Sequels David Koepp in Talks for Spider-Man 4!

I think what Alvin did with 2, blew away what koepp did with 1. Spider-man 1 is a great movie but the writing is sometimes weak. I would like a collaberation..sorta like what happened with 2.

my only worry is that if tobey, sam, and the rest of the cast and crew return. we need them for spidey4........they make these movies phenominal.

But the point is, Sony let Raimi pick his writers beforehand, or write himself.

Well, not with the first Spider-Man. But, that's obvious of course!

Why don't they do the same again? Why not wait until they have his decision, and even if he says no, pick a new director first?

I don't know, dude. We'll find out for sure soon enough.

This says to me Raimi is not in charge anymore.

This is Sam Raimi not Steven Spielberg. Of course he was not "REALLY" in charge.

But think.....are there not other directors and actors out there who can create phenomenal movies as well?

Koepp never left. He wrote the first draft of Spider-Man 2. Raimi was gonna give him credit (which you can tell since Koepp's name appears in some of those kids books that were released before the film came out) but the WGA didn't gave him the credit. Also, the reason he didn't work on Spider-Man 3 is because the films writer, Alvin Sargent (who wrote 2nd films final draft) is Laura Ziskin's husband. Laura Ziskin is, of course, the producer of the films. So, I guess you can make your own conclusions.

Didn't know he was her husband... that' nepotism :)
I must admit that I liked the first movie's story much more than the second's. It had that certain something that "spider-man 2" didn't have.

I hope SM3 has it though :D

Well, that's good to hear that a familiar face will pen SM4. But I did think that the first Spider-Man movie (which did have a last-minute rewrite by Alvin Sargent) had a weaker story, but of course it had to set up the primary characters and so forth.

Spider-Man 2 was much more self-assured and I enjoyed it a great deal more than the first. I'm not so sure about the third movie, but with Raimi and Sargent onboard, it's bound to be good. Hopefully.

I won't make a big fuss if Raimi doesn't come back for the fourth movie, because there are other directors out there who can do just as well as he can. The key thing for me if the fourth movie is going to happen, they have to get Dunst, Maguire and Franco to come back.

Yah but a spider-man movie with a different director would change the feel of the whole series, plus it would have a new cast. I dont think I'd like either of those things, even if scorsesse or jackson directed :(.

I honestly think they should stop at 3 if 4 is going to end up being related to Raimi's movies only by name.

Good news.

At this point, Sam has everything in his hands possible to make as many films of Spidey as he wants, if SpiderMan 3 turns out being the EXCELENT picture it appears to be.

I don't think the people behind Sony are so dumb of not getting on board all the people that made the first 3, it would be stupid and... guess what? a terrible idea.

For me the real good news here are that Sony are delighted with the first cut of the film.

My thoughts? For Spidey 4, Sam will be back, Tobey will be back. Not sure about Dunst though.

D!

to be honest, he isn't the greatest writer in the world, i mean WOTW? Please! But the fact a spidey 4 is being thought about is still kinda cool, altho could be very easy to fudge up!

As this is a spoiler forum, I can tell you that Franco is not likely to appear in any more Spidey films. Harry is pining for the fjords.

I think other filmmakers and actors can make a great Spidey film as well. But, people are just scared cause of the track record:

Superman III and IV
Batman & Robin
X-Men: The Last Stand

Didn't know he was her husband... that' nepotism :)

I liked Spider-Man more than the second installment. But, it wasn't because of the story. I just didn't like how Doc Ock was really The Lizard in disguise. And, you know what I mean.

D!

Dunst will return if the cash is there.

I know there's a lot of Koepp haters out there. I don't understand why. The guy has written some of the biggest blockbusters of the last decade and a half.

thequality of writing though is poor, they're only big blokbusters because of money

But many of those movies kicked ass! Jurassic Park was awesome! Mission: Impossible was good. The first Spider-Man was awesome! He also wrote a little film in 1994 called The Paper. It was directed by Ron Howard and starred Michael Keaton. And, it is probably one of the most underrated films of the `90s. The guy has done good stuff!

Sure. Also because people are used to Raimi and Tobey's version and want it to continue. Myself, I love that there are different takes on Bond and Batman and want to see the same with Spidey.

Dunst will return if the cash is there.

I think we should have a little wager on this, because I think she cannot wait to leave the series and will only return if promised something absurd like $25m. Which she won't get as Bryce Dallas Howard has been bought in purely to replace her.

Let's go over the man's resume. All the following movies kicked ass:

War of the Worlds (2005) (screenplay)
Secret Window (2004) (screenplay)
Spider-Man (2002) (screenplay)
Panic Room (2002) (written by)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) (screenplay)
Mission: Impossible (1996) (screenplay) (story)
The Shadow (1994) (written by)
The Paper (1994) (written by)
Carlito's Way (1993) (screenplay)
Jurassic Park (1993) (screenplay)
Death Becomes Her (1992) (written by)

mission impossible was fun, but the writing was so vague and generic, jurassic park was cool, but after the simple premise, the level of dialogue is very simplistic, and don't get me started on WOTW!!! It may just be he sucks at blockbusters....

Money alone doesn't make a movie succesful. I'm sure I don't need to name loads of hugely expensive movies which flopped.

Koepp is not one of Spielberg's favourites for nothing.

Same here, dude. But, again, people are just scared of the track records. The replacement usually f--ks up. I don't know why.

I'll be the first to admit that Dunst took the role of MJ because it will (and HAS) help her career. However, she has become friends with these people. So, if she does stay it will be for three reasons:

a) money
b) friendship
c) money AND friendship

I hate to say this but its kinda like Michael Keaton. The MAIN reason Keaton did Batman was because of Tim Burton. So, I think if Dunst does indeed stay its because of Sam Raimi. And, the same would apply for Tobey.

Which she won't get as Bryce Dallas Howard has been bought in purely to replace her.

Um...I don't think Howard will replace Dunst per say! MJ is too big of a character to be replaced by Gwen. I say Sony should just replace Dunst with Rachel McAdams! Or atleast threaten her with that to see how she'll react.

Let's go over the man's resume. All the following movies kicked ass:

War of the Worlds (2005) (screenplay) - Awful film in every respect apart from effects
Secret Window (2004) (screenplay) - not seen, but heard bad things
Spider-Man (2002) (screenplay) - such great source material, it doesn't take a genius
Panic Room (2002) (written by) - I avoided after seeing the trailer, could be good, but not been bothered by it
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) (screenplay) - Eek
Mission: Impossible (1996) (screenplay) (story) - wow, a generic action film:whatever:
The Shadow (1994) (written by) - Very fun, could do with some work though, mediocre screenplay made nice work of by Baldwin
The Paper (1994) (written by) - not seen but intrigued
Carlito's Way (1993) (screenplay) - same as above
Jurassic Park (1993) (screenplay) - already mentioned
Death Becomes Her (1992) (written by) - Now this film actually has a witty screenplay, and is probably the best written of the lot, due to it's several levels of humour, not seen for a while, but very fond memories

here's my comments

To each his own, dude.

Exactly.

That's a hell of a resume.

I'm sure he's the envy of every writer in Hollywood except for Charlie Kaufman and those Pirates of the Caribbean writers.

But the point is not why she took the role, it's that she wants to leave. If you've read any of her comments, she says she's not coming back except for crazy money. Sure she loves the crew, but she's done three movies of screaming and wondering if Peter is the right guy for her before making embarassing speeches. She doesn't want to do four.

Um...I don't think Howard will replace Dunst per say! MJ is too big of a character to be replaced by Gwen. I say Sony should just replace Dunst with Rachel McAdams! Or atleast threaten her with that to see how she'll react.

Okay, we should definetly have a bet on that! I say Gwen is the love intrest in Spidey 4 and there will be no MJ at all.

To each his own, dude.

Exactly.

shame hollywood isn't known for having cinema as a creative medium for writers and directors, but more of a producers medium.
