Sequels David Lindsay-Abaire writing Spider-Man 4

I mean, S-M 2 had like five writers on board (Chabon, Koepp, Gough, Millar and Sargent), yet that movie was extremely coherent and enjoyable. That said, that could also be due to Raimi and Sargent picking out things they liked from those drafts.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lindsay-Abaire was taken off and Alvin Sargent was brought back in to polish and work in elements of Vanderbilt's and Abaire's drafts for S-M 4 and S-M 5. He does have an option to write a fourth Spidey flick after all.

Does Sargent really have a 4th movie option for this? If so, what you just said is probably what will happen. I cant remember was he involved in the 3rd movie at all?

just goes to show,that these people have no idea of what to do with the character any more!! told you people, the s-m3 story ruined it for even trying to continue the franchise!!!! no sense of direction for spidey,same old tired director,tired actor,tired exec producer,it's over!!

by the time this movie get's in preproduction t.m. will be like what 33 years old?whatever,it's over!!!!!

Your an idiot, this bit of news doesn't show anything your saying. Your just ignorant, close minded and childish.

^Cant see that, otherwise it would have been mentioned, I think JV has written a draft, and they want this new guy to either re-write it or polish it up.

The last one was overly dramatic, so they got a guy who won an award in drama for another draft? I'm all for good talent that's passionate about the material, but after the third film it'd be nice if they got someone who's known more for their good sense of pacing.

But, oh well. So long as Raimi sticks to directing and nothing more, it'll probably be an okay film when it's all said and done.

^I dont see how they can do a Spidey movie without the drama, I just hope this guy brings something new and fresh to the drama rather than what was in Spiderman 3 which felt like a retread.

Wow. This is pretty much the same situation as Spider-man 2. When Vanderbuilt was hired I wondered whether other writers will follow, and here's the answer. While I am not knocking the previous films which I quite like (most especially Spider-man 2) I really hope they don't turn to Alvin Sargent to do the final rewrite. Not only did he write the final draft of Spider-man 2 and was the only writer aside from the Raimis on Spider-man 3, he also did uncredited rewrites on Spider-man 1. He does have an option to do 4 but I saw a quote where he said it's time for someone else to do it.

It's also interesting they hired another Pulitzer winner. I remember when Chabon was hired on Spider-man 2 there was a lot of fanboy buzz when he was hired but if you read his draft online it is quite different and not as good imo. They really only used select moments from his script such as the pizza delivery and the JJJ in the Spider-man costume seen in Spider-man 2.1.

More than one writer on different drafts of a big movie like this aren´t anything out of the ordinary. It´s very likely that contributions from both of them will end up in the movie. Both are definitely respectable writers.

I never said they should do one without drama. I said they need better pacing, not just drama specialists. :huh:

Well just because he wrote drama doesn't mean there will be the same amount. Maybe even better drama. Too much drama yes, but just enough and done correctly is done by a specialist. Which is why he has a Pulitzer Prize.

Jesus, this is a Pulitzer Prize winning writer and I already hear complaints. Don't you want a great SM4? And I think they are keeping Vanderbilt's screenplay, but this guy is polishing like some other have said. So far I'm really excited to see how this is shaping up. And I would love to see Sargent back. The screenplay to SM2 was beautiful.

He may be known for his drama among the regular populace because of his Pulitzer, but theatre people prolly know him best for his play, Fuddy Meers.

Which is a comedy and a damn good one.

Don't worry, Spider Fans. You got a good one.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

You know, this is a pretty good move on Columbia’s part. Stage writers are some of the best writers in the biz and bring all the elements required to tell a story and involved the audience. Elements such as drama, mystery, thrilling, intrigue, danger, plot, comedy, suspense, emotion, monologue, and pace. Remember, they do this without any help from CGI, Special Effects, and shooting separate scenes. He definitely brings a much needed sense of story telling to the table… whether he can deliver, time will tell. Being a Pulitzer-Prize Winning Writer sure helps.

As far as Vandy is concern, I wouldn’t be so up in arms about DLA hire. He’s probably hired to collaborate with Vandy on bringing about the type of story and dialogue the film require needs to move on from the debacle in story-telling that was Spider-Man 3.

You wonder if this changes filming parts 4/5 back to back... and don't think it will change though.

I dunno... I think it was the influx of the scripts coming in for Vanderbilt to either write and/or rewrite that made him unavailable to do rewrites for S-M 4. Perhaps he recommended Lindsay-Abaire to take on writing duties/rewrite his draft of S-M 4.

There's a lot of maybes in that sentence. Maybe Sony wasn't pleased with the 2-film treatment he submitted for them and wanted someone else to take writing duties for S-M 4 and 5.

Vanderbilt = characters
Lindsay-Abaire = comedy(?)
Sargent = action?

;)
