Director Marcus Nispel is on track to start production March 15 in Bulgaria — if they can find the right barbarian. Last weekend, it seemed like things came down to two buff finalists: Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga sequels New Moon and Eclipse), and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis). Suddenly, Millennium and partner Lionsgate decided today to look at another unnamed but better established actor before deciding.

Talk about your wrong choices. Although I love Ronan and think he'll make a great Kahl Drogo.

With that semi-neanderthal look he has, if Jared Padalecki bulked up some, I'd be down.

Dude, he is cut, he's just not a 'roid Gorilla like Arnold and Lou. Besides, Conan isn't a weightlifter/ bodybuilder.

Kind of antsy with this casting though. Don't like seeing people from the Twilight series being named...

I mean I don't think they want the guy to look too roided out. And like Nivek said he is pretty cut watch him in the latest F13 movie or latest season of Supernatural.

Jason Momoa was an interesting choice

I like Momoa and Padalecki both. I might prefer Padalecki -- he reminds me of Barry Windsor-Smith's Conan. But Momoa without the beard and dreads would also fit the part. I think, though, that they might want to go younger.

I always thought Tom Welling could work as a young Conan. It would also give him a good part to break his Clark Kent image.

I don't get it how hard is it follow source material, if we were making a movie about malcom X we would try to stay true to his life stoty, why can't they for Conan? The story has already been written, just film it already. honestly how many people have read conan? I hazard to guess not many. so film it by the book...pun intended. as far as conan, I want an unknown with a name actor for the bad guy/girl.

Right there with you, man.

I hope in this movie, Conan the Barbarian will slay an evil wizard called Leno. :hehe: But by the time this movie finally arrives, this late-night war would've had new storyline already.

honestly, i'm not feeling this movie. I know..it's early but i've a bad feeling about it.

I agree totally with staying true to the source for Conan, the books are popular because of the tales within them, but to be honest..... there isn't a "life" story there to film. The Howard books are episodic and do not contain an "origin" tale. Conan is born on a battlefield into the peoples of Cimmeria, but that's about it.

Kids will want to see the original Conan. Bring back Arnold.

your right, it isn't a life story, but the material is there for the following, we don't need a fresh story we need a good translation from book to film, I used the real person reference to show the importance of using source material. Conan shouldn't be treated any differently than any other real person even though he a literary person. we don't want someones take on the character we want the character Howard wrote about. thanks to all that agree with me by the way, I'm glad so many want a good Conan movie.

I want a good Conan film, based on the books. Not the Arnold films. Not the TV show. Hell, even based on the Dark Horse comics would be a huge step closer to the source.

Double post.

Which reminds me. Whatever happened to "Red Nails"? Based on the news so far for this live action production, "Red Nails" may be our best Conan hope.

EXCLUSIVE: Today's the day for all things Conan to be resolved. First, there was Conan the late night host getting a whopping check to leave. Now, Conan the Barbarian has been crowned. I hear that Millennium Films, Lionsgate, and rights holder Paradox Entertainment have approved Jason Momoa to star in Conan, the rebirth of the Robert E. Howard-created series. The brawny star of Stargate Atlantis who also stars in HBO's Game of Thrones, Momoa got the nod over Kellan Lutz, the Twilight guy. I told you that the search for Conan had come down to the duo. Sources said that director Marcus Nispel was sold on Momoa, and won over the filmmakers by shooting a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like. This keeps the film on course for a March 15 production start in Bulgaria, and it closes a long ordeal in bringing the saga back to the screen. Paradox originally set up the film with Warner Bros in 2002, and then moved it over to Millenium in 2007.
