DC Animated - Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

man it would be great if their was a dcau animated movie to do something with that world but yea its long since dead, we are lucky to get kevin/tim/etc..... guys from that eras to pop up every once in awhile in a new dc cartoon.

batman HUSH is another one i would like to see.

it's not an official list, it's just a list of stories that the people who work on the DTVs would like to do

well it would be nice if we get some other characters like a flash/aquaman/etc.... characters before we see any more batman/superman animated films.

well they tried Wonder Woman, and thought it was good, didn't sell for ****....and unless GL puts up good numbers like JL New Frontier or superman/doomsday...don't expect to see Flash or even *chuckle* Aquaman...and public enemies is a great and simple story, glad they are going with that

i thought i read ww did decent in sales? but come on just cause ww didnt fly off the shelves shouldnt stop characters like flash/aquaman to get their chance. Since just like ww, flash, aquaman are likely not going to get the light of day on a live action film for awhile. And only live action forms we get to see of them are smallville, which i though aquaman and impluse have been done fairly well.

it did ok, but well below expectations and well below what JL new frontier and superman/doomsday did....it costs the same amount of money to put out each DTV and WB wants a good return on those projects

understandable but it does suck looks like certain characters will be screwed in animated and live action chances.

actually, it does unfortunately. it costs the same amount of money. even if they sell one dvd more than breaking even, it's an obviously better investment to do others.

but i agree with you. I hope we can sqeeze out a flash and potential aquaman movie out of them before they completely drop them.

unfortunately, essentially for the same exact reasons but on a much larger scale.

but a silver lining, i think ironman GREATLY helped the 2nd tier characters. if GL and thor can make bank, then they can definitely breathe life into the scripts in limbo, but they all should thank ironman.

yea hopefully gl and do as well or better then im to help dc see their 2nd/3rd tier character could work in live action. i been like come on flash/ww/aquaman/gl all could have easily been made in this decade and if they are taken seriously, you keep the main points/takes of the character faithfully, and promote it like hell it should be good. I SAID it before this is one reason i have liked marvel's self films/co finanaced films they have had the guts to try different characters from their big guns to some of their lesser known/popular characters and we either gotten a good film or we have gotten a bad film, or a somewhat decent film. Were as dc/wb just keeps on sitting on tons of characters that could be a gold mine for them if they are dont properly. But yes i know the reasons from wb rangeing from fear it wouldnt work out, to since they dont need comic films due to all the other films they produce in a given year and all that. It does suck alot for the fans of the dc characters.

That is exactly what I'm definitely looking forward! I'm so excited. :D

I would like to see that.

NO "THE BATMAN: HUSH". NO! NO. I absolutely HATE The Batman series.

Well if you look at that video compared to others like it you can see where it stood. Here is how the DCAU videos stood up against Marvel over the past decade: I got the data from a website called The Numbers:

Ttle.............................................US DVD Sales................Sales in numbers
Superman - Doomsday................$9,391,471.......................469,574
Batman: Gotham Knight...............$8,008,880.......................400,444
Ultimate Avengers 2.....................$7,769,322.......................388,466
Ultimate Avengers........................$6,670,973.......................333,549
Hulk vs.........................................$6,069,524.......................303,476
The Invincible Iron Man................$5,217,044.......................260,852
Justice League: New Frontier.......$5,202,259.......................260,113
Wonder Woman...........................$4,479,542.......................223,977
Doctor. Strange............................$3,876,039.......................193,802
The Next Avengers.......................$2,989,769.......................149,488

The sales in numbers are based on an average DVD price of $19.95. As you can see Wonder Woman comes in 8th out of the 10 I listed. I guess I could have added Hellboy to the list, but I didn't.

That's acurate but somewhat misleading since it doesn't account for how long the films have been on the shelves. WW came out much later than most of the films at the top, and from what I read last month the sales have stayed relatively strong for her dtv over the last few months. To get a better sense of where it really stands we'd need to see sales over the first 6 months of release for all the films.

that's is very true. nice catch.

Ya well hopefully this gl ff film does well and future ones too so others have a better shot in happening.

It's funny that Wonder Woman did the least in DC sales but is the best film out of all the DCU animated films so far.

Are those blu-ray included in those DVD sales with the ever increasing popularity and sales of blu-ray overall.

Seeing how much they made makes me what to know how much they cost.

ya i to would like to know how much each animated film has cost them.

That's really hard to determine. Different stores have different prices, and they lower those prices at different times than other stores during the shelf life of a DVD.

If they're dividing the total gross of the DTV's by an average of $19.95 to get a total for units sold, then the most recent titles are the most accurate. Most DVDs(at least where I live) are released for around $20 and fall to around $13 with-in 6-12 months. For films like Ultimate Avengers (which have been out for years and can be had at my local walmart for $5.00) the number of units sold is probably higher than what is listed in the chart.

Of course you have to take into account that I'm basing this on what I know and I live in Indiana where the cost of living is much lower than say New York City or Los Angeles. Now Im curious... is the $20 average for new DTVs consistent with the costs in other parts of the country?

UPDATE: ****. I just realized you were probably asking about the production cost of each film, weren't you? lol. Wow, I really need to stop posting under the influence, but as I said above, I live in Indiana and there really isn't much to do here :O

If you look at their website you will find that the weekly sales of thest videos drop off dramatically after the first two or 3 weeks of release. In the first two weeks "Wonder Woman" made most of its revenue, whereas "Superman/Doomsday" made more than twice that in the same time period. The data that I presented may not be realtime, but it is still good enough to give you an idea how popular these films were.

Recent "Wonder Woman" Direct-To-Video Animated Feature Enjoys Consistent Video Sales

July 09, 2009 by James Harvey
The recent direct-to-video Wonder Woman animated feature continues to be an admirable performer for Warner Home Video, selling over 235,000 units on DVD.
As of late-June 2009, Wonder Woman, the direct-to-video animated feature from the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line, has now sold an estimated 235,850 DVD copies since the title's release in March 2009. According to various home media retailing outlets and independent research, Wonder Woman has remained a consistent seller since its release, and will likely cross the 250,000 units sold mark by the end of July 2009. Please note the home video sales figure above does not take into account rental numbers, OnDemand numbers, hi-def sales, or legal download numbers.

Continuing to buck the standard home video trend of a strong debut followed by tepid sales, the direct-to-video Wonder Woman animated feature has managed to keep steady sales since March 2009. Special promotional events, including marketing tie-ins to the upcoming Green Lantern: First Flight and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies direct-to-video animated features releases, are expected to keep the title on track for the remainder of the year.

The Blu-ray sales for Wonder Woman have also remained stable, now selling over an estimated 23,000 Blu-ray copies since hitting shelves at the beginning of March 2009.

I get what you're saying dnno1, but the site only let's you see the first two weeks of sales data. Which is somewhat helpful data, but when you're considering a film that preforms consistently over time it becomes less relevant. I'm not saying WW will eventually pass Superman Doomsday, only that it would be higher on that list if the chart took into account the length of time they've been available. That makes the info somewhat misleading if you're trying to use it as a barometer for popularity.

For instance, the article above mentions that sales are expected to top 250,000 units for WW by the end of july, if the current sales for WW continue to be somewhat steady over the next few months it's a safe bet it will pass JL:the new frontier, and Ironman on that list.
