Superhero Hype! has learned exclusively from a very reliable source that Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp is in talks with Sony Pictures to write Spider-Man 4!

Our source tells us that the studio is really excited about Spider-Man 3 after having seen a first cut of the movie. Add to that the phenomenal reaction to the screenings of footage at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and the momentum leading up to this point from last summer's Comic-Con, which have sparked the studio to approach Koepp about penning the fourth film's screenplay.

Koepp is not signed yet, but the studio is definitely moving forward with another installment.

Keopp recently finished the script for Indiana Jones 4 which received the green light from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford. Besides the first Spider-Man movie, he has written such blockbusters as War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park, Panic Room, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible and Carlito's Way.

The first two "Spider-Man" films earned $1.6 billion dollars total worldwide. Spider-Man 3 kicks-off the summer on May 4.

Do we know why Koepp left after Spider-Man 1??

Maybe this is a sign that Raimi won't return for #4 and that's why Koepp returns... could it be that he isn't keen on working with Sam?

fantastic news!!!!. good to hear sony wants to make a spidey4. i just hope sam returns:spidey:.

this news is there to promote the movie.
they say that they think about the sequel. and why do tehy say this? well because they saw a cut of the movie and it is great.

I'm not ready to think about Spidey 4 yet. Right now, I'm focused on Spidey 3.

It's possible, but if that's true why they didn't go after Raimi in first place?

maybe they did and he rejected the offer

Koepp never left. He wrote the first draft of Spider-Man 2. Raimi was gonna give him credit (which you can tell since Koepp's name appears in some of those kids books that were released before the film came out) but the WGA didn't gave him the credit. Also, the reason he didn't work on Spider-Man 3 is because the films writer, Alvin Sargent (who wrote 2nd films final draft) is Laura Ziskin's husband. Laura Ziskin is, of course, the producer of the films. So, I guess you can make your own conclusions.

There are only two reasons why Sam Raimi would not return for SM4:

1. He decides not to... and

2. SM3 does the unthinkable and bombs at the box office.

Other than that, why would Sony mess with the formula for success?

Sam Raimi will not leave. If he decides not to direct he'll stick around as a producer.

Hmm, interesting. Doesn't Raimi have interest in bringing "The Shadow" to the big screen now?

This is intresting news indeed.

Sony are saying to Raimi and Maguire, "Whether you are onboard or not, there will be a Spider-Man 4."

They know that, dude. Laura Ziskin has said a million times that they want 6 films.

Or Tobey could decide to leave setting up Raimi to go as well. But I think and hope they'll both return.

That in itself doesn't mean much. The fact that Sony have actually gone so far as to aquire a writer without making sure Raimi and Maguire are in first is significant. In essence, they're saying to Raimi, "If you won't continue your story, someone else will."

Yeah, but I doubt Raimi is surprised.

I think he will be. After all, he hasn't said he won't do Spidey 4 yet (atleast, not to the media) and if he does, he'll want to choose the writer himself.

Sony let Raimi handle the writers for both Spidey 2 and 3. It's certainly of significance that now they've decided the writer of 4 themselves without waiting to see if Raimi will be involved.

but, I suppose she meant with tobey in it. Because a Spider-man movie without Tobey does not have continuity.

Maybe they start a new trilogy with different actors but not as a continuity (3,4,6)

However this plays out, you can bet Maguire will be offered a ridiculously huge ammount of money to do Spidey 4.

Raimi isn't surprised. The man has been in show business for almost 27 years now. He knows how the studio system works. Especially since a studio completely f--ked up his second film, Crimewave. After going through what he went during Crimewave nobody would be surprised by what a studio does. As for Koepp, Raimi probably doesn't mind. Koepp worked on the first two films. The only reason he wasn't brought back for the third film is because the writer is sleeping with the producer. Also, if Raimi doesn't like what he reads and can't compromise with Koepp he'll just bring in other writers. Which is basically what happened during Spider-Man 2. And, finally everybody says that Raimi will leave. I doubt it to be honest. If Raimi doesn't want to direct anymore I can 100% sure that he'll stick around as a producer.

SPIDER-MAN 4?

FCK'IN AWESOME!!!

By the way, I think- I'm not sure- that Raimi said (I could be mixed up) that he would like to do as many Spider-Man movies as possible...

Tobey and especially Kirstin is another issue altogether.... but, McGuire will most likely be back- since Raimi probably will be. Since TM said once that one of the only ways he'd be interested in an SM4 is if Raimi was going to be involved.

But the point is, Sony let Raimi pick his writers beforehand, or write himself. Why don't they do the same again? Why not wait until they have his decision, and even if he says no, pick a new director first?

This says to me Raimi is not in charge anymore.
