The idea of an 80s DC extended universe featuring Reeves, Keaton, and Carter has been living rent-free in my head. WW is easy; you're just taking the TV show and adding a movie at the end. With Superman you're mostly just tweaking and re-writing the movies that we already got. Batman's the hardest because you'd have to literally know the future and drag it into alignment with the others.

Even with Keaton as the #1 priority for the exercise, everything else is up for grabs, including the director. It's also such a significant period in Batman comics, where stories like Killing Joke and Dark Knight Returns finally convincing WB that Batman could work on the big screen. Hearing Michael Uslan talk about it, it's likely that the movies would be veering in that darker direction we got with the '89 film anyway, but it's wild to imagine the films kicking off ahead of those landmark tales rather than always playing catch-up.

Mxy's last gift is fulfilling the third condition of their game. The city of Kandor is freed, and all its citizens with it, who have established a colony on the moon. Among them are the people of Argo City, imprisoned by Brainiac. Kara tearfully reunites with her mother and father, who are both alive and well. The two young Kryptonians rejoice, no longer the last of their kind.

The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2016)
Directed by David Ayer
The film tells the story of Harley Quinn and The Joker as crazed partners-in-crime through flashbacks. A former prison psychiatrist, Quinzel had worked with the Joker during his earlier incarceration. Though she tries to pry into his mind to understand how he thinks, Joker gradually seduces Quinzel and gets her to fall madly in love with him. He later persuades her to release him, subjecting her to shock therapy in retaliation for her using it on him, and making her jump in acid at Ace Chemicals to prove her love for him, just as he had developed his psychotic persona and appearance through his own accident with falling into acid. The incident drives Quinzel, whom Joker dubs "Harley Quinn", just as insane as the Joker and gives her a similar disfigurement as him. The duo terrorize Gotham City as partners in crime and become, the "Criminal King and Queen" in the city. Harley and Joker carry out numerous crimes before Batman, wanting to avenge Robin, tracks down the couple in Joker's Lamborghini, causing them to crash and capturing Harley while Joker apparently dies.

Now imprisoned in an electrified cage at Belle Reve Penitentiary in present day, Harley is barely given any comforts or clothing, as she regularly endangers the prison guards. Amanda Waller recruits Harley and other incarcerated metahumans and criminals, including El Diablo and Slipknot into a task force for extremely dangerous situations after the U.S. Government reluctantly gives her permission. Under the command of Rick Flag and his bodyguard, Katana, the squad's members do not get along at first and are reluctant to go along with orders until Slipknot is executed by a bomb planted in his neck for trying to escape. Shortly after, Joker, who survived the crash, discovers Harley's predicament and blackmails a prison guard into revealing her location, in addition to forcing an A.R.G.U.S. scientist into disabling her bomb. The film ends with Joker breaking into Belle Reve with his henchmen and freeing Harley, who is revealed to have dreamed the Joker returning for her.

I agree that the films still would have been darker, even without the contemporary comics. That was Michael Uslan's original vision, back in the late 1970s.

That was the period of Denny O' Neal, the return of Two Face to the comics, The introduction of Ra's Al Ghul, Dick Grayson going off to college, Batman working solo alot of the time, The Joker returning to his roots.

In particular, Strange Apparitions was a big influence on the first Batman script by Tom Manischewitz.

At the very least, he wanted to go back to the 1939 tone for the new films. So that was the direction they were heading.

In terms of other directors, I know Joe Dante (Gremlins) and Ivan Reitman(Ghostbusters) , were both considered in the early to mid 80s .

I think there were some other ones as well.

Happy to See Kilmer recast in a few of these.

I really enjoyed Kilmer as Batman and he is in my opinion a very underappreciated Batman. Project History: After a couple of decades of development hell ,The Batman project finally gets of the ground in 1989 when Warner Brothers and the producers decides to go with hot up and coming director Joel Schumacer. Warner Brothers wants a darker version of the Batman mythos which appeals to the younger teen and twenty something audience who made films like Young Guns, St Elmos Fire and Lost Boys , box office hits. At the same time, the producers want the film to have the grounded, and adult, approach of films like Wall Street .

Schumacer agrees, and going along with the darker and younger theme, Schumacer decides to tell the story of a much younger , rookie, Batman in addition to his rogues gallery being made up of villains at the start of their careers.

To the outside world, Bruce Wayne is the epitomy of the young ,1980s yuppie. Hitting the night clubs, spending like a sailor , driving fast cars, and surrounded by models like Christy Brinkley and Bo Derek. By night, Batman is rookie, stalking the streets of a pre- Giuliani- like ,New York slash Gotham, trying to craft a code of honor ,against his rage and inexperience .

He imagines Joker as a 24 year old young , almost punk rock ,like Anarchist with little taste for order and a thirst for violence. In the wake of current events , He imagines Riddler as a Michael Milken, wiz kid type ,who knows holds the Gotham financial market in his hands. He see's the Oswald Cobblepot as a mirror of Bruce who . In the daylight spends his days with Gotham's high society, but by night is making his way up the underworld latter as the kingpin of organized crime ,known as The Penguin.

Taking a page from the glitz and glamour of night time soap operas like Dynasty and Dallas, Selina Kyle is reimagined as a glamorous, wealthy, Thomas Crown like figure ,who steals from her fellow millionaires by day, but uses the cash to help those she left behind in Gotham's slums. Harvey Dent, who in this version, is Bruce Wayne's " responsible" best friend from college, is fashioned into a JFK Jr like figure. Dashing, charming, and on the verge of running for higher office beyond the D.A.'s office.

Alfred , now no longer just the dutiful Butler to Bruce Wayne as he was in the 1960s show, is a former SAS agent and navel commander . James Gordon is a retired war hero wading his way through dirty politicians, police officers, and a younger breed of criminals known as freaks.

ADDITIONAL STORY NOTES / CHANGES

• The original opening sequence is included: Superman investigates the ruins of Krypton in his rocket, then crash lands back on Kent Farm where Ma Kent finds him.
• Lois still wins her Pulitzer Prize for “Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.”
• No Jason or Richard White in this version. Instead, Lois has a previous relationship with Sergeant John Corben—who works under her father, General Sam Lane.
• The film still has loose homages to the Donner / Reeve films (the Marlon Brando sequence is maintained, for example). The timeless aesthetic to the costuming & set dressing remains but dialed down to a lesser degree.
• Luthor steals the crystal technology from the Fortress of Solitude then, instead of a real estate scheme, offers this technology to the US Army in exchange for a full pardon.
• The crystal embeds itself into an experimental metal in a military lab, which will later explain Corben/Metallo’s ability to morph his metallic body into various weapons as in the comics.
• Mercy Graves replaces the character of Miss Kitty.
• Kal Penn’s Stanford is a disgraced Daily Planet writer who is hired by Luthor to falsify evidence that Krypton still exists, which leads to Superman’s 5 year absence.
• Metallo is first introduced to the public as America’s new hero, but quickly becomes unhinged and requires Superman to intervene and protect the city from his twisted brand of justice.
