Darksiders

my reaction to the kill moves in GoW is usually "No, that's not gonna feel good"

Eh whatever. To me the violence was pretty much crazy exaggerated much like GOW.

Good news for Xbox360 users!

Xbox 360 users, we're pleased to announce that a patch for the screen tearing issue experienced by some gamers will be available on Wednesday around 2am PST! Just fire up the game and the download will start automatically if you are connected to Xbox Live.
To everyone, we really appreciate your feedback and hope you know that we're paying attention to all of it. Again, thanks for playing Darksiders!

Source would be Facebook.

I've heard there's also a gate lock game save issue where you could get stuck in the PS3 and Xbox versions. anyone know about this.

So this game has caught my attention and many people seem to like it. However, I have limited time to play games these days and was wondering about the difficulty of the puzzles. I know there are a lot of them, but are they really hard or pretty easy? I want to try the game out, but I really don't want to have to reference the internet or anything like that all the time. Do they offer any hints if you get stuck, etc?
Also, anyone have a ballpark estimate of how long the game takes to beat?

The game takes 14+ hours I'd say. Depends on how much collecting you do.

None of the puzzles are hard. There are 4 dungeons. The first two have the most puzzles. None of them are hard, just tricky and may take you awhile to figure out what to do. The 3rd doesn't have many. The 4th one's puzzles are a lot of trial and error because of the weapon you get in that dungeon. There's a boss between the 2nd and 3rd dungeon but it takes place in the overworld and everything you have to do there is pretty straight forward.

What is Gameplay like, God Of War? Or More RPGish?

It's more like Zelda. There's not much of an RPG element. 3 main weapons (sword, scythe, and gauntlet) upgrade as you use them. You can attach bonuses to them. They're stuff like natural regeneration of Wrath (basically your magic), increased experience, increase damage, etc. Combos and magic you buy and then buy their upgrades (which is usually an increased range or damage).

See I have never played a Zelda game, I know shoot me, because i have gotten that response from my buddy but i guess i just have to to play it to get it. lol

Basically you're in an overworld, you're told to do something, you do that, you're told where to go. you do that. Then you go to a dungeon. Make your way through it solving some puzzles. Get the item in that dungeon and use it to solve puzzles. Beat the boss. And repeat.

It's basically a traditional, non-linear action game with puzzles. If you like GoW, you'll probably like this.

Article got an update:

UPDATE: Sometimes news gets out into the world, and sometimes that news is just plain wrong. In this case, that’s a good thing. THQ released its official financial statements earlier today, and it looks like the company is doing well. Darksiders, specifically, sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide in its first four weeks. Looks like Mr. Greenwald jumped the gun a little bit. Even more good news, THQ CEO Brian Farrell has even confirmed that the company is planning a sequel to the game in fiscal year 2012, so if you haven’t played Darksiders yet you might want to seriously consider helping them break that 2 million mark.

PHEW!

Thats just.. Phew i'm relieved. :) Bring on Co-Op in the next game!

After watching the half hour special on IGN, I have some questions for those who have beaten the game:

1) Is the weapon usage like GOW/NG/DMC, where you completely switch to another weapon? In the special I saw the scythe being used in combos (it could have been the glaive, idk), but never by itself. I hope it and the power glove can be equipped as War's primary weapon, I love alternate weapons in games.

2) This is more of a general question, but is this game worth replaying? I might be in the minority when it comes to having low criteria for that. If I find a game especially fun, I can play it many, many times (I've beaten Spidey 1 PSX 8+ times, RE4 and GOWI 12+ times, MGS: Sub 3 or 4 times, GOWII 5x, BA: DA 3-5 times, etc, etc). Unless it is a longer game like GTA VC/SA/IV, then it takes me longer to go back to it because I spent 50+ hours the first time.

3) I prefer games like BG: DA II and XMLII where the magic abilities like extra armor and so forth last (at least when maxed out) around 30 seconds or more. I know in the special War's armor ability was around lvl1, but it still lasted only 3 seconds. Will someone like me skip powering that up altogether?

1) No not really. The sword is the main weapon thru and thru pretty much.
2) I found it worth replaying. I collected all the Abyssal armor pieces and finished the game on hard. Tho that was really just because i *wanted* to finish the game on hard.
3) you can always get the AByssal armor which gives more protection.

I'm not saying it is the main weapon, but can you theoretically use one of the other weapons by themselves thru the rest of the game once you acquire them? The sword doesn't appear to be the BoC by any means, so idk why you wouldn't be able to switch. But whatevz, if that's the case it isn't a deal breaker for me. I would just like to play "scythe-only" runs to mix things up. I could pretend to be Death instead of War.:woot:

So the armor really only lasts that long? Weak. And thanks for replying so quickly, I was just about to edit my post.

One more question I wanted to add, is the uber form available once you've gotten the meter halfway like in DMC, or is it like GOWI in that you have to completely fill it up? And please don't tell me you can't stop using it once you do, GOW pissed me off with that, though I usually picked fights where I knew I'd used it all up at once.

you can always get the AByssal armor which gives more protection.

How far thru the game do you have to play before you can get that? The name implies over halfway, though I'm just guesstimating here.:yay:

Well you can use the Scythe for sure. It's powerful but the main Blade itself is just more powerful, BUT you can combonize your moves so you can keep that "Death" feeling.

I can't remember how much that armor spell lasts, i never bothered getting it actually.

Sadly it works just like you described. You can't stop it halfway thru or anything, but you can find a relic and put it on your weapon, which gives you certain % extra amount of rage gathered from kills.

Yeah you can only get the Abyssal armor when you've almost finished the game actually. =/

The armor spell, Stoneskin, continuously drains your magic as long as you have it activated. You can deactivate it before then though.

The ending to this game is epic. I'm pumped for number 2.

Underperforming or not, I mean selling over a million units in this economy is a hit in my book IMHO. Glad to hear a sequel is official.

Didn't the game sell better than Bayonetta?
