DareDevil

I loved the darker art on Dark Nights but haven't had the money to pick it up. I might try it out on a slower week.

They quickly make nice, and the Surfer let's Matt tool around town on his board.

Daredevil riding the Surfer's board was hilarious. I can't blame him for wanting to do something that cool. I also loved how they showed how both guys see things. Waid keeps knocking it out of the park, and in his third year it's getting close to being my favorite Daredevil run. He's up there with Miller, Bendis, and Brubaker now, and it's hard to say which run is my favorite because all of them are so damn good.

Waid's has been my favorite run for a while now. Mainly because I thought Daredevil was a boring, gloomy jerk before his run.

I'm surprised the quality has stayed as high as it has in Waid's run. He came out of the gate hard, so I expected him to wear out quickly. But Mark Waid is Mark ****ing Waid, and the book is just as good now as it was when it started.

Mark Waid doesn't usually wear out for me. He seems to either knock it out of the park from the start and keep knocking it out of the park, or he just does nothing for me right from the start.

Something I've noticed about Waid is that his artists affect his writing so much for me. During his FF run, when 'Ringo was drawing it, I couldn't get enough.

But when Porter was on it--and it wasn't even Porter's best--I really didn't care.

Waid's run proves if anything that DD isn't a 1 dimension character. He doesn't have to be dark to succeed. Hopefully other writers are paying attention.

which we are lucky for, considering every damn writer tried to make his life even more miserable after born again. Just like most of them tried to make teh darker and grittier in each batman story after tdkr.

That's a bit of a gloss over, I think. Brubaker and Bendis gave some compelling melodrama along with the crap in Murdock's life. I enjoy swashbuckling DD, but tortured soul is great too.

I enjoyed Bendis and Brubaker's work, but in the end, when you think about it (and it became much worse with Diggle), it was too much "my life coucln't get crappier... oh wait, it just became worse".

Diggle was doing fine until Shadowland's reveal as to why Matt was doing what he was doing. It was the worst plot twist of all time.

I didn't like anything in Diggle's Run, but Shadowland and Daredevil Reborn were especially bad.

He did those issues where DD went to Japan to meet with the other leaders of The Hand. Those were interesting. DD Reborn was a pretty solid story.

The problem with Shadowland was it took Matt way too far over the edge by flat out murdering Bullseye and having him possessed by a ninja demon no one has ever heard of. It all fell flat.

Actually, The Beast of The Hand was a major plot point in Elektra: Assassin. Which is why I didn't really mind the whole possession thing in Shadowland.

Phew, it's been a while since I read Shadowland. My problem, if I recall correctly, was just the random and abrupt defeat of The Beast.

"Oh noes, he's invincible." *everyone knocked back*

"Matt...you need to kill yourself." *Dies but doesn't, on redemption quest*

I found it to be an interesting concept in the ongoing tragic life of Matt and I actually stand by the Bullseye murder, but it just didn't payoff well.

I think the execution of shadowland was laughable. And Reborn was nothing more than a rehash of Nocenti's run, and it was really boring and cliche.

The first part of his run wasn't that bad though.

So I have volume 1 and 2 of a Frank Miller collection (both of which can still be bought new) but for some reason the third and last volume is out of print? What's up with that?
It's making me crazy.

It depends on what issues were collected in that volume.

In other news, it sounds like Chris Samnee is possibly no longer on Daredevil :(

I'm having trouble finding exact confirmation on what's going on. Bleeding Cool reported that he is not doing the art for #33. Samnee himself posted on his site in late Sept that he was behind on work and had to cancel an appearance he was doing in St. Louis.

I hope this doesn't mean he quit the book for good. :csad::csad::csad:

That would suck, but given the quality of the art so far, it wouldn't necessarily be catastrophic. Paulo Rivera or Marcos Martin could always come back, or they could get someone new who's also good. I'll wait until I see a solicitation with Rob Liefeld or Greg Land as the artist before I start panicking. :oldrazz:

Oh, I'm not worried.....just kinda saddened. I think he's doing an outstanding job.

I don't see the 2 guys you mentioned coming to the book for reasons even more disparaging.....Marvel seems to love those guys (especially Land) and would rather put them on a "bigger" book. Basically, I feel that Marvel doesn't care about this book as much as it does other books. Sad to say but I think there's truth in it.

Clay Mann, the guy that was formerly doing Gambit, is now out there. If Samnee truly is gone, I would LOVE for him to be on the book.
