DC Animated - All-Star Superman

Like we dont know of his origin already? That's what Begins is there for.

I think it's a story worth being told and I look forward to it. :o:up:

Plus from what I've heard the animation is going to be really close to the David Mazzucchelli art work. So, that is just plain awesome right there.

oh i hope soo....all those wonderfully stark contrasts looking all noir-ish...ah

This was posted from a Wizard Magazine interview with Timm...

Batman Year One: "Just like the comic, it's very much set in the real world, even more than the Christopher Nolan movies. There's no science fiction in this movie. There are no larger-than-life elements at all. Even BM's gadgetry is very low tech, even by 1986 standards [when Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's classic series was first published]. There's no Batmobile; theres's no Batcave; there's no Bat-signals. He's literally a guy in a cloth suit, with a couple of small gadgets doing his best to beat the crap out of crime".

Green Lantern Emerald Knights: "It's just a really good opportunity for us to go outside the Hal Jordan box. There's all those other really interesting characters in the GL Corps universe, that doing the anthology format like we did with 'Gotham Knights' really allowed us to explore some of these other characters. And we're including the famous Mogo story by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons."

Green Lantern: The Animated Series: "I would be shot tomorrow if I talked about it. But it's going to be great. If we play our cards right, it's going to be unlike anything you've ever seen. We're planning on premiering it as a special next fall and then the series will start early 2012".

A very realistic take on Batman's origin where half of the story is about Gordon dealing with corruption and getting beaten up? Thanks but i'd rather watch Begins. Y.O was great back in the day but its rather dull now.

Take off those nostalgia goggles.

Negative Nancy. :o

:woot::woot::woot:

But seriously i found it boring. A mix of Mask of the Phantasm, the BTAS episode "Zatanna", and Begins make the perfect origin for me. For all the crap i give Nolan about his dry TDK, i adore BB and its magical atmosphere, more comicbooky plot threads, action and scenery.

Year one is worse than TDK. Bruce comes back, bat crashes through window, i will become a bat, Gordon gets beaten up, some alleys, corruption everywhere, the end. Begins is much more magical and it focuses on Bruce, his journey to become batman, his training, etc. When it comes to Bruce's journey to become batman Miller only talks about the bat.

Honestly...Year One just sounds boring to me. I LIKE over the top Batman. I don't really care for "realistic" superhero stories.

I want some one to just adapt the damn ION(the first one) storyline to animation.

Ooh my copy already dispatched! I smell an early review!:)

It has that white tint that the comic book had and made it look like a dream. They also got Quitely's style without copying it to the T and only keeping the good parts (they left out the thousands of creases for example).
The movie is going to be awesome!

I would've liked if they did copy Quitely's design more. I assume they don't have the time and means to, but something like this would've been interesting to give it a different look than they've been giving their films lately...

I think its special enough. If they went overboard trying to copy him it would have been distracting. Truth be told his backgrounds and poses are always great but his faces and all those creases are not. Dont forget that us fans have grown accustomed to his style and have come to appreciate it but the average joe that will buy this DVD would probably be put off by it the style was even closer to Quitely's. I think Quitely is an acquired taste, although i dont think i'll ever come to like his ugly faces, especially the female ones.

Yeah, his art does have a sort of niche target audience type of quality to it. But, the idea of it still seems more appealing to me.

I don't read much comics and haven't seen much of his work. I thought the faces looked fine with whatever might have been happening. Like say the Superman's faces on the cover of the first issue compared to when he was screaming for Lois when that guy with the robot attacked the city.

What don't you like about the faces, especially the females? How does his work compare now to All-Star Superman or other work he's done in the past.

His Lois is kinda good, but the rest of the females he's drawn look like his Superman with long hair, in other words they re kinda manly. ;)

:hehe:

All the women looked fine to see in All-Star.

His WW seems fine here, but a little too slim for my tastes...

His Emma looks a little off...

Jean looks funny here, but it could just be her expression...

She looks ok here...

I guess it just depends.

Those all look like men to me, or super ugly women at best.

Different things for different people. Year One is my all time favorite Batman-story. While parts of it is definetly realistic, I think a lot of it isn't.
