I was thinking, could anyone date someone with the same name as one of their parents and has someone here done that before? I think it would be too weird and uncomfortable to say "I love you (insert name)". Am I overreacting?

I've thought about that too, actually. My answer is no. Ditto for cousins and siblings (at least those that you are close too).

Unless they have another name to go by, I really can't picture myself saying a name that is so far away from what I'd consider a "lover'.

You know what's even more awkward? Dating someone with the same name as you...
My name is Matt...do you know how many gay men have that name?
It's also a weird fantasy of mine...:ninja:

Hahahaha! I love the freaky **** that gets made into threads :D

I've never thought about it, and it's never happened.

I call my mother 'Mum', it would be weird if I said "I love you Mum" to a girlfriend.

I've never called my mom by her first name before, not yet at least. So it wouldn't be too weird, I guess?

True, I never call my mam by her first name. And I generally don't call girlfriends by theirs, either. Pet names and such.

I think anyone who could date someone with their parents (or siblings) name is weird, because even though I don't call me mum Penny I hear the name and she is what pops into my head and I assume that would be the same for most people.:o

Yeah, I call my mom "Mom." I could date a Linda. I wouldn't date a Robert (my dad), but that's because I likes the ladies. Honestly, though, with my name being Robert, I definitely wouldn't date a Roberta. That would be just a tad askew.

I'd be fine with dating someone with my mom's name, but it's probably because I don't call her that. Dating someone with my sister's name seems like it would be weird, at least at first.

i can't date girls with my mom or sister's name... it's just be too weird to be effing a girl and be like, "ooh, jessica/robyn!! yeah!" try doing that and not thinking about your mom and/or sister.

I knew this girl who looked exactly like a younger version of my mum that liked me. It was real awkward as to the point I couldn't look at her/talk to her.

No, I would not date anyone with the same name as my dad.

I could never date anyone with the same name as my DAD, weird!!!

Psst... I'm a dude.

My sis is engaged to a guy with the same name as my dad. Go figure.

Given how unlikely it is I for me I never thought about it.

I probably wouldn't

I also wouldn't date someone who had a name similar to one of my exes, I think I would find that too weird as well...

I don't think it would be an issue.....
because I agree with JaD and Eggyman

I call my mom mom and my dad dad....... so, it wouldn't be an issue for me.

Now that's weird...... I couldn't date anyone who looked like my dad. It would be freaky, more freaky than dating someone who had the same name as him.

I call my mom, mom and mommy but I still know her name and it just gives me an awkward feeling.
