Pilot History
Eight years after the first Spiderman telefilm , producers decide to produce one final mini-series , and to effectively end their Spiderman story.

With Columbia Pictures eager to make live action theatrical films with a teenage Peter Parker , and with the telefilm actors eager to move on from The Spiderman movies , the final mini-series is bitter sweet.

The plan is for Peter and Mary Jane to finally wed , For Harry Osborn's and Felicia Hardy's arcs to come to a close, and to introduce the Hobgoblin saga.

Spiderman -Ever After promises to be a TV movie event spanning four nights during May Sweeps of 2004.


Part One

After a year of dating , Peter considers proposing to Mary Jane , not wanting to waste another moment living in the past.

At the same time, Harry Osborn resurfaces to buy the Daily Bugle, fire Peter,
and to ruin any happiness Peter and Mary Jane may have.
All this, while Harry is unaware of his Girlfriend's pregnancy .

All the while a villain calling himself the Hobgoblin Emerges with his own murderous motivations.

Part Two


With The Hobgoblin a new threat on the scene , and the shocking return of The Green Goblin,
The two Goblins wage war with each other , and against Spiderman.

His Battles with the Goblins force Peter to relive the pain of Gwen's Murder,
and while MJ contemplates Peter's proposal , and wonders if she can truly be " Spiderman's Wife ".

Part Three


Peter are MJ at a crossroads while the Goblin War strikes fear, in the heart of New York City.
Felicia Hardy returns,
In the form of the criminal the Black Cat,
She offers Spiderman and out from getting married .

Meanwhile ,Harry struggles with his inner demons as Oscorp goes Bankrupt ,
And the Hobgoblin threatens to expose,
that Norman ,and Harry, were both The Green Goblin.



Part Four


Mary Jane accepts Peter's proposal , and the two of them plan a lavish wedding .
Harry must choose between The Green Goblin and his girlfriend Liz, and their future child .

Meanwhile The Hobgoblin plans a sneak attack to the Parker wedding ,
In order to take out Peter Parker , and Harry Osborn, once and for all.

Project History
As Walt Disney studios , still reeling from the passing of it's creature, struggles through the 1970s and 1980s , the success of The Superman and Star Wars films inspires them to become more heavily invested in action oriented entertainment aimed at boys .

While Tron faulters , they look to Marvel Comics Library of characters to adapt to the big screen.
With Marvel seemingly going nowhere in the feature film realm, they allow Disney exclusive access to their library of characters .

However, many at Disney balk at the idea of the studio producing Comic Book Films, and instead feel the focus should be on their own family oriented live action and Animation projects.

Nevertheless , the first Marvel film greenlit out of the gate is Captain America .

Superman director Richard Donner accepts the challenge of bringing Captain America to the big screen for the Summer of 1985.

Script
The film would not only feature Captain America, but would feature other Marvel characters such as The Wasp, The Fantastic Four , and Wolverine from the X Men.
The film's villain, would be Doctor Doom.

With the film would serve as a launching point for a cinematic universe , producers decide to introduce other the Marvel characters would also oppose Doom and would get their own films.

The story focuses on the Return Of Captain America after being in suspended animation at the end of World War 2.

Cap is brought back 40 years later after the Tyrant , Doom, holds The Fantastic Four and several other heroes hostage in Castle Doom.

The Government turns to Cap to lead an assault and rescue Mission in Latveria , with the aide of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent The Wasp and former S.H.I.E.L.D. operative , The Wolverine.

As it would turn out, Cap had saved Victor's family when he was a child,
And now , Captain America must confront the Tyrant, that Doom has become.

Project History
While Spiderman 3 receives mixed reviews, the film is still a huge hit .
A Year later, The MCU is launched with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.
By 2010, the success of the MCU causes Sony to take note.
As Spiderman 4 is stuck in development, Raimi is dissatisfied with the various screenplays.

When Pascal approaches Feige for his imput , on Spiderman 4, Feige proposes something radical,
Incorporate The Raimi-verse into The MCU .

While people like Avi Arad feel the merger isn't needed, Pascal see's the benefit of Feige having a more hands on approach to Spiderman 4.

Sam Raimi is also open for a fresh pair of eyes from Marvel Studios .
Ultimately, Sony execs agree to work with Marvel Studios.

By the same token , Marvel Studios is thrilled to have a popular Spiderman already in place as opposed to gambling with a new actor in the role.

When The Sony and Marvel Studios agreement is announced in 2010 , fandom , for the most part, is relieved that Sony will handle the creative reigns to Marvel for the next film.

Sony agrees to lease the Spiderman character to Marvel Studios on a picture by picture basis .

Web Of Spiderman , is set to be released in December of 2012 .

Story
While many of the Sony lead Spiderman 4 and The Amazing Spiderman , ideas are tossed out , a few key concepts remain.

The film would have a new female lead , The film would feature multiple Spiderman rogues, and the mystery around his parents disappearance ,would play a prominent role in the film's plot.

Black Widow would be the film's female lead working along side Nick Fury, and S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Chameleon would be the film's lead villain , with Vulture, Scorpion, Silver Sable, and Shocker as , his henchmen.

The film would hint that HYDRA still exists, with Chameleon as one of it's agents.

Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane would not appear in the film, and Peter would be a Professor at Empire State University .

The film would be a globe trotting adventure, in a break from the previous Sony era films

Project History
With Web Of Spiderman a huge hit at the Box Office , Sony and Marvel once again decide to team up for The Amazing Spiderman .
Sam Raimi once again returns for his fifth outing as director with James Vanderbilt, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely.
Kevin Feige is given more of the reigns as the films Producer
Tobey Maguire returns for a fifth time .



Script
Raimi and Feige agree that The Amazing Spiderman should be more of a grounded story based in New York as opposed to the globe hopping adventure of The Web Of Spiderman.
The story would feature the debuts of characters such as Mysterio , The Kingpin, Daredevil, and The Black Cat.
The film would serve as an introduction of the MCU versions of Daredevil and Kingpin , ahead of their Marvel produced series .
At the same time, Black Cat would finally make her debut after several false starts , and Mysterio would debut as the film's other villain .

When Spider-man is framed for the attempted murder of Wilson Fisk , the hero gets the assist of a sexy burglar on the wrong side of the law , and a vigilante with his own vendetta against Fisk .

With Spiderman wanted by the NYPD , the three heroes unite , to clear Spiderman's name.

But as they unravel the mystery behind Fisk's attempted murder, they find themselves in a world of illusions , and a trap, that is set for all three of them.

Project History
While ideas of a Multiverse sequel to Spider-man Far From Home, and ideas of the return of characters from previous iterations gain steam, ultimately , the notion of a multiverse film is stalled.

While Sony is enthusiastic about the idea , Feige feels that jumping into a multiverse saga so soon after the Infinity Saga , isn't the right move.

Instead, Feige wants to build to a Multiverse Spider-man film.
At the same time, Sony has a hard time persuading Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to return , without a significant payraise .

Consequently, Sony and Marvel, are resigned to doing a grounded , direct sequel to Far From Home, with Peter facing the ramifications of not only being framed for Mysterio's killing, but being revealed as Spiderman .

A multiverse film would have to be delayed into the mid 2020s , at the earliest .

And with the global pandemic bringing Hollywood to a halt , both studios decide to wait till restrictions are lifted , and to release the film in 2022 , to celebrate Spiderman's 60th anniversary.

Story
Kraven The Hunter would serve as the films antagonist , who hunts Peter, MJ, and Ned , who are fugitives after Peter is convicted of murdering Mysterio.

While Sony original nixes the idea of using Kraven in a MCU Spiderman film, the studio eventually relents , and the character is included in Spiderman Homefront.

Kraven in this version would be genetically enhanced , similar to his portrayal in The Spectacular Spiderman cartoon.

The character would be written as a non nonsense , lethal , foe , and relentless opponent who is willing to use Aunt May and Happy Hogan as bait in his hunt for Spiderman.

His wife Sasha would serve as his silent partner , in which Kraven has his own " Woman In The Chair" .

Matt Murdock would serve as Peter's lawyer, while Daredevil would serve as an ally to Spiderman as criminals come out of the wood work to target Peter.

Murdock would also work to track down Mysterio's remaining henchmen , while Ned would use his computer skills to try to track down the rest of Mysterio's gang.

While much of social media believes Spiderman is guilty, the wall crawler still has his allies.
Among them , is CEO Norman Osborn, who funds Parker's defense .

Norman's character would serve as a father figure, taking the place of Stark, though their would be slight hints to the darker side of the character .

Harry Osborn would also be introduced as an fan of Spider-man , setting the stage for a future friendship with Peter.

Jean DeWolfe would make her big screen debut, while Jameson would relentlessly work to turn public opinion against Peter Parker .

Casting
Keanu Reeves is one of the first actors announced to be cast as Kraven The Hunter , following the steps of Michael Keaton as Vulture and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.

Charlie Cox reprises his role as Daredevil and Matt Murdock for his first big screen appearance.

The role of Norman Osborn , goes to Giancarlo Espisito, who, by this point, had been rumored to play an number of Marvel roles.

Actress Toni Collette is cast as Jean DeWolfe , while actor Adain Bradley is cast as Harry Osborn.

Project History
As the legal battle over to the Spiderman films rights are finally resolved , Sony Pictures moves forward with the first Spiderman theatrical film.

Though directors like Sam Raimi are originally courted to helm the project, Sony Pictures wants a more acclaimed director and instead turn to American Beauty director Sam Mendes .

Screenplay

Sleepy Hollow scribe Andrew Kevin Walker and American Beauty scribe Alan Ball , are brought in, to Pen the film .

Producers, fearing another camp fest like Batman And Robin, want a more serious and grounded tone akin to Blade and X Men .

At the same time , they want some of the youth angst of a film like American Beauty and Almost Famous .

The film would deal with the guilt , burden, and loneliness of being Spiderman , with the outcast Peter Parker, now becoming even more of an Outcast as Spiderman.

Walker and Ball's Peter ,would an outsider , alienated from his classmates ,and from the rest of the world.

Spiderman , on the other hand ,would be a feared avenger, working through his issues through his Spiderman persona.

In this take, Spiderman would wear the Black Costume, minus the symbiote, only to adapt the more hopeful Blue and Red Suit ,in the film's final shot.

The film would still feature the classic Spider-man origin though Peter's guilt would be a heavy theme driving Peter's more destructive behavior and poor choices .

Though the original screenplay pits Spiderman against Doc Ock and The Green Goblin , and features Mary Jane as the love interest , the new screenplay makes Ock the sole villain with a pre- Goblin, Norman Osborn, as a supporting character .

Walker and Ball also swaps out Mary Jane Watson , in favor of Gwen Stacy.

Gwen , like her Ultimates counterpart, would also be an outsider , with Harry Osborn taking The Flash Thompson like role as Bully , in a break from the comics.

Ock , meanwhile , would be much more of a big brother and mentor figure to Peter ,
who breaks bad .

Both men are portrayed as opposite sides of the same coin , with Peter , in many ways, fighting his mirror reflection.

Casting
For this darker , more Indi- Drama take on Spiderman, Mendes casts talented character actors as opposed to the huge names .

He wants actors who he feels captures the essence of the characters in Walker and Ball's script as opposed to casting actors who resemble their comicbook counterparts.

Though Sony wants Leonardo DiCaprio or Ryan Phillipe , Mendes ultimately casts darkhouse actor Heath Ledger feeling he can play the awkward, moody, and conflicted version of a teen Peter Parker.


Gwen Stacy : Brittany Murphy
While Mendes's American Beauty actress , Mena Suvari is considered, Mendes wants to go with
an unconventional choice who was less of a beauty queen but more of a tough as nails daughter of a New York Cop.



Doctor Octopus : Philip Seymour Hoffman
For the role of Doc Ock, Mendes casts Hoffman , feeling Ledger and Hoffman's mutual talent makes for an interesting pairing of mentor and mentee.


Harry Osborn : Wes Bentley
Though considered for Peter, Mendes casts his American Beauty supporting actor in the role of the Jock and Bully Harry Osborn, who harbors his own darkside.



Norman Osborn : Hugo Weaving
Hot off The Matrix films, Hugo Weaving agrees to play the cold and arrogant Norman and the foil to Hoffman's Doc Ock.



May Parker : Frances McDormand
Mendes wants to go considerably younger in his version as opposed to the much older version in the comics .
His only choice is Academy Award Winner Frances McDormand , who brings a blue collar grounding to Peter's Aunt .



George Stacy : Ed Harris
Harris Agrees to play the role of George Stacy due to the characters multidimensional portrayal of a cop conflicted about Spiderman's war on crime, and a cop who feels the system's failure may justify Spiderman's utility.



Ben Parker : Gary Sinise
For the role Of Ben Parker, Mendes once again goes with an outside the box thesp in Gary Sinise.

His Ben doesn't quite relate to Peter, but wants to guide Peter in being a man who can be a positive force in a society that may reject him.

J. Jonah Jameson : William H. Macy

 

[Herofan]

Not sure Ball or Mendes would particularly prefer Gwen to Mary Jane, especially from the awkwardness of Gwen having been dead in the comics for nearly 30 years, but they could like, prefer having Gwen to also get to have George Stacy early on. Sinise as Uncle Ben would feel very different from classic Ben, different from most people's expectations, and yet similar and true enough and with real interesting, strong parallels and so relationship with Peter, could be, especially with also McDormand as May, really embraced as alternate yes also good, valid version/portrayal as Ultimate Ben was. Heath Ledger would probably seem a little too cool and confident, in part just from his size, but I can see him convincingly enough acting as really alienated. I kind of wish someone would deepfake him into the 2002 film.

There would be a whole lot of excitement for Hoffman and Weaving as those villains and probably also for just the real angsty tone, that while not real outright grim angsty and personal conflict and internal conflict was a big part of what made Spider-Man unique and liking that the filmmakers were embracing that.

Project History
As Feige and Co plot the finale of Avengers : Endgame, Marvel Studios and Disney want to be sure to hit the ground running with The Fantastic Four as one of the next MCU follow ups .

Feige in particular wants to establish crucial characters such as Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom immediately following the Infinity Saga , and establish them as the next generation of leaders who shape the future of The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While there is an eagerness to focus on lesser known characters , ultimately, Disney wants a return on it's Fox investment, and wants to keep the financial momentum of Endgame ,as opposed to taking a breather to focus on less known properties .

Though JJ Abrams is considered his recent history with both Star Trek and Star Wars franchises , give Feige pause , and makes him move away from the polarizing , director.

Ultimately, Feige enlists Mission Impossible director Christopher MacQuarrie to bring the First Family to The Big Screen.

Release Date of the film is set for 2022.

Screenplay
While the idea of making the film a period piece is an attractive one , ultimately, Feige feels the setting is just too problematic and limiting .

Feige wants to establish Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom as the next brillant minds following the legacy of Tony Stark .

The film is yet another origin story showing how Reed, Victor, and Ben all met , Victor seeming demise, then Reed eventually meeting Sue Storm and Johnny Storm for their mission pre Thanos's snap.

The team is bliped away, during the snap, in the midst of their mission , only to reemerge 5 years later .

They return to Earth with their new powers and become reality stars , bringing hope to an Earth still shaken and recovering from the tragic events of the past few years.

The team represents persavience and optomism to a planet without The Avengers , and a planet in need of guidance .

However , all is not well as Ben is depressed by his new reality and shuns the press and social media.

Johnny , on the other hand , embraces it , dating some of the world's most attractive models, actresses, and socialites.

Reed and Sue are not a couple yet , and Feige wants to build to their eventual pairing as opposed to having the characters jump into a romantic relationship in the first film.

Instead , the two start off somewhat as rivals , mirroring type of dynamics in roncom , where the two people who bicker and one up each other grow to respect and eventually fall for each other.

Reed's brillance makes him aloof and arrogant at times , but with a bit of a wink in a knod , that he's not as clueless as he may put on.

Sue , on the other hand , would be quick witted and sharp, poking fun at Reed with sly smile .

Johnny and Ben , of course , would clash with Johnny dishing it out and Ben giving it back, Manhattan style .

The villain of the piece would Namor, who , seeing the surface world as more vulnerable post Endgame beings to flex his imperial ambitions , and threaten to submerge Manhattan.

As the brash and cocky leader lets his Imperial ambitions get the better of him, the reality stars are now forced to become real superheroes.

In the end , the team, against unlikely odds, pushes back against Namor and his forces, and The Fantastic Four becomes some of Earth's protectors .

However, there's an emerging threat on the other side of the world, namely Dr. Doom, who watches the Team from the shadows .

For the role of Doctor Doom, Feige wants a big name , and charismatic presence to hold the mantle of Doctor Doom.
In a casting coup, Bale agrees to appear as The MCU's new big bad and surprisingly, agrees to appear in multiple pictures, though much of his work would be providing the voice behind the mask.


Human Torch / Johnny Storm : Glen Powell
McQuarrie, having directed him in Top Gun : Maverick , choses Glen Powell, feeling him the perfect actor to fill the role of Johnny Storm .



The Thing / Ben Grimm : David Harbour
Though Feige considers Harbour for other projects , ultimately, he decides to cast The Strager Things actor in the role of Ben Grimm , feeling that the actor can play gruff, loveable, funny, and vulnerable all at the same time.



Namor : Charles Melton

Ultimately, Feige wants a younger and lesser known actor to play the brash , young and arrogant leader.
Melton's ability to play arrogant , yet dynamic impresses Feige , and he serves as the perfect contrast to Wilson's Reed Richards.

Love him in general and he particularly looks classical and intellectual enough, also modern enough and could really plausibly play well being stretched both literally and figuratively and I can even see the others seeing aspects of themselves in him and vice versa.

Not a big fan of Sue being spitfire-y but that, and Robbie as her, could work as a version both in itself and along with Wilson.

Bale would definitely make the role of Dr. Doom his own including even making most fans forget 90% of the time that he had been Batman before.

I think Namor would be portrayed as being or becoming pretty sympathetic pretty early on.

McQuarrie has had interesting record, being one of the scripters of X-Men, voluntarily turning down a credit for it, and then otherwise largely avoiding spotlight and blockbuster credits for many years then having huge hits with MI and Top Gun 2 though also a bomb, though along with super-prolific/otherwise successful David Koepp, with The Mummy.

Project History
After the mixed response to Spiderman 3, several different ideas are tossed around for Spiderman 4, in addition to a revolving chair of potential villains .

With The director and The Spiderman producers unable to agree on a direction for the fourth film, Sam Raimi pitches the idea of a Spin off , Dirty Dozen style film focusing on Spider-man villains which haven't been used , yet may not be strong enough to be the sole villain in a Spiderman film.

While Raimi was wary of the multiple villains in Spiderman 3, a film in which the multiple villains are the centerpiece , with Spiderman being the Maguffin of the film is appealing to Raimi .

Amy Pascal and Avi Arad also like the idea of a villain team up, men on a mission, style film , which could serve to generate interest in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.

Screenwriters Alvin Sargent and James Vanderbilt are brought on to pen The Sinister Six , with a May ,2010 release date in mind , and to be followed by Spiderman 4, in 2012.

Fandom, already divided in the response to Spiderman 3, is largely skeptical about the idea of a Spin -Off film focusing on the villains , and concerns about another "overstuffed" Spiderman film grow .

Script

Sinister Six which would serve as a bridge between Part 3 and Part 4, by not only establishing several of Spiderman's rogues , and their backstories, but also establishing a new, puppet master, big bad , the ambitious and arrogant Jason Macdendale , and industrialist and businessman obsessed with destroying Spiderman.

The structure of the film would take inspiration from the Batman The Animated Series episode , Almost Got Em', as each villain is mysterious summoned , by the mysterious Macendale , who hires them to take down Spiderman once and for all, noting that Spiderman barely survived taking on two villains at once and without , help , would surely falter .

The villains agree to unite , though , their clashing egos , different agendas, and internal conflicts prove to be factors which help contribute to their undoing.

As the villains meet, they each reflect on their encounters with Spiderman , and how their individual lives are impacted by being captured by Spiderman.

The criminals would serve as unreliable narrators in their own stories , in placing all of the blame for their mistakes on Spiderman.

The script would also introduce Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat as an ambiguous figure , serving as a spoiler in the plans of The Sinister Six , with her own scores to settle with Jason Macendale.

Peter Parker would only make one appearance in the film as Felicia Hardy's tutor , while Spiderman would be the Maguffin of the film, appearing sparingly and in the right moments in the film, culminating in the battle royale in the film's finale as he takes on The Sinister Six , and against all odds , triumphs against them.

Unsure of the status of Peter and Mary Jane's relationship, Mary Jane is absent from the script and film with Raimi and producers assuming that Peter's relationship status would be dealt with in Spiderman 4.


Casting
In the tradition of the first three films, Raimi and The Producers go after well respected character actors for the roles of the villains as opposed to the huge names of the Burton and Schumacher Batman era.

Vulture : John Malkovich
Though Ben Kingsley is originally set to play The Vulture in Spiderman 3, Raimi decides to turn to
John Malkovich to play a much more ruthless and calculating version of The Team's leader.

Kraven The Hunter : Mads Mikkelsen
Though Liam Neeson is approached, the actor turns the role down . Keanu Reeves and Gerard Butler are also considered .

Amy Pascal suggests Casino Royale actor Mads Mikkelsen feeling he has the right authority, intelligence, and presence , to turn Kraven into the strategic point man of the team.

Mysterio : Benicio Del Toro
Though an outside the box choice , Raimi likes Benicio Del Toro's ability to bounce back and forth between being quirky and off beat , as in, The Usual Suspects, to being menacing .

Shocker : Billy Bob Thorton
Raimi gives his prior collaborator the role of Shocker, whose characterization is inspired by
The Spectacular Spiderman cartoon.

Thorton delivers the character with a southern drawl, and snarky lines, in some of the films funniest lines in contrast to some of the more serious members of the team.

Electro : Adrian Brody
In another outside the box casting choice, Adrian Brody portrays Electro as the outcast of the group and , in many ways, a mirror image of Maguire's awkward Peter Parker.

Scorpion : John C Reilly
Longtime character actor John C Reilly is Raimi's only choice to play the one time hero turned villain

Black Cat / Felicia Hardy : Anne Hathaway
Though actresses such as Emily Blunt and Rachel McAdams , Raimi casts Anne Hathaway,
who is set to reprise her role in Spiderman 4.

Jason Macendale : Toby Stephens
For the role of Jason Macendale , Raimi wants an actor who can be humorous and serious at the same time and casts Bond alum Tobey Stephens to play the smary Jason Macendale .

Spider-Man / Peter Parker : Tobey Maguire

Adrien Brody could be great as Electro and, though definitely on the older side, Billy Bob Thornton really good as Shocker and with portrayals like that they wouldn't seem like overly-similar/overly-similarly-powered characters.

John C. Reilly since about 2008 has unfortunately been associated almost only with comedy but he could work, with or without being against type, as Scorpion, his backstory of going from grizzled and a little sleazy but mostly decent to bitter to real villainous.

It would be a little weird to see Vulture and especially Kraven as in team, let alone team for another leader, from the start, good Vulture and Kraven would probably tend to clash with teammates (and Kraven probably resent not getting to hunt Vulture and Scorprion) unless they were real desperate and/or saw a whole bunch of strategic advantage from working in team. It particularly would be interesting to see a lot from the perspectives of mostly sympathetic but still bad Max and Felicia.

Budget:
75 million per episode. Damn right, this is my wishlist, and ideally this should look like a theaterical film and not like a SyFy tv show. Its not gonna happen but I can dream. Prestige TV is prestiging!

I am proposing this so there won't be a solo X-Men movie ever again. An anthology origin series would be fair to the X-Men. Most of the X-Men would get the spotlight for a single episode.

If it becomes successful, then a spin off series X-Men Origins: Villains is possible.

Slate One History
With George Lucas Bringing The Star Wars Saga to a close, the producer and director wants to take on an even bigger challenge : Bringing The Marvel Universe to the big screen.

Unlike Star Wars and Indiana Jones, The Marvel comics characters had been popular with children and teenagers since the 1960s , and had high viability and name recognition.

Intrigued by the idea of bringing these comic characters to the big screen, Steven Spielberg joins his friend in pitching the idea of several , live action Marvel films to the big screen, with the talent of the industries up and coming directors , in addition to established and well known filmmakers.

With Spielberg, Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, serving as producers, Marvel Comics sells over the rights to their library of characters to Amblin Entertainment in association with Lucasfilm .

The first slate of films is set to be released between 1984-1989 .

Project History
Nearly ten years after their debut in Marvel Comics, 20th Century Fox gains the rights to a big screen adaptation of The Uncanny X Men .

While not household names like Spiderman and The Incredible Hulk, The X Men present the studio with an opportunity to tell a relatively grounded and personal story involving riots, discrimination, and alienation, with elements of sci fi and even horror.

Unlike The Batman show a decade earlier , 20th Century Fox sees potential for a comic book film with a message, much like their successful Planet Of The Apes films.

While several younger and hotter directors like Steven Spielberg of Jaws, Richard Donner of The Omen, and Brian DePalma of Carrie, or all considered for the project , it's director Irving Kershner, who takes on the responsibility of helming the project and bringing it to the big screen.

The production would not be cheap to and save money , the project is filmed in Canada as opposed to New York and London, as originally planned.

The plan is to release the film in winter of 1977 .

Script
The screenplay would be written by author and writer Nicholas Meyer, of The Seven Percent Solution.

The story would be set in the near future and feature Bobby Drake as our entrance into the world of the X Men , who, in this iteration are more akin to heroes with secret identities .

By day , the members of the team pose as regular human beings , while at night they are protectors of mutants as The X Men , and Xavier offers shelter to Mutants in need or facing discrimination.

In this iteration however, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Angel are middle aged , having been X Men since their 20s , and constantly hiding their true abilities for the safety of their loved ones.

Scott Summers is a youth counselor at a High School , Jean Grey a psychiatrist , Hank McCoy is a brilliant physicist , and Warren Worthington is a wealthy playboy and Philanthropist.

Charles Xavier is a mutant advocate akin to Gandhi and MLK .

Our lead character, Bobby aka Iceman is portrayed as a young drifter , scared of his own power and ashamed of being a Mutant.

The villains of the peace would be Magneto , representing a more radical and militant wing of the Mutant movement more akin to The Black Panthers .

They are tired of living in the shadows and set to bring about a revolution which would put them on top.

Iceman finds himself caught between the two dynamic figures, Charles and Erik, while also in love with Erik's daughter The Scarlett Witch, setting up a young love on the run scenario.

Though there are newer characters in the X Men team , the screenplay keeps it's focus to the original five , and with a limited Budget bringing the newer characters such as Wolverine, Colossus , and Storm, would come with a hefty price tag.

Professor X : Roddy McDowall
For the role of Professor X , actors as varied as Yul Brynner, Peter Cushing, and John Gielgud are considered .
However, Kirshner turns to Hollywood veteran , Roddy McDowall to play the civil rights activist,
and mentor to the team .

Magneto : Christopher Plummer
For the role of Magneto , Laurence Olivier , Jack Palance , Max Von Sydow, and Christopher Lee are heavily considered , But Kirshner goes with Christopher Plummer , given his chemistry with McDowall , and his ability to play a much more nuanced, and complex , antagonist .

Cyclops : James Brolin
For the role of Cyclops, Kirshner wants a classic leading man type with presence, and the 6'4
Brolin is the perfect choice to play the teams stoic leader .

Jean Grey : Katharine Ross
Katharine Ross, made famous for her work in The Graduate agrees to take on the role of Jean Grey
while working on The Stepford Wives . Actresses like Jane Fonda and Faye Dunaway are also considered , but pass on the part.

Beast/ Hank McCoy : Elliott Gould
Character actor Elliot Gould is Kirshner's only choice for the intelligent and sardonic, Hank McCoy .
Kirshner feels Gould's imposing stature , in addition to his intellect make him the perfect choice
to play the Beast of the script.

Angel / Warren Worthington : Ryan O'Neal
For the role of Warren Worthington, Kirshner and the producers only have one name in mind,
Ryan O'Neal .
The actor agrees to play the charming playboy hiding his secret mutation by day .

Iceman / Bobby Drake : Richard Gere
For the role of Iceman, several young and up coming actors are considered , with the actor Richard Gere gaining the part of the mysterious drifter and romantic lead of the film .

Scarlett Witch / Wanda Maximoff : Olivia Hussey
Having already made a splash in Romeo and Juliet and In Black Christmas, Olivia Hussey takes on the part of Iceman's love interest and Magneto's daughter .

Quicksilver / Pietro Maximoff : Michael Beck
Michael Beck is cast as the moody and mysterious Quicksilver

Moira MacTaggert : Lee Remick
For the role of Moira MacTaggart , The Omen actress Lee Remick is cast as Xavier's partner and one time flame , who has a history with the professor and with his former friend Erik.

Well-done Iceman and probably Angel and Storm would be pretty expensive, probably depicting Cyclops, Jean, probably Wolverine would be relatively affordable.

Katherine Ross sure deserved popular stardom after The Graduate and The Stepford Wives, she would be great as Jean and and I can see really good parallels between her and Oliva Hussey as Wanda and Hussey really on the line between and increasingly conflicted between the teams and ideologies.

Plummer as Magneto then would make really strong contrast to and progression from him being Captain von Trapp about 10 years ago.

It would be a little hard to distinguish Cyclops, Beast, Angel and Iceman starting in team, they initially did have pretty similar personalities and characterizations, aside from something like making Iceman particularly younger than the others, and/or making Beast particularly moody even early on, but I do like the idea of making Cyclops particularly focused on, moodier and a little more internally conflicted (and some attraction to both Jean and Wanda could fit with that), and Angel, from particularly having to repress, probably initially the second most moody and angsty until Beast surpasses them (and then Angel's angstiness could grow much more in later sequels).
