies have not been dated yet but are slated for Summer 2006

TBA
- Behind the Mask
- Indiana Jones 4
- Mission: Impossible 3
- Spy-Hunter

GR is gonna appeal to the masses in a totally different way than something like Superman or Pirates 2 will. It's gonna appeal to the comic book afficiandos, motorcycle enthusiasts and the kind of people who enjoy edgier, darker fliks like Underworld.

Plus, don't underestimate Nicholas Cages' drawing power.

I expect Ghost Rider will at the very least hold it's own, even against Pirates 2.

I agree. Ghost Rider will hold his own or blast the other films out of the water.

What about X-Men 3 also, depending on when that comes out, its slated for May now but with production not starting till 1st August, that may be delayed, what if this was to happen and it was delayed until the end of July say.

Marvel wouldn't release two of their moves that close. If X-Men 3 is delayed, it will be until X-mas time, I suspect... which is what I think is going to happen anyway.

I think you guys are definitely overrating Ghost Rider as some sort of force to be reckoned with at the Box Office. That said, its already cemented its August release date where there doesn't seem to be too much else around there at the moment. If there's a late July release with something of the caliber of say, The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, it might give Ghost Rider some trouble. By the time Ghost Rider comes out, Pirates will have already made probably over half of its final domestic gross already, so you guys shouldn't be worried about that either.
