'Constantine' casts 'Guardians' riot guard as Jim Corrigan (aka future Spectre)
By James Hibberd on Sep 5, 2014 at 5:30PM

John Constantine is getting some potential help this fall: NBC is adding DC Comics character Det. Jim Corrigan to its Constantine series.

The New Orleans homicide detective will be played by Irish actor Emmett Scanlan, who is known to UK audiences for his roles on The BBC’s Atlantis and The Fall, and recently received some global viewership for a minor riot guard role in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Constantine stars Matt Ryan as the the sarcastic street magician in the title role who battles demons, figurative and literal, using his wit and knowledge of the occult. Corrigan is potential ally who “is obsessed with justice, and who doesn’t let police procedure or red tape stop him from putting away the bad guys, even if the bad guys turn out to be inhuman.” As DC Comics fans know, however, Corrigan also eventually becomes the avenging spirit The Spectre.

Constantine debuts Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. after Grimm.

This is so strange. I've been a fan of this guy for years now from his humble beginnings on a small UK soap opera and it's great to see talented rewarded.

Constantine, Dr. Fate, and now Spectre? It's going to be a great season. Would be even greater with Zatanna though.

I wonder if they are going with the nude version.

Haha totally one of the characters I'd hoped would show up, awesome news!!

Cool. Emmett Scanlan was great as a zombie on In The Flesh

Call me crazy but I watched the Keanu Reeves Constantine last night and I...actually really liked it! I can't put my finger on it, maybe it was the cool visuals, cinematography, the dry humor, or Keanu Reeve's hilariously stoic face but it just rubbed me the right way.

Now, don't me wrong, Keanu is NO Constantine. But, in a weird way, his incredibly dry and flat line delivery somehow worked for this. I think if they had a much more charismatic, more faithful actor as Constantine the movie would've been much more sucessful but alas...I can see it being a cult classic. Am I alone here?

No I liked it. But as I've said, I never read the comic books so had no preconceptions.

Just watched the first episode of the series again and also really liked it. Not perfect, the actors will need time to fill into the role. But have really high hopes for it.

Prefer not knowing the characters as I wont be waiting for joe bloggs to turn into a werewolf or something. It will come as a total surprise. I also wont be disappointed if one of the characters is different to it's portrayal in the comics.

Well NBC after paying WB/DC for the rights for the show aren't going to make sure it fails are they by putting it on slots that won't work or not promoting it. They'll lose money too.
