Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 News and Discussion - Part 1

Here's what Feige said about Deadpool last year.

DEADLINE: Deadpool was just such a lightning bolt, an R-rated movie Marvel Comics character that shows there is room for racy superheroes. You are at family-friendly Disney. Any thought to getting into the R-rated superhero game?

FEIGE: No, we’ve not had any specific conversations about that. And that is only part of the takeaway from Deadpool. The thing that Deadpool shows is, when you present something unique to an audience, they will respond to it. When you present something as popular as a superhero character, in a different and unique and crazy way as they did in Deadpool, it demands attention and audiences went to it. They pulled it off. Tim Miller did a tremendous job. The other secret, and why it’s still a secret, I don’t know, but they just took what Deadpool is in the comics. He breaks the fourth wall. He talks into the camera. He doesn’t give a s*** about any of the other heroes. He doesn’t take anything seriously. All of that is what made Deadpool so popular in the comics. Tim and his writers and Ryan Reynolds were able to get that and even magnify that up on the big screen. We’ve always said if there’s any “secret” it’s respect the source material, understand the source material and then, any adaptation you make from the source material should be done only to enhance whatever the original pure spirit of the source material was. Deadpool hit on all cylinders with that.

Fox sold.

If Disney was so anti-R everything then Touchstone pictures would have never existed.

Making another brand is exactly what you do in this situation and what quite a few on here said would be happening. Now we had official word that's what they are considering. There is no reason to believe otherwise at this point.

The Sale is yet to be federally approved. Until then, Deadpool 2 is a Fox release.

Where is Touchstone now?

I guess we have to just wait and see.

Deadpool is an extremely lucrative franchise from what I can tell. Disney won't tamper with that.

Okay, on the film itself...last time, we saw Deadpool take shots at not just Origins, but a lot of tropes in Hollywood, particularly comic book films, like the superhero jump. What would you want to see the sequel take pot shots at, if at all? Personally, between Dawn of Justice and Civil War, I'd like to see Deadpool take a shot at superheroes fighting each other.

When you hear Feige speak, it's clear just how much he gets this stuff. Marvel isn't accidentally successful. His role has not been overstated.

Yeah exactly. It's not succesful just because it's R rated. It did something unique and took what worked best from the source material.

MCU wouldn't be this big without the man. Whenever he is done he needs some major acknowledgement form the film world.

That or how many of them seem to have mummy and daddy issues.

Iger's comments were way too vague to be taken seriously.besides it will be up to feige as we know everything connected to x-men will be under marvel studios.and that means reboot.yeah like feige will produce sequels to fox films lol

if it really takes till 2021 for fox to become totaly folded into disney it's possable X-force and deadpool 3 are made before reboot.

I mean I’m not surprised in the least

pure scum

they should reshoot just like scott did for spacey in all the money

also, this is a good backdoor excuse for iger to take control down the line and make it pg-13

That's an excuse? Especially given that Miller isn't even the face of the franchise, his actions warrant a sudden change of the franchise's rating? That's a stretch that Reed Richards couldn't even make.

Just take TJ out of the movie. He won't be missed.

What does one have to do with the other?

disney obv wont even want to be involved with something like miller, but it could be one of those "proactive" things that happen, where if reynolds/leitch/fox don't get ahead of this it'll look damaging, since the spotlight will be placed on deadpool and there could be backlash on why a family-friendly company like disney would be incorporating a raunchy franchise like that into the MCU proper, which of course kids/families love

it could be an overcompensation on their part but i didn't 100% trust iger to begin with when he says they want to keep deadpool r-rated, especially before the deal is approved, right now they're in don't rock the boat mode, something like this puts negative attention they don't want

I know right?
What the hell? Some of y'all...
i'm just saying with disney's track record, their mainline proper, lucasfilm, marvel, their live-action adaptations, disney animation, and pixar, it's pg-13 or less. i find it dubious that they'll make deadpool of all characters the exception. maybe they'll let reynolds finish his trilogy then reboot/incorporate proper, i'm just very skeptical when it comes to it

either way miller has got to go, he was in a lot of marketing/promo for the first one, and outside of spacey and louis ck, i can't picture other current working actors who were getting regular work right now either with something like this over their head when it hit. i think his career is done

You're digging way too deep in trying to figure out what Disney's going to do with a franchise that won't be in their possession until well over a year from now, if that. Again, Miller's actions don't correlate to whether Disney keeps the Deadpool character itself R-rated or knock it down to PG-13. They're not even connected.

As far as everyone's concerned, Deadpool's still under Fox's umbrella, not Marvel Studios and certainly not Disney.

Yeah, I didn't care much for TJ's Weasel. I especially didn't like his humor he brought to the character.
