Costume.

I admire that they went with an all CGI suit because its suppose to be made out of energy, rendering every part of it in every scene is expensive. They did it for Sinestro too so almost double the costs.

But when you think about it if the CGI for the suit is at maximum quality so it looks like he's actually wearing some sort of alien wetsuit then it would've been cheaper to just create an actual suit and enhance it with CG to make it seem like energy is running through it.

Again I admire that they went the expensive route but resources could've been devoted at many other places.

They did it for Abin Sur too. Yep, they deserve kudos for all that work but I just know someone involved with the suit project smacked themselves when they realized they didn't have enough money to finish a few important scenes

I think I may be in the minority here but I think he should just be maskless period. The mask looked stupid with cg and I think it would look stupid practical. I dont think it works either way. He looked good in Oa with no mask.

I felt like this too. You know, just imagining the other Corp members wearing masks just makes me laugh. The idea of GLs wearing CGI domino masks is just a silly idea IMO. And I think the producers felt the same or else we would have had some of the other GLs wearing masks too. They only did the mask with Hal probably to get that classic Hal look. I would think space cops wouldn't need secret identities anyway and if they did they would have a mask that actually does more to hide their identities. Especially considering their ring can create ANY mask it wants to. They even made fun of how unconvincing the domino mask is in the film itself.

The guys working on FX just didn't have enough time let alone money to finish everything. I mean I really dig the look of the suit in the movie but it was really inconsistent. To me he sometimes looked all green (making it look very fake) when the ring is in use and energy is running through it. Wish they would emphasize the black more so he wouldn't be just a glow stick.

I believe in the first draft Sinestro explains that he has a mask because Earth doesn't know of any alien life forms or proof of any at least. He also mocks Earth by asking if we still believe it is flat instead of round.

Unconvincing for people who know Hal, not everyone else.

I also really liked seeing the transition scene from Hal in regular clothes into the suit especially at the end when he was with Carol. I enjoyed how it sort of came out in layers and looked physically real. I wish they did it more often but I guess not enough money again.

I think it would've been easier with a pratical suit, just have an actual suit enhanced with CGI. They would've saved a lot of money or spent it towards other things, such as more Oa.

Yeah, I've been saying that as well. Same goes for the mask. Actual mask, just have CGI touch ups on it.

The mask is silly. That's kind of the point. It's like Clark Kent and his glasses. No one would ever be fooled, but its part of the characters' charm. Do none of you have any reverence for the basic concepts of the character? Everything is "silly" to you and that's it. Hell, the movie itself even pointed out the obvious silliness of the mask.

a bigger mask wouldn't be silly though

i did a redesign where the mask was just a sheild of energy that was in front of his eyes it offered decent coverage while being completely see through from hals perspective

Do you have a pic of that? Would love to see it.

Damn, the more I think about it the less I like the idea of a domino mask in this character's context

its not a great pic, and its future-y looking because its supposed to be the same time as batman beyond

his costume is supposed to have the lantern stretched across his chest

I think there's more important things relevant to the character than his frickin' mask. Still doesn't mean I just have to accept it when it looked kinda squirrelly.

And you know what? Screw fanboy reverence for source material. There's people all over the Man of Steel boards ready to get pitch forks and torches if they get rid of Superman's damn underwear. Talk about missing the forest for the trees. What works in one medium doesn't necessarily work in another. Personally, I like the changes inherent in adaptation. Those kinds of tweaks are what makes it all fun and interesting. The spirit of the story and the character is what's important, not some minor detail like a domino mask or underwear.

Not even going to comment that. Should just put you in ignore list.

Superman`s costume is classic, underwear and everything.

I think the designs for Superman's costume without the underwear are way better than with the underwear. It's time to move on from the 1940's underwear costume, its dumb plain and simple. I still say Green Lantern looks better without the mask. That whole scene where he saves everyone at the party, they all know him and they're all staring at him really you can't tell who he is because of that little mask. Even Carol couldn't tell at first. It's stupid, I can tolerate Superman and his glasses because that's his thing, its a joke that will always live on but he looks great with or without glasses; Green Lantern doesn't look good with a mask at all.

Yeah, now because of the stupid new costume, Superman is going to lose one his most classic trademarks, the SHIRT RIP!

Change is always good... :down

^ Who said anything about Superman losing his "shirt rip"?. Its even emulated in other superhero movies.

The shirt rip has to do with his... underwear? I thought it had to do with, you know, clothes we wears on the outside of the sui...

Oh, nevermind

Even though this is the GL thread I don't think the collar will mean the end of the shirt rip. When you think about it, he somehow has his cape stuffed in his shirt yet no one sees it. You have to suspend your beliefs to begin with, having a higher collar doesn't make it anymore ridiculous then it already is.

If we're gonna go there I'm more curious as to how he hides the boots of his suit. Those things do not fit into his loafers. I mean unless he stores them somewhere and rapidly changes into them when changing everything else.

I don't care for Superman's underwear and you're offended enough to want to ignore me? Way to be a walking nerd cliche.

Comics are a visual medium and superheroes have such a unique aesthetic (that Superman created) that yes, changing the way they look changes the character.
