Its interesting they brought in Gwen Stacy which may have been a choice of others in the production camp but considering the role she played would Betty have worked? Eddie could have been dating or attempting to date Betty at the time. Working at the Bugle we would have gotten scenes with all three, Eddie Peter and Betty. Once Peter got the symbiote and that massive playas ego he would have pushed up on Betty taking His girl and his pride right in front of him. Also we would have gotten the reaction of Eddie being exposed as a fraud right in front of Betty making him look more of a loser. Something we didn't even get with Gwen. What do you all think? We still could have gotten a scene with Peter making MJ jealous and such. But anyway, any thoughts?

Absolutely. Gwen was not needed at all. Not when you have both betty and chocolate cookie cake pies girl already established. It's just stupid stupid stupid to throw gwen in the mix.

Hell yeah, Betty could have worked! Although Liz Banks looks a bit older than Toper, she's still a hottie and could have worked just as well as a romantic conflict point between Peter and Eddie. Eddie could have dated Betty once or twice and used her to get an intro to JJJ at the bugle. Then when "emo Peter" starts flirting with other girls he could just as easily have gone out on a date with Betty.

Anyone think introducing Felicia Hardy would of been better than Gwen.

Was Gwen one of Raimi's choices, or much like Venom, Avi's?

Gwen was a NOD to the fans... we should get that by now and accept it... but Betty would've been great with both guys vying for her affections... good idea... Gwen was a waste of screen time... hopefully she'll have a bigger role in SM4 where she will be killed off...

Yes! Without a doubt they should have used Betty instead of Gwen. Gwen should have never been in this movie. Blame Laura Ziskin for that move.

Its always the damn producers and studios....

I felt it would have worked more so for Eddie's motivation in hating Peter and had we gotten a scene with Peter glancing at Brock with an evil smirk after asking Betty on a date right in front of Eddie. That would have been classic. Instead we get more of hollow Eddie and his endless hatred and prayers for murder in a church. Pointless.

Gwen is a set-up, people! We will see more of her in Spidey 4 so stop complaining!

I loved the whole Peter and Betty flirting and when Jameson comes in says that line the whole placed exploded with laughter.

"I didn't hire you for that position."

Awesome line!

AAAAHHHHH **** Avi and Laura!!! It's Sam's movie! Not the damn fans! If he makes Spider-Man 4 I hope he sure as hell puts them in their place instead of over his shoulder all the time.

Well good luck convincing audiences to come back for Spidey 4 after a sloppy mess like this.

Gwen was Laura Ziskin's idea, Venom was Avi Arad's. Raimi originally had no intention of using either of these characters, read about it here http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=41291

A perfect case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

Since the Venom and Gwen additions are being roundly criticized now, I'm sure the blame with be laid squarely on "the fans". The time to listen to "the fans" about Gwen and Venom was long before SM3 was scripted, Avi and Laura.

The Brock and Gwen interaction was disapointing. I mean, what they were like in one or two scenes together I think. They went for a coffee once and he didn't even seem upsessed with her. She could have been left out of the movie.

" "Well, my brother and I had written in the story about another woman that recognized Peter and knew who he was at this dinner and that Mary Jane got jealous of her," Raimi said."

Perhaps this other woman was the role that Cloe whats-her-name was rumored to have auditioned for. Tis a shame that studios hamper the director's creative dreams, no?

She might've had little screentime, but Gwen wasn't a waste. She was there to help create conflict in MJ's and Peter's relationship, and also to be the 'last straw' of sorts to Eddie's hate towards Peter, which of course, leads to Eddie transforming into Venom.

uh, no. You got me confused with someone else with that one. I could care less about bond.

But Betty (an already-existing character in the films) could have played the same role.

We know why Gwen was there but couldn't Betty have worked just as well. There would have been better interaction at the bugle with Betty Eddy and Peter. Betty could have also been used as a device to make MJ jealous as well. She is Peter's co worker.

Gwen was a throwaway "other woman," in this movie. I did not mind that, I just think because it was Gwen Stacy, fans expected more. I wish it was Betty, instead though.
