David Dobkin to direct Flash

Well, this means this director is a hired gun, for obviously if it´s a spin-off they can´t contradict the Justice League version of the character, including the actor.

But well, at least Wedding Crashers was a much better movie than A Night At The Museum and Shanghai Knights was a decent sequel to Shanghai Noon IMO.

Agreed.

IMO this project is just going from bad to worse. I was unenthusied with Levy, and I don't feel any better with this choice. WB seems bound and determined to put this movie in the hands of a comedic director of poor calibur...which would not bode well for any serious take on a superhero/comic book movie. When I go to see "The Flash," I do NOT want to see a comedy...I want to see an action film, with a serious respect for the original material. And I don't see the potential for that from either Levy or this guy.

I hope I'm proven wrong though.

Yeah...three different directors in 2 years??

Not good....and that is probably why Reynolds will most likely not be the Flash in JLA....let alone this solo Flash film.

WB's seems to have totally dropped the ball when it comes to casting Reynolds as a DC hero.

Sucks....

Vince Vaughn should play a character in a comic book movie. he certainly looks like one and is a good actor too :D

I got 5 bucks says Adam Brody will be Wally West :hyper:

So first they hire Goyer who for some strange reason gets fan support, even though he was in almost complete control of the disaster called Blade Trinity. Then they hire the dude that directed The Pink Panther, I haven't seen any of his work (I don't think) but I'm pretty sure he sucks. And now they have hired the Wedding Crashers/Shanghi Knights dude, now I don't watch R rated sex-coms so I haven't seen Crashers but I had fun watching Knights, it's not great or anything but it was fun. Upgrade from both of those "directors" I think, despite the fact that Fred Claus looks like s**t.

^ LOL. Fred Claus does look like s**t doesn't it?

Why not, if I may ask? :hyper:

^All girls say that when they are the ones who are more obsessed with it that guys.

A big steaming pile of it, and thats a shame because I find Vince Vauhgn to be really funny, he was really good in the underrated "Breakup."

Why not, if I may ask? :hyper:

I'm a nice religous girl, I find movies like that to be disgusting and most of the time it's just filled with shocking sex jokes because the writters are to lazy to come up with any real ones. Personally I think thats the problem with comedies now or days they are almost all shockvalue sex jokes and nothing more. JMHO, I know people are going "but you like Saw 600 and Robocop is one of your favorite movies and it's really violet too." Well I see the violence thing differently, it may not make since to alot of people but it does to me...and some violent movies do offend me, like "The Hills Have Eyes" remake for instance.

If you say so, I can only speak for this girl, I just don't care for those types of films, I even have a hard time watching Will Ferrels almost R rated comedies. Sue me.

Sort of, but it's got nothing to do with writers being lazy. It has to do with our culture, and what our culture considers truly funny. I learned something when I did the stage show THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, considered by many to a comedy classic, filled with what is now considered very dry, upper class humor.

It used to be the "Oh snap" show, way back when. But times have changed. Comedies now are what comedies always were. Shock value and sex jokes. But what shocks us has changed. So has the nature of our culture's sexuality. So has an audience's attention span. Comedies no longer spend entire scenes building to the shock or comedy. They just spring one after the other.

You know what the funny thing about all of this is?

David S. Goyer wrote the best superhero film of all time. No kidding here. His Flash script was simply breathtaking in every single aspect. Dark, mysterious, and the end would have been so amazing to see. :csad:

where is the script review to read? i would like to read it if you have it....i'm sure it would be a good read.

I thought they were gonna use a modified Goyer script for the movie. God I hope this movie is good.

The lastest from the the Hollywood Reporter is that The Flash will NOT be a spin-off from the JL movie?

Very strange after Dobkin said otherwise days ago.

Dobkin runs with Warners, helms 'Flash

By Borys Kit

Nov 2, 2007

After helming comedy "Fred Claus" for Warner Bros., director David Dobkin has decided to make the studio his home, signing a three-year, first-look deal with the company.

Separately, Dobkin also has come aboard to direct "The Flash," the big-screen adaptation of the DC Comics hero. Craig Wright, creator of ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money, has been tapped to write "Flash," which is being produced by Mosaic Media's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Under his deal, Dobkin will direct and produce not just comedies -- the genre in which the helmer found success -- but also hopes to tackle a wide range of projects.

"We're looking to bring comedies to Warner, and I'm also looking to make large-scale scale tentpole movies as well," Dobkin said. He added that the creative freedom Warners gave him while making "Claus" made it natural for him to set up shop there.

Dobkin's first move under the deal is to step up to produce the already in-development comedy "Boss Go Home," written by "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix.

Dobkin's still-unnamed production company will be based in either Beverly Hills or Hollywood. He is promoting his assistant, Greg Garthe, to creative exec and is looking to fill other key positions.

In comics lore, there have been four incarnations of the Flash, who has remained one of DC's most popular characters. While it is unclear which version of the scarlet speedster will appear in Dobkin's movie, the project is not a spinoff of the upcoming "Justice League of America" movie that George Miller is directing in which the Flash is a major character.

Dobkin said he is a comic book fan and has long waited for a shot at a superhero movie, and the Flash's superpower has a relatability and simplicity he found appealing.

"Because of that simplicity, it is easy to design a theme and a story around what his inner life is in comparison to his superpower," he said.

With "Flash," Dobkin is stepping in the shoes previously filled by Shawn Levy, who left because of scheduling issues (HR 2/5).

Dobkin is known for directing "Wedding Crashers," starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. He also directed "Shanghai Knights," which starred Wilson and Jackie Chan, as well as "Clay Pigeons," which starred Vaughn. His "Fred Claus," which stars Vaughn, opens Nov. 9.

Dobkin is repped by CAA and attorney Warren Dern.

Wright, repped by UTA, also wrote on "Lost" and "Brothers & Sisters."

I didn't see anywhere in that article that said the film wouldn't be a spin off.

Look again.:cwink:
