Actually she discovered she was pregnant after shooting. That's just the way she was written.

And I concur with others that I was fine with the character's part, because she isn't a major character, like John Jameson. But think it's good she will return.

Then how come on the DVD commentaries Raimi was worried when Bryce was shooting the crane scene. He said something about her being pregnant during those scenes and was always careful. He even said something about him always looking over at Ron Howard cause he was nervous or something like that. Obviously she must have known she was pregnant during shooting.

She was, you can see it on her. Her clothes aren't too skimpy and are made sure to cover her stomach. They are glorified maternity clothes. She looked amazing in this movie though, really really stunning.

That's strange, because I recall Howard saying in Entertainment Weekly that she was concerned for her child as she had performed all those stunts. In any case, Gwen's role had been decided by the script, and Howard certainly had to be concerned when doing stunts.
