The bank robbery scene should have had Zimmer's WW theme on full blast. How badass would that have been and imagine how much that would have amplified that whole action sequence.

If so, it's better than Danny Elfman's score on the whole, albeit I thought his "Hero's theme" was solid and didn't sound reminiscent to his other works, unlike most of his other tracks in the entire album.

As for Junkie XL's score here, I think the beginning is not much, I only like the ending. Sounds like trailer music though. Nothing I could probably memorize though.

I loved listening to the score as a standalone body of work.
It was that scene, though, that I realized they made a mistake.

I think overall, Elfman just wasn't a fit for this movie plain and simple. His style and sensibilities were not in mind when this movie was made. You could literally tell Zack filmed this movie while listening to a Hans Zimmer soundtrack. Elfman's just doesn't mix with the visuals nor the action. And if I had to wager a guess I don't think Elfman felt particularly inspired scoring this, it sounds like felt bored and wanted his paycheck. He did OK with the Flash's motif but thats about it, did Aquaman and Cyborg even have motifs?

Indeed. The studio threw out rhetoric like "we want a more traditional feel, so we want a more traditional score," blah, blah, blah.

Call Elfman's uninspiring score whatever, but the worst thing about it is that it sounds very dated. Elfman's too consistent, for his own good. The music would be perfect in an 80s or 90s film, but after hearing what we got from Zimmer for a decade, and Gregson-Williams' Wonder Woman score, bringing Elfman was on literally a huge step backward.

Elfman works when he's scoring movies that have that quirky otherworldly tone to them. He worked well with Spider-man too and that had a similar quirky vibe to it like Burton's Batman. Zack's more gritty comicbook universe wasnt a match fot him.

I was opposed to the recycling of old themes in the movie. That was a silly idea to go with. I could be wrong, but I think it was Joss' idea.

It's weak in its new arrangement. What was once a screaming battle cry of distorted cello on top of thundering percussion has lost all it's power. It's just a cheesy, overly-traditional orchestral thing now, all the personality sucked from it. It's a perfect example of how the melody is only so important; the presentation of that melody can make all the difference.

I mean, look, its all subjective at the end of the day but I like my music to enhance the movie. I like music that pumps you up during an exciting action sequence, music that tugs on your heart strings during somber moments or heartfeld moments, music that has you leaving the theater humming the theme song. I just felt none of that with this score, it felt like elevator music, just....there and did nothing to enhance the movie.

But that is my opinion.

Yep! All these tracks (not to mention the scores each cue is derived from) belong in a Tim Burton movie.

I know. I wish people would be fully informed on an issue before commenting. I was going to respond to some of these posts, but I'm tired of repeating myself. You'd think people would get bored posting the same criticisms again and again.

I'm curious, for those who don't like the score, how many times have you listened to the full album? Did you give it a fair shot with an open mind, even if it wasn't what you wanted? When I first listened to the Ragnarok score, I really didn't like it because I wanted a more traditional sounding orchestral score. But after throwing away my preconceptions, once I listened to it a few times (and after seeing the movie), it started to grow on me and now I quite like several of the tracks. And just for me personally, many of my favorite scores I didn't enjoy on my first listens. It usually takes me at least 6 or 7 full playthroughs to get used to a score, and many more after that for it to truly sink in. Scores like MI5 and TFA were my favorites of 2015, but it took awhile for me to appreciate them. Hell, at one point (before seeing the film) I even started to hate MoS' score (after initially enjoying it).

But then I can't understand preferring (or even liking) the fake Junkie JL tracks that have been posted here. Different strokes I guess.
