Damsel in distress...No More?

But... WTH!!??? Peter threw the pumpkin bomb?! I like more the idea of being an allucination/dream

it makes sense that Peter threw the bomb...in the first trailer Harry is attacking Peter when, it would seem since he is grabbing for a wedding ring in mid air, he's about to propose to MJ...then He gets the symbiote and he goes crazy and "does what he wants because he has so much more power now" or something and goes after Harry.

"The panel that followed the trailer revealed one other semi-major plot point: at some point, Venom captures Mary Jane."

so much for my theory...while this kind of irritates me that once again MJ is getting kidnapped or "captured", it makes sense for the suspense and flow of these movies as everything is personal to Peter in some way...it makes for more emotion.

GREAT find SPIDER-X:up: . Guess that answers all the critics who said venom will only be around 5 min or screen time at the end. This is going to be very critical to the plot of the movie.

Yep. Yesterday someone asked Kirsten "Who was your favorite villain to be captured by in the movies?" Topher prodded and teased her and said, "Yeah...who was your favorite villain to be captured by? Hmm?" obviously trying to get her to say Eddie/Venom. She then said "Hey! You just gave away a huge secret! You can't do that!" Topher then said "Well...who would be your favorite villain to be captured by then?"

Well, even though I would've preferred no damsel in distress as I indicated earlier.... if its Venom, at least that comes with a good chance we'll get to see his classic first appearance from the end of ASM #299 in the movie, which would kick ass and maaaaaaybe, just maybe, even make up for the repitition. :o

Venom: Hi honey....I'm HOME!

i've been hoping that we'd get to see that scene in live action since the first Spider-Man movie. Such a great comic moment, pure sadistic Venom :venom:

Hell yes, that's the one.... even if it was just his very first appearance, that still is and probably always will be the definitive Venom moment to me.

I don't believe they ever said anything about Venom capturing MJ.

However, they showed several character posters, as you probably know. One with Peter ripping his shirt open, Harry holding a pumpkin bomb, and MJ in a black web. It's just a promotional photo and might not mean anything. It's not even a cool web. Like Gwen's was her sitting in a chair smiling. So that doesn't mean anything.

This is what they're basing that claim off of. It doesn't even look like a real web. So we'll see.

Actually like I said earlier...during the Q&A session when Topher insinuated that Venom captures MJ, she told him to hush because he just gave away a huge secret. It was by no means official, and they could've just been messing with our minds, but that's the tidbit that IGN is probably basing the claim off of, which is a little bit more substantial than just the promo picture IMO.

i was just thinking about about it. this whole "damsel in distress" thing has been played out in the last 2 films and i hope we don't get it with MJ in this one. and i think we might not have to worry about MJ being taken hostage in this one. and here's why:

Sandman seems like just a crook/
connection to uncle ben
...and i can't really see him pursuing spidey...i think spidey will just be stopping him from hurting people/stealing.

Harry would be the most likely candidate for going after MJ...but he seems too obsessed with Spider-Man's demise and he also cares very much for MJ...so i don't really see it happening.

and finally: VENOM, if all goes according to plan (a.k.a. the comics) he will stalk spidey, terrorising those close to him, but he has no reason to kidnap anyone because he can strike Spidey at any time! he just likes torturing his prey before he goes in for the kill.

i do see Gwen being the damsel to some extent one (i think she should bit the dust in SM3), which is ok to me as long as it's not MJ getting kidnapped.

this is all speculation...but it seems pretty solid to me.

What do you all think?

I would like the opposite to happen with Gwen. I think Bryce would sign on to a deal for another movie and kirsten wouldnt. So I would like if Sam went with the idea of switching deaths and instead of killing gwen they kill MJ which they probally wont do that but hey I can dream.

That comment kind of confused me. I thought what they were saying was, the interviewer was asking Kirsten what villain she would most LIKE to be kidnapped by. And Topher coughed because he wanted her to say that he was the person she would most LIKE to be kidnapped by (insinuating that he's the most attractive actor out of the people playing villains, or something) regardless of what happens in the plot. Very confusing.

And then Kirsten said he gave away something, which means that she IS kidnapped by Brock. (meaning Kirsten actually gave away the plot, not Topher)

I have a feeling a villian will capture Gwen .

And that MJ will get captured by VENOM, But Either Spidey or Harry will save her .

Yeah I think that's how it went - from AICN:

THE PANEL:

- The biggest slip at the panel come from Kirsten Dunst, who just loves to spit out spoilers. She was asked by a young girl which villain would she enjoy being kidnapped by the most. Kirsten "ummm..." and "aaahhh..."ed a few times. Topher cleared his throat, loudly. She goes, "You totally just gave something away!" The audience laughs and Topher repeats the question, "Who WOULD you want to be captured by?" Whoops. So, it's safe to assume Eddie or Venom abducts MJ in the movie. Thanks, Kirsten.

Well, this would explain MJ's poster released at Comic Con (she looks like she's trapped in some kind of webbing).

I don't see the problem in that; I mean, it'd make sense for Peter to try to save his fiancee, rather than his new gf (Gwen), right?

during all the filming reports, i seem to remember there was a scene someone reported where mj was in a cab with eddie and peter sees them, then it drives off quick and peter shouts after it??

Yeah,I am sick of the whole Damsel in distress
I won't a women that will be able to handle her self, she looks like a lady and kicks ass like a man

We're not all helpless
