Darren Aronofsky is taking on The Wrestler

Rourke wrestled someone named The Ayatollah played by Ernest Miller.

i knew that he was in the movie. i didn't think he'd be the big rival. i kind of thought it would be an actor. he's not bad though. but yeah, someone bigger could have worked.

Same here, but like you said I thought they would have gone with a name that the general movie-goer knew....but I guess this adds to the authenticity.

definitely. im lookin for more news. ill try to add more stuff after SHH is back online.

update: apparently the set up was real classy. ROH had never been there and people seem to think the set up was because of the venue, but there's no doubt in my mind it's because of the movie.

apparently they had a cool steel ramp, similar to raw and nice lighting set up on the ramp. and they also had a shiny silver curtain at the entrance. suposed to look pretty awesome. id like to see some pics or a video.

i have seen indy shows with similar set ups. but it's rare. it's always nice when indies have good production values though. so i think this was just for the movie, but if ROH started doing this for big shows, it'd be pretty cool.

awesome. and that's a brilliant quote in your sig.

Very cool! I'm really starting to look forward to this movie. Surprising to hear about [blackout]how "porky" The Cat is[/blackout] though... lol.
i'm not surprised, because [BLACKOUT]i'm betting it's part of the character.
and not just him getting fat, hehe[/BLACKOUT]

If the Cat is fat in this then he might not call for his mama.:csad:

From Darren's blog:

"that's a wrap

we wrapped the wrestler about five hours ago. appropriately we were in phillie at the former ecw arena shooting a few inserts for mickey's war against the necrobutcher. if you've never heard of necro make sure you do a youtube search for him. he is a true superstar in the indie wrestling world.

well now, cutting begins. we got a lot of footage and a little amount of time. but i think we have the film in the can.

i will keep you updated after i take a much needed sleep.

best..."

hmm. very nice. i'm not a necro butcher fan. sure, he works his ass off. but garbage wrestling can only take you so far. but i respect his work ethic.

but i think it's cool how much aronofsky appears to respect wrestling. that's really really cool. i mean, if you're shooting at the ecw arena. AND YOU CALL IT THE ECW ARENA! you put over necro butcher for being a great worker, and you shoot the climax of your film at a ****ING ROH SHOW!!!!!!! i'm pretty sure you're on the right track for your wrestling movie.

i have so much faith in him and this movie. i mean, we all know he's a brilliant filmmaker, but now we've seen his dedication to making a film that is true to the business...i can't wait. i hope we get a release date, and i hope it gets a semi-wide release, because i'd really like to see this in a theatre. what site did that blog come from?

he doesnt appear to update it much. but hopefully he'll keep us posted on the post-production =D

hmm...that's pretty awesome. i like that idea. i wonder if it's just documentary style, like handheld. or if it's literally a fake documentary. with interviews and stuff. that'd be cool. either way, i can't wait for this movie. we need a trailer and a release date.

that's pretty interesting. i can't wait to see those pictures he mentioned =)

ARGGG!!!!! that's too much of a teaser.

and yes, rourke looks awesome. man...this movie is gonna be so great. i wish we had pics, or a trailer, or at least a release date. this is gonna be such a pivotal moment in wrestling cinema
