Ghost Rider vs GR: Spirit of Vengeance

RTD basically IS a movie in comic-book form. They should have adapted that and got decent directors to do it as well.

I agree, hopefull the third Ghost Rider film draws it's premise and inspiration from the Road To Damnation story.

^If we get a third movie, bad reviews could really effect this, its only on 7% on RT at the moment.

Wow thats bad!

Anyway, thing with Road to Damnation is, I think if they wanted to do it true to the book it'd be a pretty big budget. Some of the visuals, by Clayton Crain, are amazing. Like the opening to the book where Blaze is getting chased through hell by an army these demons and undead. The whole book has shots like that. Visuals that'd cost a lot of money.

Man that would be awesome though.

It's FAR too early to put any stock into it's RT scores, yet posters still do it everytime a film comes out instead of simply waiting until the opening weekend is over.

If the film is at 7% after the weekend is over, that's when it would become a big deal.

It's Ghost Rider. We as Marvelites know what to expect. The average moviegoer will see it because it's a big budget action flick with a PG-13 rating. It'll do fine.

Ghost rider 2 was made so that FOX doesnt lose the rights. so yes there will be a third GR movie. the question is if it will be a sequel with Cage.

rights, rights and rights. thats the only reason why the first Fantastic Four movie was mad.e thats the only reason why FF will be rebooted. and thats why GR was made

I wouldnt say its too early, its now upto 13% but with 21 bad reviews I can only see more poring in. If it has that many bad reviews lots of good ones arent going to suddenly come out.

GR is with Sony Dark b, and considering they have Spiderman I honestly dont see why keeping GR is so important to them.

then replace FOX with Sony in my post. of course rights are important. :)

^I imagine they are for movies that are guaranteed to make big bucks but GR is anything but.

No way Sony will do a third. Disney/Marvel can have the rights back and see if they care to try something.

Ghost Rider = 3/10
Ghost Rider SOV = 5.5/10

^If this movie makes $150 million domestic, unlikely I know, but if it did, Sony WILL make another movie. Its all about the money.

I just discovered that Scott Gimple, creator of the Fillmore animated series back in the day, co-wrote this with Goyer. I have to go see it now.

They didn't use the entirety of that script. There were no french monks, no crazy Cage moments, some scenes were from part 1 (cop using radar on GR, and prison scene), and it had a hell of a lot more violence. There was also the idea that Blaze could only transform with a flip of a coin.

I thought that while both movies are not good, SOV was at least entertaining while being bad. The first GR was just stupid. This was stupid and funny at same time, so I'd rather see this one again.

This one mops the floor with the first, IMO. It's decent and much more violent. It was worth matinee price.

This one was more tongue in cheek, and GR was definitely scarier this time around. Just more of a force of nature type of thing. He was basically a villain protagonist in a sense, taking out whoever was in his line of sight since every person technically has sinned in the past.

I will definitely be buying this on day one. In fact, I'll be seeing it at least one more time in theaters.

Sometimes, I wish critics would go in with different mentalities for different movies. No, this movie isn't the Descendents or The English Patient. But I thinks it's far from the worst comic book movie.

That honor, IMO belongs to Catwoman and Batman & Robin. And critics are saying the "predictably cartoonish" Nic Cage is not entertaining anymore.

To "you" (critics) it may not be entertaining anymore, but for myself and the rest of the audience in the theater, it was pretty apparent Nic Cage ruled the day in this film.

No way TSOV was better than the first one. I am not saying that the first one was good, but at least the action was better. The action in this movie was slow and boring. I had to see it because I love GR, but it is not worth the time. It would not even be worth the money if you saw it on one of those 1 dollar movie nights. Maybe you should watch it when it is on free TV, but beware that you will not get that time back

Action in this was better, IMO. In GH, he whipped out his chains, spun them, beat bad guy. Rinse/repeat every action sequence. This one at least had style, and we saw the Rider do some other things in fights, and the chain hits making people dissolve was cool.

It will be a sheer miracle if this movie makes 50 Millions on the US/Canada market IMO.

It totally bombed everywhere in the world the past three days and it will get only worse from now.

More important and relevant than any "rotten tomatoes" critic is the word of mouth and the word of mouth is extremely BAD.

There will never ever be a third movie for the GR.

I would rater watch a 30-45 minutes long animation flick based on it than a third live stuff anyway.

And done by people like the ones who did Batman : The Animated Series.

I personally thought the original was much better. A great movie it wasn't but I thought it was at least entertaining and had enough good action scenes to make it watchable and enjoyable. I thought SOV was dull, lifeless and had so many stupid moments that kept taking me out of the movie. There was so much they could've done to make a far superior sequel, have Danny Ketch and Vengeance both in it, make Blaze a darker character, tone down the cheese, etc. but nope, they had to make a below-average and disappointing sequel instead.

Christ, I've never been so torn on a movie before.

Some of you are saying it's pure dumb fun while others are saying it's not even a so bad it's good kind of film. I can't make up my mind if I want to see this in the theater tomorrow.

With no disrespect towards the team that made Ghost Rider (the first one), Spirit of Vengeance was a better portrayal, to me, of this character. While the first movie was a fun ride in itself (which I did enjoy), the lack of darkness rubbed me the wrong way in the end. Where that movie failed (and only slightly), Spirit of Vengeance did not. Ghost Rider in this 2nd incarnation was indeed darker, scarier and far more badass. That, I truly loved... and guess what folks? I didn't go to this movie to see Nic Cage or any other actor. I didn't even go to this movie to watch some incredible story written by a team of geniuses. I didn't go to this movie to see Blackout or the other baddies. I went to this movie to see Ghost Rider in all his flaming kick ass glory.

So, with that said, if I were to compare the two incarnations of this character... the 2nd beats out the 2007 version by a long shot and it's well worth watching on the big screen.

Same here :ghost:
