Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 News and Discussion - Part 2

Even though I'm bummed Donald Glover's Deadpool animated series is no longer in the works, at least I have this to look forward to.

This pi$$es me off. But it may have been terrible.

'creative differences...'

It wasn't about them being bad, it was about them being chick flicks.

But Fox had better chick flicks than 27 Dresses. I loved the Devil Wears Prada so it just irked me they mentioned it along with 27 Dresses, I've seen it, it was pretty bad.

That still makes it funnier. Yes, Prada is good and 27 Dresses is bad, but that kind of inconsistency just makes it seem more random and amusing.

I think that might have been another jab at the test screenings controversy. "The movie could be great or bad!"

Well Wolverine did that pose first as far as Superhero movies go.
Yes in X3.
Xzibit did it first

That's not from a comic book film.

Yeah, exactly. 27 Dresses is probably the most paint-by-number romantic comedy I’ve ever seen. It’s like it was created in a machine that spews out generic chick flicks.

Didn't realise it was only 7 weeks away to be honest. Run cold on movies for the past few years.

CBM just posted an article saying DP2 is tracking to make less then the first?

I assume this could go up closer to date with added marketing.

No industry tracking numbers have been put out. They're using Box Office Pro's prediction for the film. Box Office Pro is predicting an unrealistic drop for the film, imo.

And FWIW even if the movie was tracking at $100M OW, that would still be higher than where the first one was tracking at the same point. I believe the first was tracking at $65M all the way until release week and was bumped to $85M on release day.

Does Conrad (Manabyte) get that the appeal of the first one is how others bounce off the main star of the show?

Why do you ask this? lol

I'm a couple weeks behind when he made the post, but he's really against the movie's plot being so basic and making way more of a case than necessary that the romance angle was the core ingredient.

I agree with you. I mean I have read the supposed plot to DP2 and I am really not understanding what is wrong with it. It seems like a lot more happens in it than in the first one and from what I have read, it doesn't seem basic to me.

Now the first one, in my opinion, had a basic plot. There is no way to say it doesn't. It's your standard origin story. And I could never tell if the plot was basic to make fun of origin super hero movies or if it was basic because they couldn't think of anything else. What I liked about the first one was the chemistry between Wade and all the other characters. Not Wade and Vanessa together lol And don't get me wrong, I liked Vanessa as a character in the film and I feel like Morena and Ryan have really good chemistry but I am not going to watch Deadpool 2 so I can see Vanessa and Wade romance part 2 lol I feel like a lot of sequels fall into that trap because the first film always has some sort of romance angle to it, and then in the sequel the writers never ever know what to do with the other half of the relationship so they try to force the romance angle in again and to me that just doesn't work.

That's probably an unpopular opinion but ehh.

I get the sense its typical fanboy-ism over some of the decisions made.

He doesn't seem to like what they did with [BLACKOUT]juggernaut[/BLACKOUT]

It really isn't that unrealistic. And trust me, the tracking was going up and up all the way through release. Pretty certain they were over $100 before Thur.

But betting on the same kind of lightning in a bottle effect is dangerous. I thought GOTG was a sure thing for a billion last year. And nope.

It was never ever tracking above $100M. The weekend it opened, Deadline said Fox was looking between $60-65M and rival studios had it at $80M. It wasn't until it actually opened ie it's midnight numbers came in that folks thought it had potential to hit $100M. And even then box office analysts had no idea if the film would be extremely front loaded. It's why the movie was such a huge box office success story because no one thought it was going to explode the way it did.

And I'm not betting on Deadpool 2 making a billion world wide. And betting on any film to make a billion world wide is crazy. It's not as easy as it seems. However I'm betting Deadpool 2 will make over $300M domestic which is way more realistic than it making $240M which is a $120M drop from the first. That's not happening. In fact Deadpool 2 is more likely to surpass the first than it is to make $240M domestically. *I don't expect it to pass the first FYI just saying that if I was a betting person, I'd bet on that before I bet on a $240M domestic total.

It makes sense. The first one was released in February and it had no competition. It was also released on Valentine's Day weekend, which is a prime weekend for going to the movies. Deadpool 2 is also being released in the middle of Infinity War and Solo, so it won't be the only one on the block. Not to mention the fact that outside of Marvel Studios, big franchise sequels rarely gross more than the previous film these days, opening weekend or total gross. The Last Jedi made less than The Force Awakens, Justice League made less than Batman v. Superman, Fate of the Furious made less than Furious 7, etc.
