I hope Vanderbilt focus more in doing a good movie (still into the PG-13) than make it thinking of the kids.
You and me both, something a lot more adult-oriented for a change. I'm hoping he writes SM4 in vein of ZODIAC. Meaning, mature dialogue, character development and writing Peter as a man and not a freakin' nerd--allowing his character to evolve.

The more you focus on Cletus Kassidy, the scarier Carnage becomes. As said before Carnage comes more into play nearing the final act. Cletus is the core and meat of the film. Carnage, once unleased, is more of an uncontrollable force of nature and becomes more and more of a killing machine; killing as many people in sight rather than stalling to observe blood matter. Carnage loves the act more than anything else because it allows him to give into these primal instincts that he is very fond of. This is a guy who wants worldwide anarchy and for people to become pre-civilized. So he'd rather rampage through a city killing everybody in sight rather than stopping at one of the victims to kill them slowly, he wants worldwide chaos- stopping doesn't do that, killing MANY in his way achieves his uncontrollable goal that the symbiote strengthens and scares Venom away from him just like in the cartoon (but in a more adult way of thinking).
That sounds awesome and interesting, Tempest19.

Does anyone else have a problem with Vanderbilt? I mean, yeah, he wrote "Zodiac"... but he also wrote "The Rundown", which let's face it, isn't exactly the greatest movie in the world. Also wrote "Basic" and "Darkness Falls", which also aren't quite up to par. This guy's track record makes me nervous. Don't care how much you love the character - that doesn't mean you'd be good at writing for him.

^It really depends more on the director than the writer. Case in point: Nolan being able to take Goyer's script and turn it into the fantastic Batman Begins.

^ Nolan had a hand in creating the story and writing the script though, didn't he? Or am I mistaken?

I don't, he seems to really like the films.

Take the more recent films as an example. If he wrote Zodiac in 2002, and he had written Darkness Falls and Basic since then, I'd have a problem. But having written Zodiac most recently shows growth as a writer. Plus, The Rundown was decent as far as cheap, stupid, entertainment goes. I'm more comfortable knowing he wrote both Zodiac and The Rundown than if he had written just one of them.

.
except in the cartoon Venom came out on top of Carnage every time they fought. He would always jump on Carnage and pin him down. the 90's toon pretty much made Venom the strongest villain, he tossed everyone around(including rhino)

True, and I hope his mindset is on putting out a script that's better than Zodiac (which was really good), so he can continue to grow. This is his biggest project, he's going to have tons of more people focusing on this script than Zodiac. If he wants a huge ass career boost, he'd better deliver.
And there's a ten to one shot, that the script will get leaked online before the damn cameras roll, because Sony is horrible at keeping Spider-Man's script secret. Hell, it's usually someone who works for Sony that leaks this stuff just for spite. They must hate there boss over there.

And when you compare The Rundown to Zodiac, the difference is; one is a generic entertainment action kid fluff (PG-13) and the other is a dramatic adult-oriented gritty thriller (R-rated). It's always better to go R=RAW. I hope he's not trying to write a generic hollywood run-of-the-mill blockbuster, because if he is then he's already failed. He has to push the envelope with a PG-13 movie like "THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM" film did, with all of its drama, violence, thrills, action and character development.

^ I guess I agree with that. I'm just not sure that Vanderbilt is capable of delivering.

He's more than capable of delivering, if Sony/Marvel allows him to write the script with his balls intact...like Zodiac.

^ Just hope that Avi Arad doesn't get to him, like he did with Sam on SM3...

Oh no, I will stop that MOFO any way I can this time...you have my word.

*Release the hounds*

just a quick question, this James Vanderbilt guy isn't that dude from dawson's creek is it?

I´m actually pretty excited about this, Zodiac is one of my favorite recent movies and I think he can do a really great job. The franchise needs a fresh voice, and Vanderbuilt just might be it.

Now, if we can only get an interview with Vanderbilt hinting about what he's doing differently to pump new blood into the franchise.

Like Raimi's long interview, which sparked the whole swaying the writer's opinion debate.

I only want to hear from Vanderbilt. This is one thing that Sony has to do, let Vanderbilt be the new voice of SM4, until a new director is hired, since Raimi is working on directing other projects.

I hope we get a new interview soon. James Vanderbilt is probably writing the script right now, so when he's done, I hope he gives us some information on what they are trying to do with Peter in this film.

Yeah, because I know they won't tell us who the villains are going to be, like everyone else does with no pause.

Which is bull. It seems with every other comic book movie out there, the villains are one of the first things they announce.

With the Spidey movies, Sony plays stupid guessing games with us for as long as they can.

I know! It's not as if it pays off or anything, with a ridiculous amount of hype, attention and speculation that always parlays into having, by far, the highest-grossing superhero movies of all-time.

If that were the case, then maybe Sony would have motivation for keeping the villains under wraps.
