The only thing from that scene that's in the movie is Superman's crash landing in that field where the circus was getting set up. Instead of coming from Bizarro world though, he landed there after getting the Kandorians to another planet.

The landing was spectacular so i guess they wanted to keep it.

Haven't seen this yet, nor have I read the comics, I have however thought that superman is an incredibly hard character to portray because he is so epic in so many different fields of life. from the sounds of it, it seems like more focus needed to be put on his last moments, and not all the villains he must face. Can't wait to watch regardless though.

And this is why revenue and budgets for future projects are being lowered across the board. Even if you're not sure you want to "blind buy" it, at least Netflix the darn thing!

Pretty soon, you won't see this quality of DC Animated films (or anything else) on the market, at anything close to the volume or frequency...and possibly not at all.

Yes, this includes big-budget films as well.

But by all means, keep on keeping on...thanks for helping to kill entertainment media.

Just watched it...
The middle part just sucked...

The beginning started off good, the ending was good that middle part...was "meh."

Tons of useless scenes that did not need to be in there, and could of been re-worked to allow a more fluid.

I liked the movie but I feel they cut out alot of what made ASS great as well. I mean I like the whole Superman dealing with Pa Kent's death story and I like the whole Bizarro issue or the speech Superman gave to the girl about to jump> The whole why the world needs Superman issue really. While it was a good movie I think they truly dropped the ball on this one.

Never read the book. And this was not great but not bad either.

Bruce Timm says it's his favorite...well....it's NOT mine.


Story is kind of all over the place. Dialogue was good but the action was not all that spectacular.

It's still a great movie and I will definitely buy it.

Yeah it's always sad to see this. We already lost the shorts to piracy because people here can't be bothered with 20 bucks but claim the movie wasn't good enough for their money, but apparently seem to have this sense that they can just steal something. It's sad that this happens especially with people who like to declare themselves as true fans and whatnot ridicilousness.

Anyhow i got my Blu-ray now, so hooray for first legal copy review? Amazing, right?:

Story, Casting:

I loved the voice acting, especially Anthony Lapaglia as Lex Luthor, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane and Arnold Vosloo as Bar-el, not to mention John Dimaggio as Aquaman Atlantis, OUTRAGEOUSNESS!!!!

James Denton is spot on Superman. He is laidback and kind, what more do you need from the Man of Steel? Now when they said the story woud be 90% loyal i got overhyped, because ultimately they meant the essence of the story and not in actual context, but i still loved the movie, oh god was this a good way to say goodbye and show what a total god of pure good and innocence Superman is, and i love him for that. We humans are imitators, horses don't try to fly nor do fishes try to run, but we humans try to imitate everything almost. We need to look up for the angels or in this better case Superman and imitate him, because he inspires the best of us and he gains power thru us.

The action is awesome as heck for the little action scenes it has, the dialogue is purely awesome and highly physicist since they talk all atoms and other stuff, but yeah i'm glad the dialogue didn't get too much changed, tho i wish Superman had said "theres always a way" in one particular shot, but it's Lois Lane in this movie who says that. Luthor's niece is hilariously awesome, but it's a shame we didn't get Leopold the monkey!

The altered ending took me by surprise, but it was kinda good and bad at the same time, they redeemed Lex Luthor which he never does in the comic, but it never showed Leo consult with Superman so they kinda give an heir to Superman because they demanded a new being of greatness to imitate, but after all Superman KNOWS this because he has seen his future hair, so it all fits. =)

Best part, the Bruce Timm & Grant Morrison commentary

First things first: Grant Morrison loved the altered ending and wished he had done something same to redeem Lex Luthor in his own story.

Bruce Timm praises the hell out of Morrison, talking about his love to All Star Superman and New X-Men, he didn't know somethings we're from the comics such as Luthor's niece and other things referring them as "total Morrison ideas". He also loved the corny dialogue that only works for Superman such as "YOu broke the moon!" and "i will love you to the end of times" and Morrison states that this is the stuff he should be exactly saying as it only works out for him. They also talk about their favcorite hero movies ranging from Morrison's Walt Disney Hercules to Bruce all time favorite the Incredibles. Timm also talks how hard it was to capture Quitely's art and how much work they did for it, then also talking about why some scenes they felt didn't first make sense but ultimately did, and how the musical score helped make things truly epic. His only fear seemed to be how the general public sees this film and was very happy that Morrison embraced it.

Superman Now: It's pretty much a 30 minute short documentary spinning on how All Star Superman became alive and what inspired it. Did you know #1 starts with the sun rising, #6 with the moon rising and the story concluding with the sun rising once more? This 12 issue epic that spins a whole year arguebly is also like 1 massively epic day for Superman. I never noticed that! Dan Didio even went all the way to Glasglow to visit Morrison to talk about these things. Morrison also reports another story of meeting a cosplaying Superman and talks how he was inspired by how laid back the most invulnurable Superhero should be, as this guy was just all relaxed and it gave a big impact on Morrison.

Morrison's father had also died around the time he started writing this comic, and he does talk about his emotional impact on this work, along with explaining that no matter how strong Superman is, or how weak Batman is compared to him: Personal conflicts and emotionals are always the biggest threaths for the men in spandex and normal people.

He also talked how he demanded that the art would demonstrate emotions, not simply insert dialogue where someone states they're sad and whatnot, the kind of beatiful emotional power you can see from great art.

Bizarro world was inspired by the idea of pure depression. We also get a 10 minute video look of Morrison's notepad that had stuff from the late 90s to modern day before all star Superman, showing couple of things that clearly show Morrison has been ahead of the curve in some regards.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights preview: Krona is the main villain of the movie, but the main character isn't actually Hal Jordan but it's Arisia. Hal Jordan is the backbone and narrator of the story, wheres Arisia is the new member and the eyes of the viewers who are being introduced to the GL universe. Kilowog's origin will be shown. Abin Sur will have a flashback story too. Laira is the most order following soldier of the story who uses her martian mart skills. Also we will see Sinestro Corp in this movie.

Animation style is pretty much the same as GL: First Flight. =) Also they're using TECHNO music and orchestral, wohoo!!!!!

If you love All Star Superman, you need to purchase this. If you love Grant Morrison, then you need to purchase the best edition for all the juicty things.

The comic book had a better ending. Its hinted that Lex is redeemed, the book just doesnt flat out show it like that. I prefer it for its subtlety and because i love Grant Morrison's wacky time travel shenanigans.

I think they omitted Leopold the monkey because he was a clue for the book's ending, so he was unnecessary now.

I watched it too and didnt like it. Im not a big fan of the story in the first place, think its way overrated, but it had some really DAMN good chapters who were genius. Chapters like the Pa Kent Death with the time travel and the Superman squad, Chapter 10 with Superman creating our world, curing cancer, him talking to Jor-el about life and all. Those WERE the best moments of the story and to me All-Star Superman doesnt work WITHOUT them. They removed my favorite moments from the comics and I HATED THIS DECISION. They kept the Kryptonians who served no purpose to the story at all instead of showing what Superman does best? Saving people and giving them hope? And in the end, we finish with a GODDAMN PAINTING of the book instead of seeing animated?

That was BS.

All-Star Superman was a story about how there's hope in the end because it's Superman we're talking about! Even in the moments of adversit, He does the unimaginable, the extraordinary and this movie captured none of that (He cures freaking CANCER!!!!). It just felt flat. Thank god i didn't buy this...

And if that wasn't enough, I hate the idea of Lois not believing he was Clark. That makes no goddamn sense.

I wish they would adapt Superman for all seasons, Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow or Action Comics #775. Now those would be great because they really read like movies!!! All-Star Superman is just too much stuff in it and it doesnt really work, imo.

Whoever claims Lex is implied to be redeemed at the comic is making things up. Morrison himself in the commentary states how he liked the movie's ending more because they redeemed Lex Luthor, and his story never does.

Voice over (text in box):

The voice over explains that after Superman's death Lex fell into obscurity the same way that the Joker cannot exist without Batman.

Right before Superman left for the sun he gave Leo Quintum instructions on how to combine his DNA and Lois'
- You trust me with this? What if i was the devil?
- I think i'm a pretty good judge of character doctor.

Quintum starts a project called "Superman 2". The end.

The thing is that throughout the book it is heavily implied that Leo = future Lex that went back in time and tried to make up for all the bad things he's done. Morrison doesnt show him get in a time travel machine because he wants to leave it ambiguous and let the reader figure it out, and that's why he has never confirmed the theory in any of his interviews.

The movie ending removes the whole trust aspect of Lex's redemption. In the book Superman trusts him with his offspring, whereas in the movie Lex just has a change of heart and offers to help. It's also a lot simpler in concept than the time traveling thing.

Also, in the comic Quintum wears a rainbow coat which you can see in the link i post below. It's exactly like Lex's except for all the weird colours. I think that the coat is symbolic of how Lex saw the world with Superman's powers. All the particles, the spectrum of light, etc. I'm mentioning it because he wore a simpe coat in the movie.

Oh and because the article doesnt explain it so well because it assumes you ve read the book, during the prison scene Lex shows Clark a pet monkey he has dressed in Superman's suit to mock him. He calls him Leopold.

What better way to show his remorse than naming himself Leopold (Leo)?
