If you were a fan of Image Comics, as most of us were at one time but won't admit to nowadays, you know about Darkchylde. I'm interested as I used to read the book. Hopefully it comes to light.

This is THE FIRST I'm hearing about this movie. Not that I followed the comic or anything, but I'm surprised thath the first news we're getting is this production image, showcasing WETA's work.

IMDB doesn't even have a listing for it, yet. Who's making this movie? Who's starring in it. The girl in the photo doesn't look like any actress I know.

Straight to video.

Oh and Randy Queen mustn't rank much higher than Rob Liefeld.

I don't know anything about the comic but from the news that has surrfaced about this movie and the first image I'm very much looking forward to this movie.

It's the comic book film project that went under your radar.

Randy Queen passed along this note to share with Newsarama readers about Darkchylde:

"Just wanted to give a heads up that the first filmic images have been captured of Darkchylde, based on the comic of the same name. I am intimately involved, as is 5 time Oscar Winner Richard Taylor (King Kong, Lord of the Rings) and Weta Workshop, and Dark Horse (Hellboy)."

"The story revolves around a very pretty girl's curse that allows her to transform into different creatures from her many nightmares. Ariel Chylde is a physical pandora's box, and these creatures borrow her blood and bones to hitchhike over to our world. Everytime Ariel changes, she sets a different horror creature free in her small southern town.

I am very passionate about what I think works and what hasn't over the years. We have the A list team, and our expressed goal is to produce an original, beautifully shot, atmospheric horror film, played very straight and very dark, ala a modern Carrie or Ridley Scott's Alien, with a wicked, sexy cool Underworld vibe. Our only wish is to create a film for the horror fans of the world to get excited about, so everyone please wish us luck!

"Promise to report more when able.

It would be on IMDB since a long time ago if the project was that solid. Or we'd even know who the director is, or who the cast is...
And from what I've seen, the only proof of the involvement of WETA is they made a Darkchylde collectible, nothing else.

Well, whoever that chick is, she's pretty smokin. I'll bet she got the job for having nice boobs and a good body to compliement the "wicked, sexy, cool Underworld vibe".

Hey I'm cool with that ;-) But I'm hoping the story is as awsome as it sounds. I like monster movies that have decent plots. Though B-movies are good too.

Yeah, as long as their not D-level. :) I like horror movies with decent plots as well. Hopefully, they don't go too far with the teen angst (like alot of teen horror movies).

So are we the only two who are looking forward to this movie? I thought for sure there would be some fans of this comic on here. I mean I'd love to know some more about this comic before seeing the movie.

Yeah, I agree. Nobody seems to be checking out this part of the forum as much, which is kind of odd seeing how there is a wider variety of topics to discuss here than the next Spider-man film, which will be at least 3 years away.
Besides, while I don't know a whole lot about these comics, I like some of the lesser known characters going to film since it seems producers are willing to take more risks by not trying to make it appeal to everyone and have a pg-13 rating no matter what.

Anyway, you might be able to download some Darkchyld comics on the net. I know there's lots of torrents out there from people who own the comic that might be able to provide some information on what to expect. If you like what you see, you can always order some off of Amazon.

Other than that article from Newsarama there's next to no info. about this pic even though there is supposedly some kind of production going down in New Zealand.

Ok did abit of digging on the internet and was able to come up with some pieces of info.

As we all know, the recent news article said Richard Taylor was attached to the project. From the info. on IMDB, it appears he's been involved in
in the special effects, art dept., make-up dept., costume designer, visual effects mainly in movie production and has notably been involved in Peter Jackson and Narnia movies for Weta. While it's interesting to see a big name like this attached to the movie, noone knows his involvement level and who else is involved in this movie. Alot of big names are attached to movies so if it weren't for that movie picture in the news article it would seem there's no solid evidence the movie's gonna get going soon.

Note that the Maquette above is not a bruntette women as shown in that production shot at the beginning of this thread.

Randy Queen has some stuff to say about this at the following link:

Quote from Randy:
The screengrab is indeed Darkchylde. Ariel will not be a brunette. Her hair is light, but it's a very dark shot. Chatter, Speculation and "we hope sos" are all good things -- I hope people will wish us luck. When there is news to unveil, or things I am able to share, I will. In the internet age I certainly realize everyone has a desire for instant gratification, myself included, but please be patient -- we have been, and are, working very hard on this.

Also, Chris Tongue from Dark Horse Entertainment (whose collaborating on the movie production) sent a letter to IESB saying (see http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3026&Itemid=99):

I'd like to clear up a few things about the Darkchylde image floating around. It's not a photo manipulation. It's a screen grab from a teaser trailer shot in New Zealand to illustrate the look and feel a Darkchylde film should have. Like the image, the teaser is a haunting testament to the material and Weta's craftsmanship. We're incredibly pleased with the direction this project is headed and eager to get into production on the feature as soon as the final pieces fall into place.

Best,
Chris Tongue
