Contest Of Marvels (Thread 1)

Yeah. The kicker is that every other thread had 15 votes. This is the only one with even numbers.

SEMIFINAL LOCATION

This Week's location will be held on Planet Hulk. This unknown planet is very much like Rome in it's culture, with the person in charge known only as the Emperor. This planet has managed to acquire pieces and parts of advanced technology over many years. There are three types of species native to the planet: The Imperials (leaders), the Natives(slaves), and the Shadow People(Warriors). This planet is also located near a cosmic portal, so all types of aliens and technology come to be on the planet.

These two matches will be similiar to the old gladiator battles and will take place in the stadium arena.

Just want to let everyone know that I may not have my post up until Tuesday. Been pretty busy of late.

Also, how big is this colliseum the characters are fighting in?

The best I could do...I would say it's at least a 100 metres apart...

no problem.....too bad hulk won't be part of civil war...

Cause the government already knows who he is and what he is and all the people involved in Bruce Banners life. Hulk would just be like Puny Humans. Hulk wouldn't give 2 ****s about a registration.

Not that this is the place to argue this but there is a lot more to Civil War than simply that. Anyways take it to the Civil War thread...

THANOS(BLAZE)

Vs

LOKI(POWdER-man)
Loki.jpg

Pretty good matchup hear. Loki may not be a match for Thanos, physically. But, his awesome mystical powers definitely make up for that. He is a powerful spellcaster, only behind Odin and Karnilla in terms of power in Asgard. He can perform many different kinds of spells and enchantments.

Both characters are extremely cunning as well, and both have masterminded their share of brilliant schemes. Thanos definitely has the edge, scientifically, but I'd give Loki the edge in the mystic knowledge. Still, it has been said numerous times that Thanos has studied the black arts and has enhanced his already impressive powers via mystical means. So, he's definitely no fool when it comes to mystic knowledge.

With his knowledge of things mystical, and his versatility with his cosmic and Eternal powers, Thanos is more than capable of dealing with Loki's magic. The Titan also has extensive knowledge of Asgardian physiology. But, Loki is a son of a giant, so it is debatable whether or not he'd also have any info on giants as well. Still, if he's got the stats for the Asgardians, in my opinion it's reasonable that he's got the stats for all of Asgard's races. Also one thing to consider is that the majority of the Norse gods, save for Odin and his brothers, descended from. So, it could be argued that there would not be much of a different between the typical Asgardian's vital stats and those of the giants.
But, whatever. I'm not really wanting to get into any mythological debate, so I'll leave that as is.

As for Thanos' powers, he's shown and said to be, as strong as the Hulk (base strength). He is also one of the most durable beings (short of cosmic gods) in all of comics. He's stalemated Tyrant, a being that beat the crap out of the Silver Surfer, Gladiator, Jack of Hearts, Ganymede, and Beta Ray Bill combined. He's beaten Thor with the Power Gem and Warrior Madness when the likes of the entire Infinity Watch, Silver Surfer, and Beta Ray Bill could not. He's even stalemated Odin in Asgard. He's even survived an entire planet exploding with no signs of damage at all.
He's also extremely quick and agile given his size (fast enough to keep up with Gamora).
He is also able to increase all of his physical abilities via cosmic energy manipulation to higher levels, as shown when he fought his doppleganger who had more raw power than he did.

Thanos is also one of the greatest planners and battle strategists in the entire MU. Loki is up there in the mastermind department as well, but I'd definitely give Thanos the edge as far as battlefield tactics go (they were never Loki's strong suit). With the battle taking place in an arena such as this, there'd be no room for surprise attacks as both combatants would be sent to the battlefield at the same time.

As far as hand to hand combat skills go, Thanos definitely has the major edge. Loki was never really one to work on his physical fighting skills, whereas Thanos honed his fighting skills on some of the worst planets in the galaxy for hundreds of years. He also personally trained Gamora, who is one of, if not the, best martial artist in the MU. He's a master of many different kinds of combat forms and techniques that would/could be used in a fight.

He's also has tons of resources at his disposal from the oft-mentioned stasis gun, to powerful shields that are able to take blasts from a being twice as powerful as Galactus, to teleportational equipment, to various other bombs and weapon.

All in all, I say that this is a good fight. Loki's mystic powers are up there and will keep Thanos on his toes. But, after a good fight, Thanos walks away the victor.

This is a tough match. Loki certainly hasn't had it easy facing Silver Surfer, Gilgamesh, and Adam Warlock in the last 3 rounds. However it's just one more step to the promise land.

I don't think I will bother debating any issues brought on by Blaze since they are mostly showing how powerful Thanos is and what his strategy would be. So I will show you how Loki could win this match and his strengths and what to HIS advantage.

Physically this is not a matchup, I would not rely nor would Loki depend on beating Thanos physically. There is just simply no comparison.

However there is still the possibility that Loki could enhance his powers and give himself other powers, such as cosmic energy absorption. This could enable him to simply drain Thanos' energy and fire it back to him.

Although, I will give you that Thanos is probably the better schemer with the slight edge. But Loki is still an excellent strategist, since that's basically all he does, is figuring out a way to take Asguard and defeat Thor. Which he has been quite successful to a degree. However, just because Thanos has this edge does not make it certain he could come up with a better plan. It only takes Loki to come up with one brilliant plan to work which might not have been thought of by Thanos or expect. Loki is full of plans and this would not be beyond him. Plus magic (and even Loki) is unpredicatble, so it's probably the most difficult to guard against.

Although I am aware that Thanos has "experience" with the Dark Arts in which he will probably have a good amount of knowledge, there is a difference in having knowlege of magic, but it's another being able to wield it to your every whim. Magic is at Loki's mercy and there is pretty well an unlimited amount of things he could use it for.

Prep-Time
As I am sure that Thanos would prepare for this match, so would Loki. He will cast an awareness spell to find out all the information on Thanos. He will know the ins and outs of his opponent. He will know his defeats and how he has been beaten in the past. Loki will than cast an awareness spell to find out information on Hulk Planet. He will note there are powerful beings that live there, and decides this is where he will use his strategy.

As well, during his prep time he casts some enhancing spells to give himself cosmic absortion(similiar to Absorbing Man) and cosmic powers to fire in place of his normal energy blasts. He enhances his physical abilities as much as he could in speed, strength, and durability. He than casts spells that would make him immune to certain attacks and activate a shielding around him.

Match
As my opponent has pointed out there is not a large amount of room to work with, however with his teleportation ability he could stay one step ahead of Thanos. (I know Thanos has this capability but he couldn't predict where Loki would be next) He immediately takes control over the minds of the beasts in the arena and give them additional powers in cosmic energy and enhanced speed and durability. I have also read that this planet holds creatures that are as strong as the Hulk, with some of them more stronger. As it's said this is a planet where Hulk is NOT the strongest. Unlike Strange in the other semifinal, Loki has no squemishes in sacrificing these creatures to Thanos, as he probably wouldn't care. They don't call him the "God of Evil" for nothing. These creatures will be more than a handful for Thanos if we are talking about possibly several hundred beasts, or even just several dozen. Meanwhile, Loki casts a spell on the ground to create more beasts (rock) to fight for him too, giving them more powers as well as in cosmic absorption. With several opponents around Thanos he will be busy trying to fend them off. However, even for Thanos multiple creatures with the strength of Hulk would eventually proove to be overwhelming and once one of the rock beast grabs onto him they will start sucking out his cosmic energy. He might knock that one off but than another will grab him, and another, and another, until his energy force has been drained to a point where he is nearly without it. In this state with all the creatures with Hulk strength will simply beat on him until he is incapacitated. Even thanos would suffer from that type of punishment.

As well, with Thanos being weaker, Loki could cast a spell to tranform him into another object. He wouldn't have as much defense to defend himself against that and Loki could be slowly working on this spell while Thanos was busy fighting the other creatures. Once Thanos has been transmuted by magic into a whatever object, he will be incapicitated and Loki will win.

Loki has many more options and powers at his will but I gave you a good idea of a strategy that Loki could go with. The God brings down the Titan.

WINNER LOKI

Good strategies, Powder.

There's just two things I'd like to say though.

Thanos is constantly processing cosmic energy. In order for Loki to drain Thanos of his cosmic powers he'd have to take him to a dead universe, or what not, where there's no cosmic energy around for him to absorb. Of course, that'd be damn hard to do considering the Titan is able to move through realities.
Now he could, in theory, block the flow of cosmic energy into Thanos, but I'd imagine that the Titan would have put up safe guards against just such a move a long time ago. Wouldn't be very Thanos-like if he didn't.

As for transmuting him, that would be extremely difficult for Loki to do. Thanos has complete control over his molecular structure and has shown extreme resilliancy to having his molecules mucked with.

Crap, this one is harder than the other one. I've debated back and forth a few times.

My vote:

Thanos (though I don't actually WANT him to win, I think in all fairness, he would)

5-1 Thanos over Loki

Don't make me bring out the Thanos Copter...:o
