David Dobkin Takes on The Flash

Source: MTV

October 28, 2007

MTV learned on Saturday at the junket for director David Dobkin's Fred Claus that Warner Bros. has signed the helmer for The Flash. Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and David Goyer ("Blade" films) were previously attached to direct.

Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) says his adaptation won't be the character's first appearance in theaters, with the Flash a major part of George Miller's Justice League movie. Dobkin confirmed that his movie will be set in the same universe as Justice League as a direct spin-off.

He added that the Flash they will use is "Wally West."

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, The Flash has the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes and violate certain laws of physics, like time travel.

Wait a minute now, Shawn Levy dropped out? When was this? I don't remember ever seeing that posted on the main page or anywhere in the forums.

This also may be the reason why Ryan Reynolds isn't in JLA.

Shawn Levy was a great choice IMO. Dobkin is a meh director, I hope this gets a better director.

YAY!

A lot better than Shawn Levy, but still that's not saying much.

Levy's IMDB and RT ratings averaged together gave him a score of about 49, and this guy is at 68 which means the film should end up being fairly decent, just don't expect it to blow you away or anything.

IMO this project is just going from bad to worse. I was unenthusied with Levy, and I don't feel any better with this choice. WB seems bound and determined to put this movie in the hands of a comedic director of poor calibur...which would not bode well for any serious take on a superhero/comic book movie. When I go to see "The Flash," I do NOT want to see a comedy...I want to see an action film, with a serious respect for the original material. And I don't see the potential for that from either Levy or this guy.

I hope I'm proven wrong though.

First Goyer, then Levy, now Dobkin. I doubt this movie will ever see the light of day.

In what universe was Shawn Levy a good choice?

And what happened to JLA? Are they doing this and Flash at the same time? Is Flash not in Justice League?

From what Dobkin says this will be the first movie to spin off from JLA.
And Wally West will be the Flash in his movie.

Shawn Levy is a tragic director! David Dobkin is not a 'superman', but he is a really better than Levy!!!

This will happen after Justice League, obviously.

Well, this means this director is a hired gun, for obviously if it´s a spin-off they can´t contradict the Justice League version of the character, including the actor.

But well, at least Wedding Crashers was a much better movie than A Night At The Museum and Shanghai Knights was a decent sequel to Shanghai Noon IMO.

mmmm......Could we see Vince Vaughn as The Flash?

No, but we'll probably see the guy form Justice League as the Flash.

A step up with the director. He is better than Levy. And according to the script-rumors The Flash is the best written character in JLA.

WHat are they gonna do a comedy Flash now? I know Wally's fun but common!

Shanghai Knights was pretty cool and Wedding Crashers is one of the best movies I own. He may be a better choice than Levy in my opinion, but I still would have liked to see Goyer's flash. He seemed really jazzed about it. Hopefully this new Dude will not sully the name of the Scarlet Speedster and maybe Ryan Reynolds will ride the lightning after...

Here's hoping.

It was pretty obvious that was what they were going for when they hired Goyer, and then Levy. This is a step up in any case.

I like him more than Levy, I wonder who'll be Wally?

Makes you wonder if JUSTICE LEAGUE will be one and done.

That was my contention all along, but it all depends on the success of the film.

glad to see this film is back on track!
