Justice League Danny Elfman Scoring Justice League - Part 2

Just some suites, I would think. Maybe a couple of cues at most. Editing wasn't done at that time, and you can't spot and score a film without the picture locked. He might've had some ideas, some sounds or themes he liked, but nothing finalized. No recordings with musicians would've been done yet.

And I still can't get over how toxic this damn thread is. I can understand being disappointed about Junkie's firing. I can understand Elfman's score not being to some peoples' tastes, but there's no conversation going on here, just hyperbolic ranting & raving. And these personal attacks against the composer himself are simply uncalled for. There's no point attempting to discus the score here when everyone is so intent on being negative and calling the worst thing ever.

I agree there's no need to attack the man but I think its stemming from how frustratingly bland the score is and its literally everything we all feared the moment he was hired. I think a lot of us gave him the benefit of the doubt when he started talking about how enthusiastic he was about "bringing themes back into films" and reusing his Batman theme. It sounded like Elfman was inspired and was gonna inject some real energy into the movie....and then it ends of being one of the most boring, generic, uninspired scores of 2017. Even when he does use his Batman theme, its only hinted at and muted.

See, I just can't understand calling this one of the worst scores of the year. It does enough interesting thing to make it a fun listen, and there are plenty of terrible scores this year that are much worse than this. I'd easily take JL's score over Suicide Squad's and Wonder Woman's. But that's just individual tastes, I suppose.

I think the biggest detriment to the score was how low it was buried in the mix. It's hard to appreciate it when you can barely hear it over the SFX. Parts of MoS and BvS had the same problem, too. You can barely make out music during Superman & Zod's final battle.

The main reason I had interest in seeing this movie in theaters was for Elfman’s score. I thought Elfman’s score was effective in the movie. Unfortunately it wasn’t anything special, but again the movie wasn’t either. So I really can’t blame Elfman. I automatically dug Elfman’s scoring approach during the opening logos. It was a breath of fresh air hearing this kind of grand orchestral score in a DCEU movie. I had a grin on my face hearing Williams’ Superman theme briefly in a pivotal moment. Also hearing Elfman needle drop his Batman theme was also nice. I couldn’t comprehend some of the themes/motifs Elfman composed but I dug his motif for the Flash (particularly during the slow mo moments). It’s a shame he couldn’t come up with a more engaging theme for the Justice League, but I didn’t find any of the superheroes that engaging (as themselves or as a team) in the movie. Even though I liked what I heard in the movie. It was still a waste of Elfman’s talents that could’ve been better utilized in another DC movie e.g. Justice League: Dark, Batgirl, etc.

Yep. I can't help but wonder what Elfman could've done with an actual good movie, something that could inspire him. But with JL, not only was the script not up to the task, but the visual were very underwhelming too. The first Snyder movie that I found ugly (and that solely due to him, the DP he chose and the aspect ratio).

Lol underwhelming visuals caused the underwhelming score? Okay....

I doubt the film being better would have likely inspired him more. This is what the producers want, and he delivered that for them. Personally I thought the score was fine though.

Hey guys,

Just to clear it up - none of the surfacing “leaked” #JusticeLeague scores or tracks online are mine.

Onward and upwards!

Love,
Tom

Knew it. That one "leaked" track sounded too much like generic trailer music, not to mention the drums were laughably weak.

I was thinking some parts of "Tuesday" would have been great for when Superman [BLACKOUT]is just revived and is fighting the league.[/BLACKOUT] Say the part from 1.50 onwards. So menacing.

And imagine the beginning of the track you posted over Clark talking with Lois, and then taking off, collecting the suit and then flying to Russia. Cool nod to MOS as well.
Yep, @7:50 "We Have A Plan" for [BLACKOUT]rebirth of Supes[/BLACKOUT], "Tuesday" for the fight at Heroes Park and then @2:25 "Sent Here for a Reason" [BLACKOUT]when Lois comes[/BLACKOUT].

The music alone would've changed the feel of the movie, never mind restoring the old footage and removing the unnecessary quips.

As much as I hated the score, what makes me so angry is Elfman saying there's only ever been one Batman theme, his. His is the only music that belongs to Batman and they should have been using it ever since. It blows my mind that they wanted to disregard everything Hans and junkie did for this "world" and go back to that music. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Then again, nothing about this movie makes sense to me. I know it doesn't mean anything to anyone, but WB won't get a dime from me if Elfman is the composer in the future.

But, like junkie said, it's time to move on.

i thought elfman's scores for the burton batman and spiderman movies were great.

avengers and JL soundtrack are crap. just phoning it in and collecting a paycheck. and from his recent interviews he comes like a prick.

so the 1990s-early 2000s me could never believe i can say something like this now - but f*** danny elfman.

Was really disappointed in the score, should have used more MS and BvS stuff

His nails need trimming. Like this movie. :o

Its funny. The only moment when the score of this movie felt right was when the "Krypton" theme started playing. It felt...natural.

Yerp. it was one of the few times I left like I was in the MoS/BvS world still.

To be honest, I didn't even notice the Mos/Bvs score in this.

The one thing I'm most p***ed off about was the use of the John Williams theme. I didn't listen to any leaks or snippets of the score prior to seeing the film, as I didn't want it spoiled for me.

He could have used it
at the end, during the shirt rip
or during his return to action
fighting Steppenwolf

but no, he uses it when

he's beating 7 bell's out of the league

Not impressed in the slightest. I don't know if this has been mentioned before or if anyone else feels the same? But that is one thing I can't forgive!

This.

The score for JL was really poor in general & it didn't feel complementary for what was happening on screen.

I did like classic Batman/Superman themes being incorparated into the score but even that can't save it. WW's theme should have been getting blasted through the speakers through the majority of her introductory action scene.. as I was watching I was actually waiting for it to start.

me from a year ago wouldn't have even fathomed the possibility that they weren't going to use the MOS theme at any point in the JL movie...
