Coronavirus and its possible impact on upcoming MCU productions

If Mulan does well I could see them doing the same with Black Widow.

There's not much they can do besides the odd director or casting announcement right now.

Yeah, they really should just drop a whole bunch of news on their frozen productions

...people still think they‘re „frozen“?
They‘re doing castings, they could release trailers...They have departments, that are still working everyday.
There was an investor meeting. New content exists. They just don‘t have the gutts to release it. DC will do that soon and I bet, they also don‘t have release dates set in stone. I won‘t bother getting an Eternals trailer or any picture out of the movie, even if it hasn‘t a real release date in February - even if it‘ll be postponed to May (which I suspect btw)
Same for the series on Disney plus

They don't know when these things are coming out. Therefore there is no reason to put out a trailer. Trailers are a piece of marketing. They're meant to call attention not just to the movie or show itself, but also its release date. With all the moves, releases are either really far away or indefinite. Therefore, releasing marketing materials for them is basically a waste of money. We won't get this stuff until they have a firm grasp on when things are coming. This is just a fact.

So does DC, but they will release footage when their event is happening

People are saying, Marvel owes nothing to the fans...after 5 long months (plus probably more) of silence Marvel owes us something.
In the end its not the investors or shareholders who pay for the movies - it us, the end customer. We pay for movie tickets, streaming subscriptions, merchandise...

What are those so called Marketing costs for Marvel, to release a trailer during an ESPN-event or on Disney plus? They sit on the footage, that was already editet for the shareholder meeting in March and July

DC has a different marketing strategy. Marvel has made several recent billion dollar films. They know how to market their stuff. They don't owe us anything. That is an entitled fan mentality. They will release news and footage when it fits their marketing strategy.

They had their big mic drop moment at Comic-Con and D23 last year.

By contrast, WB has had a rougher go of things with its DC stuff, and I don't think they even did much last Comic-Con. Fandome is great for them, but they need this big PR blitz more than Marvel does right now.

DC and Marvel are in different places right now. Marvel is sort of in a "rebuilding season", to use sports team terminology.

They capped of the last decade with Endgame , and in effect closed a chapter of the MCU you which had been going for 10 years basically.

They're basically adjusting to a new status quo, figuring out how to incorporate their remaining characters like X Men and F4 into the MCU, and laying the ground work for the next faze going forward.

Yes, they have Black Widow, but that's sort of like a post script to everything else up to this point. They're sort of at rest in some ways.

DC however, is sort of picking up steam and moving full steam ahead with their multiverse, for lack of a better term.

Between WW84, The Batman, Flashpoint, JL the Snyder Cut, Aquaman 2, Shazam 2, Joker 2 maybe ,The new Batwoman, The CW verse shows, etc. They're gonna be hitting the ground running with new content

So, I expect DC to be much more in the spotlight for now, at least in terms of the PR.

I'd be more confident if we didn't already have the exact same "Is DC finally going to eclipse the MCU?" conversation in 2016 when everyone was hyped about BVS and Suicide Squad, then...well, we all know how that worked out.

I'm excited about their upcoming projects (most of them at least), but the DCEU has shown an uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory time and time again.

.

I‘m definitely the bigger MCU fan, but I was never very excited that much for Black Widdow, Falcon & Winter Soldier - more for Loki, Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, Moon Knight, Blade and of course Black Panther 2.
The rumors about WandaVision sound great though....

But if DC really has big news for Aquaman 2, Flashpoint and even new franchises and show footage for James Gunns Suicide Squad, the Batman, Black Adam, WW84 and most awaited for the JL Snyder Cut series...that will be epic.
People of course remember Endgame, but that’s clearly years ago and a lot people probably saw the BW trailer said it looks like a nice action movie...but I want to see that new DC-****, that was just announced

I don't think its about eclipsing the MCU.

It just so happens that the circumstances lend itself that Marvel is in a transition phase while WB has alot of projects in the near future.

I don't buy into the whole Marvel v DC bs stuff. I'm just pointing out where the two studios happen to be at the moment.

I also, like Kevin Feige, don‘t see a fehde between those two studios. I really liked WonderWoman and Aquaman and I‘m super excited for the Snyder cut for JL.
I‘m just disappointed, that Marvel doesn‘t have something for its loyal fans in 5 almost 6 long months - and that after they also decided after Endgame, that they‘ll take a break. Now that break last 4 months longer, than they planned (and of course, it’s not their fault)
I‘m very hyped for DC FanDome

I'm hyped for what WB and what Disney/Marvel are doing going forward. I like what Feige has done in finally connecting all of their characters under one roof, and I love the idea of DC finally exploiting more of their properties than just Batman and Superman.

They're both entering a new era , which Covid ironically, has sort has created in pushing productions back ,so it's gonna be interesting to see how their projects turn out.

I've been a big fan of DC and Marvel comics since I was a kid, so I've never been invested in the fan nonsense over the two publishing companies and the two film studios.

I love that we live in an era in which you have both properties on tv and film , and I love there's so much variety among the properties.

Black Widow should at least be released in China and those countries without a Disney+ app yet.

But if Disney moved Kingsman 3 to neXt year, I don't see why they wouldn't commit to a theaterical film release for the neXt Marvel Studios film. I hope they are done banishing their tentpole films to Disney+. The difference with Mulan, is there are tensions with China (in so many countries) and that Mulan isn't part of a filmverse with 23 films released.

Why?

What why? If you're asking about tensions about China. Search about the South China Sea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and their relations with India and the U.S. government. Its all there in the news. And of course we all know where Covid 19 came from.

As for the movies, Mulan is a 1 off, Black Widow is part of the mcu.

If it really happens, that BW will get pushed back to 2021 (probably February) and wether FatWS as well as WV won‘t be released this year...than Marvel Studios is the biggest disappointed in Entertainment history!

Nope. People are hardly thinking about going to the movies right now. Did you see Tenet's box office numbers in North America? Even if Black Widow doubles that, 40 to 50 million isn't such a win. The movie is already delayed anyway so why not wait some more until more people are watching movies in theaters.

Not even a little.

This is what we call fanboy overreaction. The MCU just gave us the Infinity Saga over the course of 12 years, now you're going to try labeling them as the biggest disappointment in entertainment? This is a dumb argument. Seriously bro, take a chill pill and calm down.
