It would be great if DP said “Bucky?” when he first sees Cable.

Technically Will Smith did it first in I, Robot. Wolverine did a variation of it X3 as well, so it wasn't invented by Marvel.

I just have a real distaste for the main X films. I think whilst a couple have been very good... they've wasted far too much potential and characters.

Huh? What does your distaste for the X-Men films have to do with the fact that Leo Zelinsky brought up? Whether they fit neatly or not, these films are all in the same universe... and some unconfirmed cameos will put an end to the speculation.

If they are in the same universe then that brings up huge continuity problems. I imagine the Deadpool film makers are playing fast and loose with continuity just for shots and giggles. If these cameos turn out to be true and are played straight... then this film must be set in the 80s or whatever, which we all know makes zero sense.
