CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS.
Not too much though.

After seeing Ironman and The Incredible Hulk, the first 2 films from Marvel Studios, they really reminded me of what I loved about Marvel after not being too happy with Marvel movies or comics in the last couple of years.

I wasn't happy at all with the FF movies or Spider-man 3, and that first Hulk was not Hulk, and with the books, Civil War, giving Wolverine his memories back and revealing Wolverine's and Sabretooth's connection just seemed crappy and muddled, then erasing Spidey's marriage 'cause Quesada said it was confusing, that made no sense.

They seemed to make Tony Stark a big butt hole too, and I love TS/Ironman.

I stopped readin a few months ago and stayed away from Civil war quite a bit, then they pulled that stunt with Captain America. It just seemed cheap. don't mean to insult those who liked that stuff, it just did not feel like Marvel anymore.

But then I heard Marvel Studios was taking over their films and making sure they were more faithful. After seeing these 2 films I couldn't believe how great they were, it was the big colorful fun heroes I always liked alot.
I would go to the movies though and I wouldn't see the Heroes I liked since I was a kid, the X-men were not the X-men, the FF was not really recognizable, and Daredevil wasn't right either. Then I saw Spider-man 3 and could not believe Sam let his movies turn to such cheesy crap.

Then I saw Ironman and thought, okay this is as good as Spider-man 1, it just looked and felt like Ironman, I wasn't staring at the screen trying really hard to see them as the characters they were supposed to be.
Ironman was just Ironman, it was really cool, then friday at Midnight I saw The Incredible Hulk, and I knew Marvel has really taken charge.
This was the Hulk as he always should have been in the movies.
And it is so cool they have crossovers now, and Marvel's guys always interacted. I just wish that Tony Stark cameo was with Bruce instead of Thunderbolt.

I wish DC/WB would look at the new Marvel movies and make some new movies like these, faithful and fun and not afaid to have colorful costumes and all and have the character really pop up off the page, I'd love to see GreenLantern get a movie like these 2 movies from MS, and I'd love it if they remade Superman like MS did with TIH.

I don't know if the comics have improved but if I can at least see my heroes done right in the movies then, I'll watch the movies.

I felt that way about 8 years ago. X-Men and X2: X-Men United got me interested in X-Men again after the unfulfilling storylines of the 1990s nearly led me to quit reading X-Men comic books altogether. Then, the further reinvigorated superhero movie genre got me interested in all comic book related material again.

I haven't seen TIH, but I know the feeling. AS bad as Spidey comics are now, the worst period was 1999-2001 with the "reboot" and as good as JMS was then and Jenkins were of salvaging SM1 reinvigorated my interest.

X-Men comics I have lost interest in by the end of the '90s or beginning of this decade but the Singer movies made me know what I liked about them (at least partially), as does the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon now after the disappointing SM3 and the abyismal treatment of his character and MJ in the comics.

Iron Man is unapologetically a good movie. It is not only a good adaptation, it is flat out a good movie that leaves me grinning. I was never a huge fan of Shell Head, but I loved that movie. Hopefully something can rekindle our hope in FF one day.

Iron Man and Hulk 2008 are Marvel's best films IMO.

Spidey and the X-flicks haven't aged well with me,and while good films, never really captured that immense scale of destruction and scope.

I'm gonna' throw it out there: As much as I like what Marvel did this year (other than ****ing Norton over), they can make mistakes (look at the Favreau debacle) and see how "awesome" IM and TIH are in 5-8 years. Freshness is a big chunk with these movies.

I share your excitment but fear that somehow they will find a way to screw it up. Greed being my #1 fear. Hate to rain on the perverbial parade, but just look at the mess the Hobbit has been.
My #2 fear is rushing the next batch of films only to reach stupid release dates that were set before screen plays are even written!
I hope I'm wrong, I really really do. We'll have to wait n see.

I really beileve that Marvel Studios will get past all this petty crap with Favreau and Norton and let thse movies be made a the pace that the need to be made to be successful. They know that releasing lesser quaility films wil result in less money for them and if there is one thing that they want its more money.

On a side not, Spider-Bat you should really try to read Brubaker's Cap, not just from Rogers death but the entire series. I don't know if your loval library carries graphic novels but if they do try to see if they have the trades. This series changed my mind about Captain America and it's one of my favorite books now.

I agree. I think Marvel where a little nervous with Iron Man and Incredible Hulk because they where their first movies and they had alot of pressure on them. Favreau said as well that they are a small brand new studio so they shocked alot of people in Hollywood by how succesful they have been.

I think they will get slightly more comfortable with a couple of hit movies under their belt so stuff like Favreau and Norton incidentes won't happen again.

Yeah, but I'm worried that they're going to get too comfortable selling a brand name and nothing else. The chair of the studio thinking they can go it without Favreau, when they are rushing production (shooting starts next spring and they don't have a screenplay or director!) to make Avengers be out by 2011. I say slow it down and delay Avengers to 2012 and take your time making sure the 2010 and 2011 releases aren't rushed. I read an interesting review of TIH about how while it was good, the formula is very obvious and the end of the movie feels like a sales pitch for the next movie (Iron Man 2 and The Avengers), without seeing the potential mediocrity in their formula.

Maybe TIH underperforming is good for them, as I doubted it would ever get a third installment anytime soon and it will give them a momentary pause that maybe they should listen to the stars (Norton, Favreau, etc.) about what makes these movies work and not obsess with how to get the most franchises and properties out there with weird things like "Thor should be in Iron Man 2," even if that has nothing to do with Favreau's intended direction of the series. I could see this going SM3 direction of cramming fan favorites in without thinking things through if they're not careful.

I don't think they should have been too nervous they know the fans are there although I know alot were conserned after Spider-man 3 got messed up but there was alot of positive people out there who were hearing good things.

I just wish MS would remake DD and X-men, as much as people say x-men are good movies, I don't see it, the plot always feels the same and it never got the diversity right with the characters, and some better costumes like spdiey and Ironman would have been nice, I mean how hard would it be also to let colossus have a russian accent.

I think the only time I felt like I was watching an X-men character come to life was Beast and Professor Xavier.
And I hated back in 2000 2001 whenever it was that they tried to put them in those horrible leather suits. Astonishing put them back in the costumes but Cyclops had to give reason and wolvie complained but they are Superheroes there should be no explanation, it's a comic book, they are superheroes, it's part of the fun, that is what they wear.
That's why I hate movies that are afraid to try costumes and just cop out on leather crap make the comics then feel weird about using costumes, don't that's all part of the Superhero experience.
And poor DD got really screwed up, the Director's cut is a bit better but Bullseye is still ******ed and I'm sorry but KP is white and that is how it should be, he just doesn't look right and it's just not that character, it's not a race thing it is just that that character for decades has been white and is white so leave him that way. There are big whi9te actors that can do it even if it's an unknown.

TIH and IM were really good and I can't wait to see more. I hope they keep up the good work.

Well to say one small thing in DD's defense, I actually think Michael Clarke Duncan looked pretty badass as Kingpin and the race didn't bother me one bit. The fact he had about 5 scenes and cliché infested dialogue that downplayed his brilliance as a character did. But the physical look I thought for live action Duncan was perfectly cast for.

As for X-Men in 2000 I agreed with the PR and spin that it was a good decision, but I now lean more to yhour side and htink costumes should have been exploited more. It should have been a color pattern like when Lee and Kirby originally created it, because if they each had a different costume with completely different uniform patterns it would look ridiculous, but other than removing the Wolverine mask...I agree they went too far in "downplaying" the image. I still think Singer got the feeling of the more downbeat and cerebral X-Men stories. He may avoided all the bells and whistles of say sentinals, bright energy beams, the Shi'Ar, etc. but Singer's vision worked. They felt like X-Men stories. And I'll say that Nightcrawler in the White House and Wolverine going bezerk in the mansion still brings a smile to my face. But X3 is utter garbage and ruined that franchise IMO to the point where they cannot continue because it is too ****ed up.

I still like SM3 too. Albeit it could have and should have been much better. ;)

The thing is Marvel just doesn't have the time to remake those films yet. They are a small studio and can only produce two movie a year currently. Plus if they produced more themselves they could over saturate the market. A lot of people want to see a Marvel studio take on those characters but I think we will have to wait a while.

I don't really care if Kingpins White or Black unlike some other characters his race doesn't play a part to his characters.

^^ Agreed DD is too good of a character to be butchered that way. Hopefully they will give him a proper reboot and make everyone forget who was in it. It's too bad because Michael Clarke Duncan did a good job as Kingpin, white, black, asian, latino, or whatever he was a good Kingpin.

As for the X-Men movies (Singer's) costumes would have been nice but that would have been weird. Think about it, if everyone had their respective costumes on you would undoubtebly blind many. Even though the diversity of X-Men is what makes them great I think seeing that live action in their costumes would have been cheesy IMO.

I agree with much of what has been said here. Marvel Studios has really gotten me back into Marvel's products again. The very concept of bringing an actual Marvel Universe to the big screen is the dream of fanboys everywhere. Thus far Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk have been stellar and the future looks bright.

With that in mind, Marvel better go out of their way to make sure that Edward Norton and John Favreau are treated with the respect that they deserve!

I never thought that someday I would be able to walk up to a movie box office, look up at the marque, and have a choice of watching either an Iron Man or a Hulk movie....and both would be good.
Kevin Feige has a finger on the pulse of what fans want to see for the most part. He is a more qualified heir to Avi Arad's throne. I think we will have such a great time over the next 4 years, and beyond.
