Constantine

Try reading a book next time  There's more to him, how about you ever think that was just a shield, a way to keep himself away from the world from being hurt so many times. Whatever, it's obviously too complex for you, you should stick to your cookiecutter characters with resolutions that come gift-wrapped.

I'm putting a new system in place for rating movies...

If you like it, then it probably sucks.

That's my new system

It's just a matter of personal taste, guys.

I thought this said I wasn't being serious with the insults:

More elitism:

I find putting :D in your posts makes things to obvious and I'm a fan of subtle... I'm just having fun being an elitist prick, i don't mean really anything by it.

So we all cool then

I love the exorcism scene, btw.

That's actually very much like the comic book, in the books Constantine doesn't use magic just all trickery, that's an awesome scene

I liked this movie. I have the Special Edition DVD. I hope they have a sequel. Anyone know?

Sadly not so far, which is strange seeing as it got fairly good critical review and also made a tonne of cash at the box office.

I got a comic (or preview comic) with the dvd and it was actually quite cool, but I much prefered the more angel-esque version of a movie. I just think he would have sounded fairly ridiculous with a liverpool accent on the big screen :p

the comic is one of those things on my ''to do'' list. But so much stuff, so little money :(

I think I got the comic too. Did it come with the Special Edition? Cause thats the one I got.

Serious question: The reason for no british accent was that no hollywood studio was interested in that so it was changed. Would the comic fans rather have no accent or no movie?

I would assume that some of the other character traits like use of magic and going to gum from cigs would prolly have changed no matter what since movies tend to work that way.

If there was a sequel, who would Constantine go up against?

Yeah that's the comic....satan is in a kid's disguise and gets constantine hooked on cigarettes, only to find constantine stole his packet :p

speaking as someone with friends from liverpool, believe me, you do NOT want to hear one on the big screen....it's pretty harsh on the ears :p

Another thing is THEY completely ****ed up the story line about him having cancer... The movie lacks the effect the original story has because of a few things. First the story in the books comes after you've read lots of adventures of Constantine, 2nd it's a very personal story, it doesn't involve going to hell, and thirdly it doesn't take back seat to the end of the world. The original story was so effective because here's a guy who gone one on one with demons and who knows what else, and he's going be taken out by cancer. And the way he's cured is a hundred times better at the end, he completely risks all of the world to save himself and then goes an lights up another cigerette and walks off.

Not to mention Constantine from the comics would never, ever try and get into heaven because he can't stand hell. Numerous times in the comics, he's felt that he can damn take over hell. In fact, a few times, he actually prefers the First of the Fallen to God because the First at least won't act like a total wankjob to him. And I also hate the fact that his entire motivations were changed. The Constantine from the comics wasn't born with this stupid "ability" to see half-breed demons or anything like that. Constantine was just an ordinary bloke who fell into the occult world as a way of rebelling against his father and working-class London as a whole.

And the twist at the end of Dangerous Habits was a much, much, much better plan than the one at the end of the movie. At the end of Dangerous Habits I literally went "holy ****, he ****ed the First over two ways from Sunday". I didn't get that same feeling for the movie...

I would've rather the movie just cut off all connections with Constantine and just have it be about a generic demon hunter featuring Keanu myself...

Movies205 is OWNING this entire thread. It's uncanny.

FInally the calvary have arrived... I Thought the entire world had gone bonkers! I got pick up a Constantine Graphic Novel... I'm going to B&N today, maybe I'll pick one up but it so damn expensive when you buy it not online...

Pick up All His Engines. I think it just came out in softcover format and it's honestly how they should've done the first Hellblazer film

So from what I'm seeing, all ten fans of the comic book are crying and whining while everyone else seems to like the movie....sounds fair to me :p:up:

I think the movie is highly under rated. I actually liked it alot. Keanu was a bit stiff, but when isnt he?

I like the movie, but the comic is about 200 times better than the movie.

Add an extra zero to that number and that would be my assessment

I just wasn't a huge fan of the movie not only because it wasn't a good adaptation of the source, but because the movie copied a lot of plot elements from other media like the Prophecy, Blade, Buffy, Angel, etc.

The movie is classic. I would like a sequel, but I don't think we will see one. Keanu said he wouldn't mind. If you haven't seen it, see it!

Yeah, I think more people should see this movie. Keanu did say he wouldnt mind a sequel. Now all he has to do is convince the studio.

That doesn't make the comic better for some people.
Nor would Keanu's acting or whatever make the movie better than the comic.
So let's stop with the "OMG THE COMIC IS BETTER, LOOZERS!" trolling, please.
This is NOT a "Hellblazer vs. Constantine....FIGHT!" thread.

God No... Best hope is for an HBO series closer to the comic book, that'd kick ass!
