DCU Dark

While I appreciate a lot of the Moore influence Snyder has kept around, isn't not being beholden to 30 year old continuity the entire point of the reboot?

I wasn't much for Arcane being Abby's father instead of her uncle at first but it just makes her (and her brother who I'm sure we'll see more of) connection to the rot that much stronger.

I agree though that after so much buildup, the whole black queen bit was wrapped up way, way too fast. I think there could and should have been more fighting between her and Swamp Thing directly and with some different dialogue I wouldn't have too much of a problem with how it ultimately is resolved.

In terms of paquettes artwork, I love it. The problem is that we rarely get a whole issue from him and sometimes the transition mid comic messes up the pacing, or the other artists is sometimes subpar, like on a few issues back when the king of the rot or whatever kicked up a dust storm, it just did not look good the transition between the artists was awkward and the story suffered for it.

In the begining of the issue of JL Dark and last issue the fact that everybody was allways annoyed at Constantine, even having accepted to go there was kind of annoying, one thing was when they discovered they became bound to the house, but just being angry for no reason before that? I know he's a con, but still he helped save the world, most of the time the team just seemed like *****es

Though Constantine can be a massive jerk at best sometimes so I can see why the team may not get on with him all the time

Constantine has always been a *****e thats his thing. He often manipulates and lies to people.

The rest of them are stupid for trusting him.

I think I'm not going to buy Swamp Thing anymore.

I just don't seem to care about it anymore.

Sorry to hear you're not enjoying it anymore CConn

I think I might give it a few more issues before dropping it

Same, more or less.

While it is a reboot, I feel that alot of the history within the Arcane family is demented enough that it doesn't need to be changed. Swamp Thing's been out of the loop so long anyway. Why bother changing it? My biggest issue with Swamp Thing, and Animal Man, is the pacing. 11 issues in, and we're FINALLY at the eve of Rotworld. This should have happened much sooner. Arcane should have been brought back much earlier. The last 4 months of Animal Man have been nothing but filler, with the cat character saying "We need to find Alec Holland!". With the Queen of the Rot thing being such a waste of time, it's easy to see how much filler exists in these arcs. I'm pretty sure I can trade wait these books and not worry about anything. There's a difference between epic writing and drawn out writing. I feel both books are heading towards the latter.

For some reason, Animal Man still holds my interest.

I think it might just be the grotesque horror edge it has.

That's the best description ever :)

I'm totally going to imagine Socks talking in the voice of Patrick Stewart from now on

Its kind of sad the degree to which both Animal Man and Swamp Thing have stalled, as they were both initially so strong. I didn't even mind that it took 7 issues for Swamp Thing to show up in Swamp Thing. In fact thats what made the past few issues so unsatisfying, how quickly the whole Black Queen thing was resolved after so much build up.

Yep I wish they had done more with that plotline

The way it was wrapped up so quickly made it feel kind of pointless

I think the pace has been a little slow with not a huge amount of pay off. I certainly think both books could of been scripted tighter.

I still enjoy both titles alot of though.

I'm sticking with both titles for now as well I'm still enjoying them overall

Animal Man keeps me guessing and invested in its cast almost every month. Swamp Thing has had the opposite effect lately; if it keeps on like this for Rotworld, I'll stick to Animal and hope I don't miss too much.

Swamp Thing has been pretty weird for me. There are times when I'm bored senseless and think I was better off dropping it, but then it comes along and kicks it to 11 and makes me want to stay. Animal Man is something I'm still liking, but yeah, it is kind of dragging a little. I dropped all the other Dark books. I'm thinking of jumping back onto JLD, though, since everyone is raving about the new team.

Animal Man 11 at least had both Buddy and Socks taking action for once and was delightfully weird at times. Lets hope that can continue.

On a side note, some of the facial expressions in AM 11 are unintentionally hilarious.

I will admit I am biased towards Swamp Thing as he is one of my favorite characters but the last issue wasn't bad, and the missteps of the two issues before that aren't quite enough to ruin how much I enjoyed the first 7 issues upon their release.

Seriously though, why was Swamp Thing pushed back a week this month?

Animal Man and Swamp Thing were both improved this week as there was fianlly some action taking place. Seems like fianally the pace is picking up now.

Animal Man actually felt like it had too quick and easy a resolution considering the awesome build up. Swamp Thing has definitely picked it's speed back up though.

...

Demon Knights was fab this week

Fantasy adventure goodness and I loves the new look for Morgan Le Fay

I also dug that this issue confirmed Sir Ystin is transgender as his essential nature was shown to be male
