DareDevil Movie: Producers fault NOT Mark Steven Johnson

The fact still remains that MSJ directed the scenes of DD with lighting so dark (or confusing) that you can hardly tell what is going on. Thats what ruined it (theater AND DC) for me.

Yeah there are similarities here and there but the scope of what they do and the tone of their comics is different.

Totally agree with that. Daredevil is such a dynamic fighter and was totally shortchanged.

..do you know if there ever will be Directors Cuts to those films?

There is supposed to be one of FF coming out, X-Men will never have one IMO because Bryan Singer seemingly hates directors cuts.

Yes, because Burton added elements of fantasy and whimsy into Batman, with the Penguin and Catwoman, armies of penguins, the Joker, etc. Daredevil is about street crime, and has to be more 'realistic' to an extent or it doesn't work. Burton touched on street crime in the first Batman movie, but by the time he really got into it he was doing Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera and Metropolis with it.

The studio hurt it by forcing the lousy theatrical cut, MSJ should be blamed for thinking DD had anything to do with anime and that those weird anime fight sequences were in any way appropriate. I still liked the theatrical cut and like the DC a lot.

Yeah the Producers take most of the blame, but MSJ needs to bear some of it, too. The dialogue was weak in places ("That's th C Train!") and the fights were poorly designed and edited.
I did not mind that's "the C train" because it actually sounded like something a real vigilante would say. It's not overly clever. However I will say that a lot of the dialogue, especially between him and Elektra, was weak.

It was a good line at "see that light, thats not heaven". I was like, hey.. cool line. Then he paused and announced "THATS THE C-TRAIN". Oh really? Killed it. It was still a sweet scene though.

All I got to say is in the Director's Cut Coolio was in the movie, JMS is ametuer at best in my eyes. He didn't have the balls or vision for a rated "R" Daredevil movie and Ghostrider is looking really pedestrian (Yeah,Yeah the bike is cool, but I'm getting a really campy vibe from the movie.)

Steve Norrington was born to direct a Ghostrider movie, but Sean Connery and FOX made sure that'll never happen.

Get your facts straight!!!

COLUMBIA pictues is doing Ghost Rider NOT FOX.

So go blame COLUMBIA.

I think deemar was referring to the the crap that Stephen had to endure with LXG.
He clashed with both Fox and Connery on the movie and afterwards decided to stop making movies altogether

Daredevil isn't a cold, heartless bastard. Totally out of character for him.
What made that scene worse was that it was one of the first filmed, meaning the cowl still had those stupid flaps on the back. :down

The DC was rated R..wasnt it???

Can you imagine if Daredevil was directed by Tim Burton?
Burton's style of darkness and Daredevil's style of darkness aren't the same. I feel the same way about Batman. Burton's Batman was pretty good, but it felt it was too stylized and a little campy.

You know, I'm going to watch the directors cut of DD and see if I like it better than the original version, but I just can't see how watching a longer version of a music video with miscast Affleck, too dark action scenes, bad wire work and Colio will greatly change my mind.

Exectly, MARK STEVEN JOHNSON is a brillient writer & director, and did a superb job with DAREDEVIL and i think if its sequel happens sometime in future then it will be made by some other studio instead "20Tth century FOX"

"I WANT DAREDEVIL-2"

Hi. I just saw the theatrical version of Daredevil for the first time in years. The first time that I saw it I hated it, but tonight I thoroughly enjoyed it. I mean, it's no Batman Begins or Spider-Man 2, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to buy it but have been reading about how much better the director's cut is. Could someone please list the difference between the theatrical version and the director's cut? And could someone tell me why the director's cut is rated R?

I could just post a list, but it really wouldn't do it justice. This isn't just a few extra scenes that add depth to the characters. The entire meaning of the story is different. Plot-wise the DC is much more about Kingpin and less about Elektra, who is now a relatively minor character. As for the R Rating, I really think that the MPAA went overboard on that one, as there isn't really anything that deserves it. Even the director didn't really understand the rating.

Y'ever wonder how the word got out on the Kingpin?
Yeah, the Director's Cut goes into that.

Story wise the director's cut was sooooo much better than the original. BUT the movie still suffered from some problems, such as:

1. dialogue: corny at times. okay, often.
2. music: all that stuff was horrible. rarely should a superhero film have such heavy use of regular songs. none of the greats do: batman begins, x1, x2, superman...
3. effects: the cgi looks very dated already. poor, poor videogame quality. a shame.

If those three things had been corrected it would be a stellar movie.

Yup. It was Gary Foster. Aaall his doing...And he's working on Ghost Rider...*sssssiiiigh*

And I liked the C-Train line. :(

Yeah, me too. There are some other lines and scenes I despise, but that certainly isn't one of them.
