It does sound like 'Danny Elfman light,' but I guess it's at a part in the movie where he doesn't have to go all out. The beginning reminds me of his Planet of the Apes soundtrack, which I love.

Friends and Foes on the other side is pretty awesome, and NOT because of the John Williams Superman theme nod.

Everyone here at this point knows I'm a huge BvS fan. I can't think of a single time Chip has ever been rude or condescending to me. The guy hated BvS and unlike a lot of the others that did, he's like the only guy hoping they retain stuff from it so its fans aren't left in the dust.

Iunno, feels like some of you might just be taking his sense of humor too literally.

AoD, I’m sorry if anything I said annoyed you. I just hate to see people not wanting to give this movie a chance because of all the obvious changes. That goes for everyone. I can be rough around the edges sometimes, but if you wanna talk it out, pm me and we can just chat. I’ll take a break too if it helps calm things down.

I can't think of a single time Chip has ever been rude or condescending to me.

Chip has never been rude to me either. He's one of the few guys who hated the prev movies but we still have civil discussions. But I found a few of his posts a bit condescending and loaded today. Like this one :

He jokes around and stuff, but from what I've seen from him, he doesn't seem like the type of person to intentionally insult, act condescending or passive aggressive to people who have different opinions than him, which is more than I can say for some very few particular users who pop in the sub-forum from time to time to do just that.

Though I guess his sense of humor's not for everyone.

Anyway, back to Danny Elfman.

I haven’t read anyone’s responses to the previewed Elfman tracks, so take what I say as independent from outside influence.

These themes sound very generic to me. Obviously Friends and Foes has portions of the Williams theme. But more than that, I can hear elements of the Spider-Man theme (e.g. around 2 minutes into Friends and Foes), and I can hear elements of the Batman ‘89 theme (e.g. around 50 seconds to 1 minute into Hero’s theme). It feels like something I’ve heard before.

It seems to me like Elfman has a preconceived idea of what generic light and dark superhero themes sound like, and sort of mashed those elements into a collage to generate a theme for a team of heroes.

It feels lazy to me. JMHO.

I do like the end of Hero’s theme, though.

I, however, am a dick. Feel free to throw your bile and vitriol my way, when I say that inclusion of the Williams theme makes me want to see this movie more, and improves the chances of actually seeing proper Superman on screen for the first time in the DCEU.

Depends on how instrinsically linked the two things are to you. I’m an old fart, so that music is as much part of Superman as the cape. It simply just isn’t quite SUPERMAN without it...

I think the reaction from the pro-Snyder camp in regards to the two Elfman tracks is, quite frankly, overreaching and appalling.

For me, it looks like Elfman is paying homage to Zimmer and XL but charting his own path. The argument that "XL should've stayed!" is beyond petty at this stage since the film is in the can.

You might love Elfman's music in the film itself, please keep an open mind!

Yup, agreed.

The Superman was saw in the last couple of movies was no less a proper Superman, just a different interpretation.

Not "your Superman"? Well, if your Superman is Christopher Reeves', it's not supposed to. I for one am happy that we got to see something more in vein with the harder edged Superman I read in the comics throughout my childhood (I'm a '90s kid, so post-crisis is where my heart's at in DC Comics) on the big screen... And I AM a fan Richard Donner's movie!

I'm sure Danny Elfman will knock it out of the park, though. He's holding back on the officially released track on Youtube, but he's pretty much on fire in "Friends and Foes".

What I'm not too fond of, though, are some of the seemingly rushed shots from the reshoots, which simply don't look good and stick out, but that's off-topic in here. I hope my brain won't pick up on the shots from the reshoots when I see the movie in theaters. It has done so on other movies.

As someone who loved what Zimmer and Junkie brought to the table before, I think Hero's Theme is okay and I'm loving the hell out of Friends Or Foes.

So it plays on the nostalgia card. Which is something I never really get, not even within the confines of one continuous story and universe (referring to the "Star Wars: Force Awakens"), much less when it comes to the different film universe.

I mean, I don't have a problem with someone liking it because it reminds them of earlier films they grew up with, I just find it to be a lazy and cheap way on composer's part to encourage a positive reaction from the audience.

And that's fine. But like you said, it depends. I don't like the idea of diminishing any iteration of the character because they all have their fans. There's no such thing as a "proper" Superman. Just the one you prefer.

For me, I find the Williams stuff to be a bit corny, but it's fine if it's not overpowering. I didn't care much about Superman until MoS though, so those are the themes that resonate with me most. But if they rebooted Supes down the line, I'd still rather them do something different.

But that's just me.

I like the Heroes theme. Its growing one me. The 2nd one not so much. You like it?

Some people get their hang up with the Williams' 1978 Superman theme and they cannot leave it well alone back in the 1970s. That theme was a hugh part of my youth as I was very much a '70s dude. I have heard that themes hundreds of time in the late '70s and early '80s alone.

But this is 2017, a new Superman is beckoning and I reaallly don't want to spend time on that theme for the sheer nostalgia trip. Do something a bit diferrent with less pandering to the Williams theme.
