Coronavirus and its possible impact on upcoming MCU productions

Yeah, I think assuming Shang-Chi will flop just because China is a setting is flawed logic and sort of baseless.

If you're the kind of person that will skip the movie just because China is a country in the film and you're a racist bigot, then good riddance. Not citing any poster on here in particular with that sentiment, just saying in general if you're that type of racist bigot, then good riddance. Nobody cares

Doctor Strange 2 has now moved to March 2022, while Spider-Man 3 has moved from July of next year to November.

  • Thor: Love and Thunder — February 11, 2022
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — March 25, 2022
  • Black Panther 2 — May 6, 2022
  • Captain Marvel 2 — July 8, 2022
  • Untitled Marvel — October 7, 2022
This can‘t be good...
I can‘t watch 3 MCU-movies within 3 months
Also those will canabalize each other

5 movies in 1 year? I'm not gonna complain if they managed to release 5 movies in 2022, but it's literally 1 handful of films.

not to forget 3-5 TV-series...
But then again pre-production for all those projects can be done now with absolutely no pressure for almost 1 year
But then there will be no excuses, if the plot isn’t good

I expect it to be a ripple effect. While they might have a higher output than usual when they can start on their movies again due to preproduction there's only so much they can do in a year for shooting, publicity cycles, etc. Probably some more things will get pushed back like the October 2022 release, later Disney+ shows etc. when they have a clearer picture of what they can realistically make.

5 movies in one year is unrealistic- that won‘t happen.
Either Doctor Strange or Thor will be pushed back to the Captain Marvel date.
Two movies in February and March will be too much - that will cause big problems for the Marketing
If October is Blade, than I can see that not being pushed back.
Marvel needs at leat one new hero a year

But I also don’t believe Shang Chi is safe. If they really can continue filming in 2021 it’s not enough time to get it ready in 1-2 months

This weren’t the last delays

I'm pretty sure the reason for the Spider-Man flip is to possibly leave July 2021 open for Shang-Chi if it can't meat its May date, or if Black Widow gets delayed again, which would push Eternals to May and Shang-Chi to July.

Who knows when we will even be fully clear of this pandemic and when theaters are ready to open again. We really don't know.

I'm pretty sure the October 2022 has been delayed to 2023 or later because of Spider-Verse 2.

Spider-Verse has the October date now. Marvel Studios no doubt let them have it, thus only 4 films that year.

I'm wondering if some movies might make more/less because of everything. Even BW which I wasn't exactly certain would make $1B even in the May timeslot. However, now I could see it making that much because of everything going on.

Man this sucks, so Spiderverse 2 (a movie that I don‘t care for) is responsible for a rumored Blade-delay

No, more like the Coronavirus is responsible. Every studio is shifting dates around and getting back logged. It's just how it is right now.

I wonder how they‘ll manage filming Multiverse and L&T
For a February start of L&T they need to start filming in October this year. Same for Multiverse - but they couldn’t do both at the same time, could they?
Also Spiderman 3 has to be before both

Yeah I don't care about that movie. But a Marvel Studios movie shouldn't be delayed by a cartoon especially the cartoon is a Sony project not a co production.

Spider-Verse likely has little to do with the delay. Marvel Studios lost a great deal of production time and now have to release movies in much more rapid succession than they probably want to, so they prob made the choice to delay themselves, and Sony just took advantage of the situation.

Looks like we‘re having the 2nd wave now right before the projects go into production again.
I bet we‘ll hear another news about delays soon.
They could place Eternals in May 2021
Shang Chi to February 2022 (if they can‘t resume filming the next few months, they won‘t finish it for a 2021 release)
Spiderman 3 could keep its November 2021 release, but if they can‘t start filming, then it may delayed for July 2022
Doctor Strange & the Multiverse of Madness could be get the May 2022 release
Thor: Love & Thunder in July 2022 or October 2022 (if July is taken by Spiderman)

So all projects have pretty much received their planned release date like it was announced last year - only with a delay of a year

2023 could be Captain Marvel 2 (February), Black Panther 2 (May 2023) and the tbd in July, probably Guardians Vol.3

Unfortunate , but I have a feeling we‘ll hear that in a few weeks

This isn't a second wave. Here in the states, wave 1 never ended. It's just getting worse and spiking.

Doesn‘t matter how you call it, the result is that productions had plans to resume filmings and this won‘t be possible, due the worsening situation

I'd like to be proven wrong but I'll be surprised if Black Widow doesn't get pushed back to February at this point.

I wrote it also in the BW thread. Marvel Studios won‘t risk it to have absolutely 0 profit in 2020 - BW will be released, wether it’s in theaters or as digital release (not Disney plus)
