Justice League Danny Elfman Scoring Justice League - Part 1

That's a pretty funny thing to say when Marvel's current outing has the most unorthodox director for any big superhero movie and is more unique in feel than most. Especially in this thread about scores since Mothersbaugh's score is easily more unique than anything that was in MoS or BvS.

Breh, this has nothing to do with what I said. Stop trying to start some stupid ass fan war.

It clearly does. You brought up Marvel and how they are supposedly less interesting so don't whine about someone replying to that.

That you now talk about fan wars just exposes your original view.

Jesus f***ing Christ, can everyone just effin' chill for once?!

Scribe, don't respond to peeps with strong opinions. Will spare you brain cells, bro.

Adhesive, think of better ways to word your posts that don't come off as antagonistic.

Its so weird seeing people calling the legend that is Danny Elfman a "generic composer" while Junkie has done the most generic work in the most generic movies, and that's coming from someone who loved his Mad Max score, even his Deadpool score was underwhelming besides like, one or two tracks.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

I see all these new guys with under 500 posts popping up lately with a lot of them having strong opinions :hmm

I said that because they have gotten less interesting. One movie that I haven't seen isn't going to suddenly change my opinion on that. And what I said was regarding studios making movies with a $1 bil gross in mind, something Marvel AND DC are both guilty of doing. You started bringing up how some Marvel composer is better than a DC one and I don't care at all about some stupid fanboy pissing contest.

I think both can be interesting and still make a ton of money. All studios want to make as much money as they can, including Fox. Especially since the latter messed with Deadpool's budget even during production.

And I didn't say he was better but that he had made a more unique score than what people are asking for now when they don't like what they've heard for the JL score.

So what was doing was just saying that I don't think wanting to make money changes anything, and I just pointed out that the timing of your comment was a bit funny when one of the best examples of that is out.

Jesus. All this commotion over 2 tracks from a score that hasn't been fully released yet? I'm reserving judgement until the full score comes out and I can listen to it, but so far, "Heroes" is pretty generic, but "Friend or Foe" is classic Elfman and it sounded great.

No one's a bigger fan of Zimmer and Junkie's work on the DCEU scores than me and I really wish they were still doing the score for this movie but it is what it is. Let's reserve judgement until we can listen to the score in its entirety guys.

Elfman has done some great work in the past, but he hasnt impressed me in a long time. I'm not going to give his latest material a pass just because he delivered great material decades ago.

As for Junkie, his BvS work was meh.

WB needs to get Ramin Djawadi to score a DC film. His GOT scores are :hmr:.

I think this issue is you need to hear the music in context of the movie. It might work depending on where in the film it's used.

Exactly. It might not work on its own for some people, but in the context of the movie that can very well change.

ok so this track..... im guessing is the music we hear when the credits are rolling, because thats how this is coming across to me. its not bad, but its also nothing memorable, and thats kinda sad specially this is coming from such a prestigious pedigree of a composer. then again everybody was brought on board pretty last minute and i couldnt blame Elfman really.

however....

this is something. sure it really plays on the nostalgia factor but THIS is the quality im looking for . heck this is the sound i was hoping for for BvS way back then.

i dont know why they would release the Hero track as a musical sample of the movie when its pretty bland. you'd think something called "Hero" would be a bit more memorable? idk. then again looking at the track listing, there seems to be a separate track for the Justice League itself. im HOPING that that blows our socks off.

also #UnpopularOpinion: i wouldnt mind Elfman redefining / coming up with a new Wonder Woman track. her BvS/ WW theme is bearable to me, but its not really my thing. sometimes it grates on my nerves (not a good thing) and thats saying something for a rocker-at-heart person such as myself. it certainly has plenty of room to evolve to something better.

I actually dig that "Hero" score.

I really and thoroughly enjoyed the "Friends and Foes" track.

I understand many are crying that Zimmer/XL aren't a part of this film and their lack of presence can be felt, but I think Elfman is a great choice. We need a fun movie soundtrack for a film like JL. I don't understand what's so bad about throwing in motifs from the Williams Superman score or the Keaton Batman theme, especially if Elfman has openly said he's going to use the WW theme that XL/Zimmer created. It's all about perspective. Knowing what I know about the film and hearing what I've heard about it for a few months now, I can't imagine anyone else but Elfman doing this film's score.

The film will be about these characters and a celebration of all their iterations.

I guess some people will have a problem with that, tho.

I don't hate the sound of that.

Elfman's style feels more Thomas Newmanish in his recent scores. Though Goosebumps felt more classically Elfman than most. [YT]vLkW6Dz-FOQ[/YT]

I really like parts of Friends and Foes (I think it hits its stride at the 1:45 mark). Heroes doesn't even feel like movie music to me..it feels like video game menu music. I like the part when you hear the glockenspiel (that part feels vintage Elfman) but the rest of the track feels like it could be tossed into any "epic" trailer. Like it's production music or something.

I played "Friends and Foes" once again and part from 1:50 to 2:10 is definitely music from BvS, I just can't remember from which track.

I'm not calling the man Danny Elfman a "generic composer." I'm calling these most recent tracks generic. There's critiquing one excerpt of a man's work, and then there's denigrating a man and all his work, and these are not the same.

Furthermore, criticizing Elfman does not imply anything about Junkie. I'm not a big fan of his BvS work--I think the best parts of that score were Zimmer's.

Ooh. I hadn't heard Friends and Foes yet. I quite liked that.

Thank you.

I do hope it works better for me in context.
