IGN said:Conan Director Scoop
Exclusive word on who is in the running to helm.
Now that Nu Image/Millennium Films have struck an interim agreement with the WGA that allows Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to start writing the script for the new Conan movie, the producers are on the hunt for a director to bring the Robert E. Howard character back to the big screen.
Hitman helmer Xavier Gens recently confirmed for IGN that he had indeed met with the producers about helming Conan, but sources close to the production told us that Gens is just one of several contenders in the running for the job. Also, Gens' commitment to making Vanikoro his next film might prevent him from landing the job as the producers and distributor Lionsgate are intent on starting production later this year.
IGN has now confirmed a rumor first reported by Bloody-Disgusting.com that musician-filmmaker Rob Zombie (Halloween, The Devil's Rejects) has met with the producers about directing Conan. Our source advised us, however, that no one will be hired until the script is finished.
Our insider also exclusively informed IGN that, in addition to Gens and Zombie, the producers have met with British filmmaker Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) about directing Conan. Marshall's next film is the post-apocalyptic thriller Doomsday for Rogue Pictures.

I posted this in another thread, but perhaps it belongs here.well lets see been four months and no new stuff, and no comments, im guessing people have lost interest or have no inside contacts?

Actor to star, produce Thulsa Doom film
By MARC GRASER
Djimon Hounsou has partnered with Dynamite Entertainment to star in and produce a bigscreen feature about immortal sorcerer Thulsa Doom, a central figure in the Conan the Barbarian and Kull comicbooks.
Character will be featured in his own comicbook series, published by Dynamite, an imprint of Dynamic Forces, next year.
He originally appeared in the Robert E. Howard pulp story "Delcardes' Cat," published in the 1930s.
Doom was portrayed by James Earl Jones in 1982's "Conan the Barbarian."
Planned pic will showcase the origins of the flawed hero and show how his road to hell was paved with good intentions.
Dynamite's president and publisher Nick Barrucci will develop and produce the pic with Hounsou, Arthur Lieberman and Luke Lieberman.
Project is not yet set up at a studio.
Barrucci and the Liebermans are behind a feature based on the comicbook "Red Sonja" that Robert Rodriguez will produce and Douglas Aarniokoski will direct for Nu Image and Millennium Films. Rose McGowan will star in the pic.
Hounsou most recently appeared in Summit Entertainment's "Never Back Down." He will next co-star in "Push," also from Summit.
Dynamite Entertainment also publishes "Project Superpowers," "The Boys" and books based on "Army of Darkness," "Battlestar Galactica," "The Lone Ranger" and "Zorro," among others.
i'd make the big bad a big name, i'm just not sure what story they are telling so its hard to offer suggestions. wish they'd get a great epic director, someone in riddley scotts class not likely to happen though. anyone you'd like to see direct or play any particular role?
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111one
I've been picked to be a concept artist for Conan!
Soooooo Happy!!!!!!!!!!
You know, REH's description of Conan was pretty vague. He doesn't have to look how Frank Frazetta drew him. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
maybe envolve mel gibson , his movies are most often, shoot always good and with movies like braveheart and apocoliso(sp) i think he might be a good choice, not acting in it but producing and directing?
any thoughts and yes translate the novels as close as possible

Conan is supposed to be HUGE, even in his earliest adventures.i'm thinking an unknown, early twenties , someone that can grow into conan, he don't even have to be huge in muscle, just built he should get bigger as the movies go on, but that just my wishful thinking
