Costumes In Need of Updating...

Dane's leather jacket works pretty well for him, actually. He strikes me as not really a cape sort of guy, even though he's often worn a cape. I'd prefer if he had some bit of armor or knight-like clothing other than just his helmet, but I think the leather jacket looks cool. I made him with that costume in the character creator on Soul Calibur 4, in fact. :)

Like I said I wouldn't be pushing for an exact replica of his old costume, in most cases capes are impractical, but like you mentioned it be great if he had a bit of an armoured look.

Just taking him back to his '90s Avengers look would be fine with me. Maybe swap the blue undies and chainmail for normal pants, but otherwise that looked cool. The current look is a bit too plain-clothes.

Capes are ******ed. It just makes you look stupid. Maybe with the exception of Batman.

MAYBE.

They are pretty stupid and even detrimental as was displayed in the Watchmen.
Yet for a guy like Dr.Doom it adds to his regal look.
Otherwise, unless there is some practicality to it then it can usually be omitted.

Capes work for certain characters. It's a symbol of power and regality to me. Batman's actually has practical uses as well.

How does watchmen down capes? I always think of the incredibles when I think of the health risk associated with capes:D

I'm pretty sure at the end of the first book, in the written section there is mention of some asshat who died as a result of his cape getting stuck in revolving doors.

Yep. He was stopping a bank robbery when his cape got stuck. Then BAM! No more asshat.

Yeah, I think so! I don't have the tpb with me though.

In the miniseries written by BKV and drawn by Marcos Martin, Martin did wonders for Strange's costume without actually changing it that much. That ridiculous blue tunic became a blue button-up dress shirt with the same design. The yellow sash was gone. The black tights became black slacks. That big ass collar from his cloak was still there, though...

You need the big collar. He's not Dr. Strange without the big collar.

I agree the cloak and gloves are his most recognizable features on his costume

Manic's got it right. F*** that JMS/Brandon Peterson redesign with the stupid, bland vest and cliché-as-all-hell trenchcoat. Martin designed the perfect Dr. Strange for The Oath. Other artists have just been too dumb to pick up on it in Strange's later appearances.

Yeah, that IS good. I still think they could do better though... The cloak of levitation seems pretty pointless to me. Strange is the SORCERER SUPREME. Does he really need a cloak of levitation to fly?

The cloak is alright in the art medium, but I just can't imagine it translating well to the big screen if an adaptation is ever seriously considered.

Not really. But using the cloak is easier than flying under his own power, according to Strange himself, and by this point he probably has a certain amount of attachment to it. So why not?

Makes enough sense for comics I guess...

I was going to argue that any space character wearing a cape is stupid, but then I remembered Gamora and you just can't argue with that ****.

Exactly. If he can spare a bit of power by using the cloak to fly instead of a spell, that might be just the amount of power that allows him to beat Baron Mordo for the fiftieth time. Besides, sorcerers and capes are practically synonymous. They're one of the few classes of superheroes that should probably all have either capes or robes.
