Never did pick up the vanilla game. Still curious about the franchise, so I'm tempted.

Hmmm I will wait to see how much the graphics have improved. But cool that they are doing that.

You should play the first Dark Sous or Demon's Souls if possible. I don't think the sequel would give the best first impression of the series.

For people that have had problems getting into the Souls series I'd say this is a good start for them. It's not easier per se, but it is more accessible. I had a friend that I finally got into it, but it was because of DS2 I tried that with DS1 with him and he could not do it. Dark Souls 2 I think is a good impression however, it is still a superb game.

I do agree DS was the best one however. I would love to see that hit PS4 as well. The original DS had some real frame rate issues on consoles in a few areas, it would be nice to play them again on PS4. I remember Blighttown and New Lando Ruins really suffered from framerate issues. Funny because Demon's Souls and DS2 never had those problems for me.

I just said that because I thought the general concensus is that, while not a bad game per se, Dark Souls II is the worst one. Uglier, worse combat, disappointing boss fights, etc. I've heard the DLC is excellent though.

You know it's funny, the framerate problems in Dark Souls didn't bother me too much. It could get real rotten in Blighttown, no doubt about it, but for me at least it was only in a couple small areas.

Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls though, was much, much worse for me personally. In that open swampy area, I swear to god the framerate slowed down to single digits.

I thought the combat was great. The art was not as good as some of the others but it was not "ugly". Compared to the other two it's not at the same level I agree. But far from a bad game. For my friend it seemed more accessible to get into it. I really liked the boss fights in DS2. That's one area where I guess I will say they were not disappointing.

But I recommend to get all three ;)

Interesting about the framerates. You had no issues in New Lando Ruins? That area was bad for me. But Blighttown not only was the framerate an issue, it seemed even worse just due to the challenge of that area and how easy it was to fall to your death. At least Sens' Fortress never had framerate issues for me. That would have been a pain.

We'll have to agree to disagree there. When the took out the great lighting they showed in the trailers, it really had a big negative impact on the visuals of the game in my opinion. It didn't just negatively effect the graphics, but the gameplay as well. Prior to release they hyped up how "dark" the game was and how you would need the torches and such to get through many areas. Without the lighting, that aspect of the gameplay was completely neutered.

I had zero issues in New Londo Ruins. Blighttown was the only area where the framerate was noticeably bad, and even then I don't know if other people exaggerate how bad it is or if, for whatever reason, my particular experience was better than average, but I never found it to have an impact on the gameplay. I pretty much breezed through Blighttown every time.

Hm, well, being a bit more accessible sounds good to me. It'll give a better idea of how I like the games, plus with this I'll get all the DLC stuff as well, so it'll be a bigger package overall (unless DS2 is lighter on content or something). And, hell, I may not even get it still. I want to check them out on one level, but I honestly don't have hours upon hours to dedicate to video games, which apparently is the type of commitment you need for these Souls games.

Hard to do when it hasnt been released yet

eta: Oh I guess you are in Europe?

yes, it was released yesterday, I didn't know it wasn't outside yet of europe.

I feel like Demon's Souls was better than DS2 at least, haven't played the first Dark Souls.

why do you say that? Ive heard that several times

Demon's souls is the only one I played so far. I bought it last week for 5 bucks on the psn. I'm loving the atmosphere. It makes me want to play DS2 and bloodborne.

Even though I've never tried the series, and have trepidation about trying them since they are such time sinks, I probably would have gotten Bloodbourne. Not interested per say in the setting, but it's really different, and it seemed to have a bit of a faster pace than the Souls games from what I've seen. As shallow as it sounds, another part of why I've passed on these games are the setting, the medieval/high fantasy stuff just doesn't do it for me for some reason.

it's not shallow. It's a matter of personal taste.

I'm not 100% sure to be honest, I think the best way I can describe it is that Demon's Souls felt a lot neater and more polished. DS2 was good, but it just didn't seem to have the same quality I feel Demon's Souls had.

Something that frustrated me about DS2 is at times certain enemies felt unbalanced, like they were cheaply able to kill you. Demon's Souls was brutally tough, but it always felt like a change in tactics or being more conservative in attack could help and you could win. DS2 somewhat frequently felt like they didn't make it difficult or challenging, they made it cheap and that was supposed to be seen as "difficult".

I might also just be biased because I played Demon's Souls first, I like the Nexus setup better than the more open world vibe, but that's just preference so no slight on DS2. I enjoyed both, but Demon's was just more enjoyable for me overall. Another aspect is Demon's Souls was shorter, DS2 felt a bit like it was almost too long, but that's just a silly nitpick.

Dark Souls 3 screenshots, rumored gameplay details leak

First images and rumored gameplay details for From Software's Dark Souls 3 — reportedly making an appearance at this year's E3 — appear to have leaked a bit early. According to a video released by The Know, Dark Souls 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC next year and will introduce a few new gameplay concepts.

Ok. Dark Souls 1 is my favorite game of the last-gen. Dark Souls 2 was a big disappointment for me. It felt like a poor version of the first game. Kinda like a mediocre fan-fic. Mediocre animations, mediocre level design, mediocre lore... Yeah. I didn't like it (I respect those who do like it, however).

So now there's Dark Souls 3 (apparently) and I just can't feel excited about it, even with Miyazaki's supposed involvement. I'd rather get a new IP (or spiritual sucessor), maybe similar to Dark Souls, but with new elements, new aesthetic, new mechanics, etc. Right now, it feels like they're milking something that was never supposed to be a franchise.

I am dancing around the room right now.

Dark Souls II was not a bad game, I really actually loved it, just not as good as the others. And the Dark Souls II DLC that the same team made, is actually some of the best Souls stuff out there. I think they learned a lot from their first go around. And we just got a brand new IP (Bloodborne). I'm completely fine with a sequel.

Honestly I want a sequel to Dark Souls , So I'm extremely excited.

A game developed by From Software not meant to be a franchise? I'm going to have to see the receipts on that one.

YES!
I'd heard rumors this was being announced at E3 and I'm super stoked.
I've been enjoying Bloodborne quite a bit but there's something about the Souls series that I just enjoy more.
