Now, I don't mean rated R, of course.

I mean a character study to the degree of those films. What they lack in spectacle they make up for in raw feeling. Love them or hate them, you have to agree they are emotional powerhouses.

Iron Man and Winter Soldier don't even come close to the same levels of individual turmoil and drama those films reach. But I do think they are the closest.

So what do you think? Doom? Silver Surfer? Moon Knight? Can we get that close and personal to a marvel hero or villain in one single film?

Jon Bernthal's Punisher would be a decent place to start imo if they did decide to go that route.

If they do something like that, Dr. Doom would be the character to do such a thing to. Think Books of Doom. Them showing him growing up, the turmoil he goes through while he is young and what made him so arrogant and gave him his knowledge and power.............it could be huge.

For starters, I don't agree with your premise, but, generally speaking, I think Blade could be a movie that rather emulates those movies. I'd like to see a slightly different approach than a Joker or Logan, but it's certainly doable.

I’d like to see more films like Joker and Logan, but I don’t think Marvel Studios is the place for that.

Maybe Noah Hawley’s Dr Doom could have been like that, certainly, but I figure that’s dead. I don’t think Feige goes in for that kind of filmmaking.

I doubt they will. That's one reason why I liked their partnership with Netflix. Netflix was able to go where Disney normally won't. We were getting the best of both worlds with things like The Avengers and Spider-Man getting films with appropriate tones for those characters, and then darker stuff with Daredevil and Punisher on Netflix which was fitting for those characters.

I don't think Marvel Studio's would want to make something like Joker or Logan as it just doesn't line up with how they do things.

As far as Marvel TV goes, Helstrom might have the darker tonality some of the Netflix shows had time to time.

It's likely Disney is limiting the amount of projects Marvel TV is able to take on for now as internal restructuring is probably on the horizon.

In either case, I think Marvel TV just focusing on 1 show instead of 4 at once may mean better production values. However, Disney's overseas push of Hulu still needs to happen otherwise they perhaps should get overseas streaming partners to showcase MA or R rated content not on Disney+.

Of course they could. There's no magic forumula, just hire a good director and give him some liberties.

I can't see them doing that with Disney at the helm

I wish they would.

Despite the simplistic criticism of some fans that folks with my opinion simply think an R rating makes something better, the real argument is that certain stories, certain characters and the themes and content that go with them in the opinion of a lot of other fans are best served by far less constraints on language or the limits placed upon graphic on screen depictions as mandated by a four quadrant above all approach.

Super Hero universes from the big two are gestalt creations with loads of variety. As a comic book reader back in the day my pull list for DC and Marvel would include Superman, Batman, Flash, Capt. America, Thor X-Men and Spidey but also Deathstroke, Punisher, Wolverine, The Question and Suicide Squad.

I personally don't get a fan perspective that crucifies MOS and BvS but also would have no issues with say a Moon Knight, Ghost Rider or Daredevil that was done in the MCU mold of movies. Being offended at the supposed inappropriate tone and content being applied would extend to say, making a Ghost Rider film or Moon Knight streaming show as they did Far From Home, right?

Is the approach of Marvel working financially? Sure, that isn't debatable (I would argue that riding that all things to all people four quadrant train with only the minor of deveation between films at some point will drain the audience's enthusiasm, especially as the younger in the demo get older, but I digress...) but at the same time I don't think shooting to make a film that is all things to all people by calculating it to the Nth degree of inoffesiveness is what serves a number of characters best creatively, nor does every film have to be a billion dollar BO winner to justify its existence, and thus requires for something that by its inherent nature is dealing with more mature/adult themes and content to be shorn of any edge or the like.

I think a Dr Doom or Blade movie in this vein would be perfect.

A sympathetic approach (at first) to Doom's childhood, rivalry with Reed, rise to power, could be amazing. Then to go straight into a Fantastic Four movie where we see the plight of both sides?

Could be great. And Noah Hawley is just the guy to do it justice.

I think Marvel could, and probably will eventually. They'll do it their own way and on their won terms , but given that WB and Sony are both gonna mine that area, I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel further expands their horizons and include villain films.

They could,if they want to. This is Marvel Studios after all. And if they don't want to, so what? I don't want more downbeat movies like Logan and Joker.

Just come out of Joker. Brilliant. Best movie of the year. Logan, on the other hand, did nothing for me. Very overrated.

I think not. First Class and Days of Future Past are reasonable films for them to follow, tonally.
