DC gets an overhaul

Totally all we can do is wait and see how things come about with this change and if things will be happening more for characters who been in hell of development and if others get a shot at tv shows like the upcoming human target and the other one mass something or what not. Though we likely wont know more to that big meeting in early 2010.

Anyone else think that a late 2010/early 2011 start for Batman 3 is reasonable? I think it is. Here's why:

- Nolan is working on Inception and it's $200 million budget up until November. He's likely to go into post-production into early 2010.
- He has to get together with his brother Jonathan and David Goyer to hammer out ideas for Batman 3. They will be going through a few drafts most likely.
- A set budget ($200 million), locations for the movie (likely to be some of the same locations as Batman Begins and Dark Knight) as well as casting begins. It will lead to months of speculation on who will be cast alongside Bale, Oldman, Caine and Freeman.

I would think that by time Inception is released, Nolan is already hard at work on the script and that pre-production has started. He'll be back, I am sure that he will be back. I don't see any reason why he won't be back.

Plus, Batman 3 will probably be all kinds of win.

doesnt seem to unreasonable evil, or if its not 2010 it will likely pick up some time in 2011. We do know after he does a film he likes to take a little break to cool down and recharge himself. so i would probably give him like 2-3 months after his current film is finished for him to just relax, then after then get started up on batman 3 if that will be his next film.

Supposedly there's supposed to be massive tidal waves when it actually happens, and that the aliens are going to land on Earth the day after it all.

So there's going to have to be another survival plan.

"Strong female character" takes on a new meaning with Joss Whedon.

That doesn't tell me anything about Whedon's take on the character or mythology. So he researched it a bit...so did the guys who sold that WW spec script, which btw, was pretty subpar.

So what specifically are you basing the idea that Whedon gets WW on?

Buffy. If he was going to follow a similar path to what Lauren Montgomery's animated WW movie did, Buffy and Diane realize what their place in life is, and how different it sets them off from everyone else and how they cope with that. Different but similar journeys.

That's how I see it.

Superman will likely fly again. The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow and the Justice League are also being developed for features, though lesser-known characters like Jonah Hex, Lobo and the Losers will bow first. A revamped slate will be announced early next year.

I'm shocked DC are celebrating their 75th year. They HATE anniversaries these days

Here's what I think her job is. She sits down with her consultants and they throw properties at her, Legion, The Question, Fables etc and explain where they would fit in genre and demographics. There will be estimates as to what the property could make and they will take the profit percentage off the top and determine the budget. They will shop it around producers and see if one sticks. Sad thing is, she'll get millions from doing this when its common sense.

yea its still all a wait and see game with how this DCE thing is going to play out, and if it will mean finally ww/flash gets films, and if superman will be happening(well it has to be something we all know if they dont want to loose film rights). So it looks like we probably wont hear a dam thing to jan/feb for supes at this point.

My hope is that Sandman will get back to DC Ent. from the hands of Jon Peters. The script by Elliot & Rossio, revised by Avary may use a new polish (by Gaiman himself possibly) but it was good. It could make a great fantasy movie.
I wonder if they'd be able to use it even if it was developed under Peters.

I'm hoping that someone at WB will explore the possibility of Vertigo as a source for HBO series finally. Or when they meet with directors, someone will take an interest in showing some of the properties that WB already has the rights to that may be a match. For example, WB meets with Scorsese, why not show him Scalped and see if he has an interest? A comedy director comes in, why not show him something like Metal Men?

I personally think that when Nolan signed on to direct Inception, he signed a two-picture deal. The second movie is theoretically a third Batman movie, or a new project.

And isn't that what happened when Martin Campbell signed on to do Green Lantern? Warners agreed to distribute Edge of Darkness in exchange for Campbell doing GL.

well blue we do know from when the news came out it said producers who have long held onto the film rights for certain characters like silver with ww are now cut off and its back in dc's hands. So i would say its a good bet peter's in the same boat as silver.

well yea they are not releasing any news on what is going on with projects not in production already(hex/losers), or soon to be in production(gl's case). To they have that big 75th anniversay dc meeting come jan/feb. Then we are likely to hear what is going to happen hopefully for superman(i really hope so), flash(will be nice), and others like WW/shazam/etc.....(deadman/lobo) and so on. They are not just going to come out right now and say things. When this whole restructuring in happening and will need to see what is going on first, get everyone all settled into their new positions and then get cracking on the business end of things.

EXCLUSIVE: 'We Don't Have Any Current Plans For Superman,' Says DC Entertainment President

On Friday, I spoke with the new head of DC Entertainment, Diane Nelson, who offered up some thoughts on how the recent changes in and around Warner Brothers will affect Superman, Batman and the rest of DC's stable of characters in comics, movies and various other media.

However, one particular portion of the interview seemed to merit its own post. While discussing some of the specific projects on the horizon for DC ("Ryan Reynolds can be anything he wants to be," said Nelson of the "Green Lantern" star's ability to play both Hal Jordan and the Marvel character Deadpool in upcoming films), the conversation eventually turned to one of the company's most iconic characters: Superman.

"We actually don't have any current plans for Superman," said Nelson when asked if the new environment (and the recent legal decision regarding the character) made a "Superman" movie more or less likely in the near future.

We recently ranked Superman as one of the most important properties for WB to prioritize in their new, movie-friendly arrangement regarding DC, so it was interesting to hear that the company currently has no plans for the Man of Steel.

Nelson then reiterated her stance on the lack of action on the Superman front, while acknowledging the character's importance in the DC universe.

"We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman," she said.

With rumored "Superman" director James McTeigue recently offering his own take on what he'd do with the Man of Steel if given the chance, Nelson's comments certainly call into question how far along any plans might be—and whether we'll believe a man can fly again any time soon.
