The Mutant Chronicles

^I will see what the reviews are like then might go and see it. Fan of Jane and Perlman so it may be worth it.

There's no word on a dvd release date over here (i doubt it's going theatrical now) but interestingly next Friday (October 10) they're releasing this in UK theaters. The rating is '18' with a runtime of 111 mins.

Anyone here planning to see it?

I'm not sure if this release date is accurate, I did see an advertisement for the movie the other night, but checked my local cinema listings and it isnt on any of them for next week.

Well, it's only in about 600-ish theaters. For the people who do see it, keep in mind you're seeing a rough cut.

^Its in absolutely NO cinema's in the Liverpool area though, sometimes at least ONE in this area will get a movie. Also why is it a rough cut? Is the movie still not finished?

There's some FX shots that's not done yet and some other minor things, I belive.

Why bother releasing it then? Anyway, dont think it will make much money in this cinema run, do they plan to re-release it once its finished?

The UK money holders wants it out. The movie probably won't be out in the states until the FX are done.

Also The UK rating: "The film was classified '18' for strong bloody violence"

I thought it was out in the US tomorrow as well?

Thankfully this is on is some cinema's in Liverpool, but the reviews its getting arent the best. Total Film gives it 2/5 stars, but also compares it to Chronicles of Riddick, which I loved, so I will still go and see it.

The movie has been already been released in other countries as well.

So basically what you're saying is that they're releasing the movie with unfinished effects to some overseas audiences and then the finished result in the US?That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Being compared to Riddick isn't a bad thing.

Agreed, I loved Riddick, and MC looks as violent as Riddick should have been. If I enjoy MC as much as I do Riddick, I'll be a happy camper coming out of that theatre.

The movie looks something like a cross between Riddick, Serenity and Casshern, all movies I very much enjoyed.

I'm only saying what I've read from Tim Bradstreet and/or Jane.

Thomas Jane said:
the story so far: mutant is being released in the UK in the old format: rough cut with unfinished FX. yeah. then it's hoped that it will be released in the US with the new edit and finished FX. the UK version should come out like next week! this is the old version we've all seen on the net

Will the finished cut be released again in the UK? Or at least on DVD over here? This is all confusing.

Did they release it in Europe to get the money to finish it?

The UK investors probably wanted it out so they could get their money back or something. So, it's probably got nothing to do with getting money to finish it... but who knows (Well, they do, but you know what I mean :p )

Hopefully they'll get it done so we all can enjoy it. People either seem to love it or hate it. :p

Seems that way, the critics hate it, and I normally agree with them, but I'm a sucker for Sci-fi, its the genre I disagree with them most on :cwink:.

This flick was/is so bad it did not even bother to finish watching it.

I'll be going to see it Tuesday, will of course post a review afterwards.

What a bizar decision by the investors. The last movie i know they released like that was A Sound of Thunder but that was because they had run out of money to complete the movie. The result was an average scifi movie with by todays standards some of the worst CG effects i've ever seen.

Cool.

In the mean time here are some more reviews that have appeared online.:o

The Evening Courier Rating: 1/10
Daily Mail Rating: Turkey
Coventry Telegraph
The Times and Sunday Times 1 out of 5 stars
The Mirror
The Telegraph
The Observer and The Guardian

^Yeah they arent too good the reviews, but its the same with many Sci-fi movies these days.

Just got back from seeing this movie, really enjoyed it but come out with mixed feelings. Now, as some others have said, the movie is a huge amount of fun, with plenty of fanboy actors in the mix, including Tom Jane (The Punisher) Ron Perlman (Hellboy 1 and 2, Blade II), Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers, Doomsday, Equilibrium), Devon Aoki (Sin City, DoA) and the stunning Anna Walton (Hellboy II).

John Malkovich also pops up in a small role, and he gets the mission rolling.

As others have also said on this thread, the movie is not finished, but dont let that put you off, while its obvious in some scene's, many of the effects look good enough, with others looking very good. The movie is also incredibly corny in parts, but the story suits it, and the likes of Jane, Perlman, Pertwee and Walton are definately game, the rest of the cast, not so much. There isnt a huge amount of character development either, with only really Jane and Walton's character getting a bit.

The action scene's are fun, but the two best one's are at the beginning (the opening battle scene is stunning in parts) and in the middle (a fight between one of the soldiers and a mutant in a plummeting lift is actually executed very well), but the budget obviously had an impact on some of them and the 2nd part of the movie suffers for it.

This isnt a particularly well made movie, with some of the acting and direction leaving a lot to desired, as well as the script sometimes, but I can foresee it becoming a cult classic in the years to come, simply because of how fun it is and because it is a movie tailor made for geeks like ourselves :woot:. And Anna Walton is an acctress with both talent and looks, and with this and HBII under her belt, things could look rosy in the future.

Overall, very enjoyable, but slightly dissapointing at the same time, but this is down to the budget, final score, 7/10.

Though I would need to watch it a 2nd time to be sure of that score.

Saw this again last night, the movie is SO fun to watch its unbelievable, ANY fan of Perlman or Jane should be going to see this, NOW!

If I had the chance, I would!! :p
