Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

Too chim in, I always thought the Dardevil comic books had the best writing and most esoteric and noir themes of any of the Marvel books. I don't know the writers, but I could look it up.

Also, if the powers that be won't do a Black Panther flick soon, maybe have him team up with Daredevil - seems like a natural fit.

I think they should go with Richard Fisk as the Big Bad. Portray him as some sort of Lucifer/Light Yagami-type figure within the criminal underworld, to further juxtapose him to the Catholic, devil garb-wearing DD.

I like that idea.
I was thinking it would be interesting if the film explored the irony of a Catholic man using devil imagery as a vigilante to scare criminals. Thoughts?

They sort of flirted with that in the theatrical cut with Father Everett's "What the Hell, Hero?" speech to Matt.

Sorry, Michael Clarke Duncan was just not a very good Kingpin. The movie was a disappointment yet people are still in denial about it.

The movie was OK. I liked it alot when DD was in costume but hated as soon as Afleck showed up.

MCD was GREAT as Kingpin. Kingpin I believe in the book was really drawn poorly for what he was listed as being in the Marvel Universe handbook.
Here is his bio:

  • Kingpin has no superhuman powers. However, he is as strong and durable as it is possible for a man of his height, weight, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise to be, and he is a very large man (over six and a half feet tall). His stamina is likewise honed to the virtual pinnacle of human ability. He has remarkable agility and dexterity for a man of his size.
If Kingpin is supposed to be a normal human then there is no way he would look the way he was drawn and be in perfect physical condition. I think the perfect marriage of reality and the paradox of the comic image was MCD.

As far as the DD costume I also think it needs to be streamlined a bit to look more athletic like Spider-man's was. Below is still like the original but less cumbersome.

Someone take the Armor-All away from Matt the poor fellow is getting carried away with it and someone please tell him that half mask looks stupid.

I wonder how a Spider-Man "honeycomb" suit would look on Daredevil. He might be able to make the claim that he got paid for defending this crazy inventor in a new fabric made from "unstable molecules" and it can absorb alot of damage but looks like spandex.

I agree.

Someone take the Armor-All away from Matt the poor fellow is getting carried away with it and someone please tell him that half mask looks stupid.

I disagree. What do you mean by "half-mask"?

Why would Matt Murdock be wearing a radioactive suit?

Well according to the comics all these suits that the x-man, fantastic four, Avengers all seem to be wearing suits made of "unstable molecules". They use this to explaine why human torches uniform does not burn, Mr. Fantastic can stretch in his, Susans Storm's turning invisibl;e with hers. As far as it being radioactive I have never reead that being an issue.

I want Garrett Hedlund for the role personally.

Garrett H = Iron Fist a ka young kung fu millionaire

Daredevil needs some who looks more mature, being a seasoned lawyer and all. Besides Cooper has more beautiful eyes.

I never understood that. Unstable molecules implies radioactive decay, to my understanding. Then again, Stan Lee didn't too much of a **** about the harm of radiation.

I personally have no specific actor who I want to play Matt Murdock/Daredevil. I just want an actor who could bring the right gravitas to the role, and someone who can play a character who is both a Catholic lawyer and a vigilante who uses devil iconography against criminals, much as Christian Bale nailed both the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne and the dark vigilante Batman in the Batman films.

DareDevil: Born Again Cast

Daredevil/Matt Murdock - Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine) - I wanted someone who could be a bit more youthful and lighthearted to emphasis the brutalness of what Kingpin does to him.

Ben Urich - Bryan Cranston

Sister Mary - Judi Dench

Nuke - John Cena (usually I wouldn't suggest him for any role but washing my car, and not to his face because he would beat me mercilessly, but Nuke is a pretty dumb, dimwitted, pill popping freak pro wrestler army dude, so I think this would be an ideal fit)

Kingpin - Stephen Marcus

Karen Paige - Lizzy Caplan

Foggy Nelson - Jason Segel (He's lost a lot of weight I'm told, but he fits my vision of Foggy. Albeit a lot taller, I think Foggy is earnest but funny, and that's what I see in Jason)

Glorianna O'Brien - Rachel Weisz (the character is great, and needs someone like this for it)

I found concept art for the 2003 Daredevil movie by Warren Manser at this website:
http://www.warrenmanser.com/WarrenManser.com/PORTFOLIO_M/Pages/DAREDEVIL.html
Included are drawings of Daredevil costumes (in red and also in black, curiously, and even stranger, some with cowl with an exposed face), Bullseye, and Elektra (many of a costume much more like the comics). Hopefully the Daredevil concepts can provide some ideas for a new costume for Daredevil (if you didn't like the movie's costume).

The black ones look cool, but I'd rather not have Daredevil wear them.

I don't like the one that starts the third row's shade of red. The one that starts the fourth row would look cool for a video game. I don't like the faceless ones. I like the rest.

I hope this gets going soon.. hopefully some comics-villains to fight besides Kingpin..
