Krypton David Goyer Attached to "Krypton"

Sounds like this will be on SyFy which I guess is the right home for it seeing as how it's taking place on space. I just hope they have the budget or they can do what the did with bsg and have them walk and talk in long corridors all the time.

It would be even better if they did their Jor-El just like MOS.

I don't get the love for MOS Krypton. The whole dragon thing just felt out of place. Personally I would go more the route of Superman: The Animated Series take on Krypton

I'm intrigued by this, although I do have to say that I didn't honestly expect it to actually happen.

The story potential of this, conceptually, is pretty much endless, and I could very easily see it being quite similar to the Dune Prequel novels written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson (particularly the "House" Preludes).

It's definitely going to be its own entity, though, even with Goyer's involvement (which I'm perfectly fine with).

Krypton had all manner of creatures like Doomsday for example. It's not that weird.

I would think an advanced civilization would not ride on the back of an animal as first choice of transportation. It would be like if I was trying to get away from somebody and I had a choice of a motorcycle and a horse, I took the horse as my first option

Given they can build a spaceship that can transport Kal-El from Krypton to Earth, I think they can do better for transporting oneself then a dragon. I liked MOS for the most part but that dragon really bugged me, it just felt like the movie wanted a cool visual but didn't really think how ridiculous it looked(that we are supposed to believe Krypton is some great advanced planet, yet they still need to transport oneself on the back of an animal)

Are you kidding me So because Fox decided to do a Prequel for Batman called GOTHAM. Superman is required to have one as well now on KRYPTON (and he's not even in it). He had one already it lasted a decade on tv called SMALLVILLE.

But much less of an issue for Krypton - which would have few (if any) characters in common with the current cinematic universe.

No, they're not. People are just using this as an excuse to complain. The "Multiverse approach" is just as valid as what Marvel is doing, and the world won't suddenly end because there are multiple versions of certain characters existing simultaneously.

Star Wars says hi. Plus Krypton was in civil disarray during their apocalypse. If something like this was on Earth, I'm sure you'll start seeing people riding horseback.

^ Firefly is also an example of a civilization where advanced technology coexisted with more primitive means of transportation, so it's not without precedent by any measure.

While I get the Star Wars and Firefly comparisons, I still stand by the fact that Jor-El built a ship that can transport his son to another planet, so couldn't he have built a simpler device to transport himself around the planet. How many top level scientists do you see riding around NYC on horse for instance.

In the case of Star Wars and Firefly they seemed to have a class based society determine one's method of transportation, so if somebody traveling around in a lesser method of transportation it was usually related to their status in that society. In the case of Jor-El I assume he was higher up in that peaking order.

If we become an advanced civilization that can create a trainable dinosaur, I'm sure most of us would choose to ride a dinosaur.

They could easily use ideas for Kevin Andersons 'Last Days of Krypton' novel which I thought was great.

I always thought Krypton would make a great full length movie. As a tv show, well that is alot of space to fill when you know how it ends.

I disagree. It will get very annoying. I remember working an office job when 'Superman Returns' came out and non comic fans were completely confused as to the whereabouts of the Smallville cast in that film. 'Doesn't make sense' and 'it's stupid' was the general concensciousto any explanation offered. And it's no coincidence that the shows ratings and popularity started to tumble after the films release. People were also confused about the whereabouts of Robin when Batman Begins came out. While that worked out in the long run the film itself didn't set the world on fire.

People like Robert Downey Jnr as Iron Man much like Chris Reeve became indelible in peoples minds as Superman, to the point that some still can't let that version go. One brand and an iconic definitive take is what should be done for these characters or else they will undermine each other.

These character survive by being serialized in an expanding universe that you can invest in. Look at the last Spider-Man film under-performing. But I guarantee that if they had continued and redeemed the Toby Maguire series that it would be still doing huge numbers because like the Harry Potter series, the history and the payoff would be there for the fanbase. The constant rebooting and re-imagining is a bad idea.

So Deadline is reporting that this show is nearing a pilot order from SyFy.

Not a lot of faith in David Goyer but I'm willing to give it a chance.
