The Dark Knight Rises Continuity in TDKR

Love how even the smallest details are important to Nolan and Co.

Just re-watched the Prestige last night, and I was really really impressed by this movie. Plenty of little details here and there that become super-relevant later on. I was also impressed by Christian Bale's acting given that he had to
subtly play two separate characters/twins. With enough attention, you could start to notice some slight differences in how the two twins act (at least in relation to other people) and be able to recognize which twin is which.
.

As far as TDKR goes, I just noticed that dog-bite scar when somebody pointed it out. I am definitely going to re-watch BB and TDK paying a lot of attention to detail right before watching TDKR.

On a side-note, I wonder if Joker's magic trick was somehow influenced by Nolan previously doing The Prestige. What if Nolan inserts some sort of Inception reference into the TDKR???

Alfred did a piss poor job of stitching. If he weren't so busy cracking jokes about dogs & Wayne crushing on Rachel he might have done a better job. :o

Funny you mention that, a few weeks ago I was thinking of one of Alfred's lines in that scene: "whenever you stitch yourself up, you do make a bloody mess." Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but I like to see this line as having a deeper meaning.

Bruce chose to become Batman in an effort to deal with the turmoil he was going through over his parents' death. Let's face it, it was a bit of a hatchet job, a poor effort at "stitching" his mental wounds.

In TDKR, it looks like Bruce is going to have to face up to this. He's going to have to deal properly with his guilt over his parents' death (and Dent/Rachel's) before he can "rise".

They remembered even the shape of the scar.

Wow, I had never read between the lines like that. I think the "stitching" may also foreshadow and apply to the Harvey Dent cover-up (can we get people in the boards to start calling it Dent-gate or some other short hand?)

I take it you're being sarcastic. :cwink: Was just a musing of mine.

So cool that they've remembered that! I for one, wouldn't have given it the slightest thought though, haha. But pretty amazing detail, I gotta admit!

That's cool. Good eyes.

I'm looking forward to the other scars and bruises Bane is going to add.

He's going to get some from the ladies too. A nice one from Tatelia's [blackout]stabbing[/blackout] and maybe some claw marks from
Catwoman's heels? :oldrazz:

:doh:i forgot to mention the monorail. The monorail made a brief/small cameo in one of the exterior shots of TDK right before Bruce Wayne's fundraiser party for Harvey Dent. I think I only noticed this upon 2nd viewing (which was also at an 60 foot Imax screen). Now I can't unsee it, even when watching it on TV.

Appears again during the establishing shot of Wayne Enterprises. There are at least two or three visible in just that one shot.

Also, as for the Joker references... the battle for Gotham's soul rested on one final wild card: Harvey Dent.

That card's still very much at play in The Dark Knight Rises. If Bane reveals the truth, the Joker's won. I'm sure once the film is out, Nolan will probably confirm this line of thinking. Obviously the Joker can't appear, but that battle wasn't over thematically, and Nolan seems intent on bringing that storyline to its natural conclusion.

It's genius in a way because once Joker made his final move, he set events in motion that are perfectly capable of unfolding without his direct influence.

Other Batman Begins references in The Dark Knight:

1) When Bruce says "Criminals aren't complicated," to Alfred, he's referencing Ras Al Ghul's teaching from the first film. This is before Alfred expands on Bruce's understanding; "some men just want to watch the world burn."

2) After Rachel dies, when Bruce is looking out the window before Alfred comes in with a meal. The exchange between the two directly mirrors the scene where Alfred consoles a young Bruce after his parent's death. In both scenes Alfred enters, turns to leave, and is told to wait by Bruce who then asks if he's to blame.

Nolan seems to favour thematic continuity over direct references. Although, that's not to say there's anything contradictory in the films, either; there isn't.

Also, early in TDK, Batman says " I don't need help "
To which Crane responds : " not my diagnosis "

Crane was right, as Batman will need Catwoman's and Blake's help

I believe bruce's cane will be a point of continuity if it is used because of the injuries sustained in tdk. . . He did get shot and take a wicked fall. Any takers?

The million and one times I've watched TDK and I never noticed that before
