David Goyer hired to write Man of Steel

I'm 1000 percent sure that Nolan wouldn't even be interested in directing Superman. Superman is a hopeful, light character, not the brooding detectives that Nolan likes to direct.

I'm actually shocked that Goyer even wants to tackle Superman as it's out of his comfort zone too.

And what about Jonah? I mean... works close enough with his bro and Goyer... and could be the controllable figure the studio would want... not to mention his script writing capabilities...

I'd be a little pissy too if the studio was freaking out for doing my job. Sure they can be annoyed, but demands? That's a bit much.

Yeah I see what you mean. I think the WB feels a bit betrayed bit LR. It seems like they have been feeding him info for a while now and he got this from somewhere else. The release of these news takes away from their planned announcements. Still good publicity for them though.

Now that being said, using etnicity and racial commentary in his twitter account is totally weak

I thought WB already had a script they were ecstatic about? Was that false or is Goyer just doing a rewrite?

Eh, too bad. I've had enough of "in the coming months we will have announcements" BS from WB. It's about time we heard something somewhat concrete and it take a scoop from LR to do so.

I dont understand why WB is putting the Batman team on Superman.

Well in the coming weeks/months hopefully we get a better picture at what goyer is doing with the script.

This has as much potential to be disastrous as it does to be good; Goyer has put some real junk out there.

I`m just disappointed it won`t be an origin story. As long as it is like Superman For all seasons or the first episode of Lois & Clark, a year one type of story, i`ll be happy. It makes no sense for it to be an estabilished Superman in a new franchise..

I'm excited for this. Using Byrne's Superman is a good step, but I hope that it uses other influences like Donner, STAS, Rucka, etc.

Scoops galore today.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: IGN has heard from reliable sources that Tull is downplaying this report. Goyer is in fact on the project, but not only that -- his The Dark Knight co-writer Jonah Nolan will also be scripting Superman: The Man of Steel along with him. Nolan's brother Christopher is expected to only executive-produce, and not direct, the film. That said, he will be "hands-on" as a producer. Since the Superman film is under the gun because of the ongoing legal entanglements involving the property, Warner Bros. wants the pair to get started on their script on the double.

Our sources add that Warners is confident in the early work that Goyer and Jonah Nolan have done so far on Batman 3, and that as a result Superman has now taken on a higher priority status at the studio than it had since Superman Returns was released.

If this is true, then I feel a lot better.

He is a terrible director.... but I thought his pen was pretty good.

I'm not thrilled about the news that it won't even have a wiff of origin should this prove accurate, the only thing I'm somewhat pleased with, is that Routh & Singer won't be brought back.. should that also prove accurate.

I find it baffling that Superman is going to be the only superhero to have a big screen film franchise in the past 10 years that HASN'T started with some sort of an origin film..

Haha, are Goyer/Chris/Jonah the new Dini/Burnett/Timm? :funny:

This is GREAT news. With Jonah on, I'm so much more confident in this script. Goyer is useful for his knowledge, but he needs the Nolan brothers to guide that vision.

Agreed.

Awesome news!

Goyer once said in an interview that he was going to stick to directing his own things and would only write movies for Chris Nolan and Alex Proyas. Since Nolan isn't directing........

:woot:

Proyas is an interesting choice.

what does wb expect? They sit around on their asses and never announce anything. It takes websites like lr for us to find out what's going on.

Maybe they should stop with "in the coming months we have announcements" bs and just flat out make their announcements already.

Thanks lr for the scoop!

this.

Very exciting news. The fact that WB seems to be so pissed is a great sign that this is legit, just in case Showtime's word wasn't enough. It's all coming together now. I'm just worried about the info really going on lock down after this.

Elmayimbe tends to do that. As far as I can tell no one seems to care as he comes from an ethnic background himself. I'm a pale white guy so I have no basis to judge, but he's always seemed to be an cool guy.

Cautious optimism for me, thanks.

Though I am intrigued that Jonah seems to be involved as well... hope this works for the best.
